My FFXII journey so far
« on: October 10, 2017, 12:25:23 pm »
Thought some of you might be interested to see my progress with collecting all known FFXII PS2 releases worldwide.  I have 4 currently in transit; one German (Platinum Hits), one Japanese (International Zodiac Job System Ultimate Hits), one Singapore/HK (normal), and one French (Platinum Hits).  I can pretty much confirm that the most difficult ones to get will be the Korean releases.  I'm making good progress here.  Once I finish out Europe I'm moving on to AUS/NZ all-the-while trying to get the last Singapore/HK release and Korean releases at any time.  My funds are becoming limited so I am contemplating selling some of my other stuff to continue to fund this treasure hunt.  :D

The numbers in the {} denote how many I have.

NTSC-J:
SLPM-66320: Original release (J) {1}
SLPM-55022: Ultimate Hits (J) {1}

That's some dedication. I think you're the first person I've ever seem that liked this game a lot. Most people either didn't like it (me) or thought it was okay.

You are right that most people didn't like it and or didn't give it a chance with an open mind.  For me I actually very much enjoyed it, so much so I've got it in my top 3 Final Fantasy list behind 4 and then 5.  :)  I believe most of the people that didn't like it also didn't like FFVIII either, which is a shame because that one is also awesome.  I suppose I'm the opposite of most Final Fantasy fans because other than 4 being my favorite I like the ones most people didn't.  Except XIII, that one blows.

12 is my favorite but I also agree that 13 is bad, lol. Though I've had a friend who disliked it play it again after a long time, and he came to appreciate it despite its major flaws.
Currently playing:
Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition (PS4), Final Fantasy XIV Online (PC/PS4), Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp (Android)

Perhaps one day I'll play through those 3 XIII games...  At least I already have them.

Damn, that's some dedication to FFXII. Very nice.

I tried to play it but it was too slow for me. It's a good game; just not the good game for me. Now, FFXIII on the other hand, I adore those games. Especially Lightning Returns.

Wow, neat collection.
I actually had a lot of fun with FFXII, I played the hell out of it for a while. The settings and music are great, and the battle system really works well once you get the hang of it and buy more Gambits. I love the way you see enemies on the field map and can choose to sneak around them, definitely not as frustrating as random battles. I even got into the monster-hunting aspect, which I usually don’t do. My only real complaints are a somewhat convoluted story and...Penelo, who’s one of the most useless and uninteresting characters in any RPG. (Seriously, her whole backstory is “I’m Vaan’s childhood friend”). Vaan’s not exactly the deepest character either, but he adequately serves the purpose the game director gave him of basically being the conduit through which the player experiences the game.

Thanks!  I'm trying my hardest!

And on that note I picked up a great tip on some Korean releases.  Stay tuned!

So I've snagged a few more European releases.  I've added my running total at the top in the first post.  :D  Also found a brand new FF12 memory card by HORI that I couldn't pass up for $15.
