JP 8-bit Link amiibo
« on: September 25, 2017, 12:49:01 pm »
Just posted a separate entry for the Japanese import of the 8-bit Link amiibo.  Even though it has the same barcode and item number, the packaging for it is different than The Legend of Zelda 30th Series amiibo.  I noticed once I posted it, the entry was deleted - curious as to why?

Maybe it was a duplicate of this item? https://vgcollect.com/item/111121

The packaging itself doesn't call itself an 8-bit Link, so that might've been the issue.

Edit: Ah, I see what you're saying. Hm, can you post the barcode you have on your item?

It is the exact same item, even the barcodes and item numbers match - except the packaging is much different.  The entry that already existed has The Legend of Zelda 30th Series packaging, whereas the entry I created did not.  I even denoted it in the item description.

No biggie if an admin would rather the two items remain as one in the database, I just saw them as two separate entries in my mind.

Edit:  I had created the VGC entry to read:  amiibo: Link (The Legend of Zelda) [JP]

Ah, I see the packaging difference with the red square. I didn't find examples of the Japanese version without the red, actually. Is it a case of the image being wrong in the original record?

They both exist.

30th Anniversary version has P/N PUA-NVL-C-AKAF-JPN-C0 on the back.
Consoles shown are Wii U and 3DS

Red square version has P/N PUA-NVL-C-AKAF-JPN-C1 on the back
Console shown are Switch, Wii U and 3DS

There is also a difference to the content to the right of the Zelda image on the back between both.

We should use this longer number on the back for the item number, and put the figure's item number NVL-C-AKAF-(JPN) into description field.

I for sure have a the Japanese version without the red square on it. My version looks like the VGCOLLECT packaging picture. So it appears that a new version was released unless the red Nintendo square was never put in to production.

Ko1ru - do you have the version with a red square or seen it available other than just a picture on Amazon? Just curious.

EDIT: Tripredacus posted before me and has it all figured out.

Speaking of this, it was some omen I think. Before the Switch was announced, we had seen stock photos of Amiibo having the red square but actual figures didn't have it. So interesting that Nintendo would phase this packaging design in using Stock photos before the Switch actually came out.

Huh, very interesting. And great, 'cause this means we'll possibly double up on a bunch of amiibo records now because they'll have additional runs with the new packaging variant, haha.

My bad. Sorry  ;)

If both versions exists, please make a new entry for that amiibo.

I ordered the exact amiibo from the Amazon link I provided further up.  Upon receiving it, I noticed it was different than others I had seen (30th Series).  It does indeed have the red square at the base of the packaging, but the biggest difference is that on the top left of the front of the packaging it doesn't include the red triangle that says "The Legend of Zelda 30th".  I don't have the other amiibo to compare it to physically, so I can't attest to the differences between the backs, but it looks like tripredacus has done a fair amount of research!  Thanks to that, the mystery is solved.   ;)

I will go ahead and create the entry again, this time with a bit more extensive info.  Thanks, all who helped.  :)
