Do you buy game guides or did you ever buy one in the past for a certain game? And why that game?

Anyone collect game magazines, or guide books? Show your collection.

Magazines? Hell no. Not anymore. I used to enjoy Game Player, Game Fan and Play. These days, I think game magazines are garbage.

I quit collecting magazines the last time I had to move them.  Never again.  The ads are fun though.

I like the old Super Mario All-Stars Nintendo Power related guides, especially the Game Boy & the Super Gameboy one.  Most recently I got the Super Mario Galaxy 2 guide because I didn't feel like finding all the damn green stars on my own & like not having to look at the computer guides.  The only guide I have that I really needed was Metroid Prime, because I never would have found some of that stuff, and even with the guide I still didn't get %100 because I didn't scan everything  :P

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they're all pretty much overrated these days.  I collect & play a lot of games, but it's really gotten out of hand, just look on youtube or other large public forums and you'll see so many people that are just too emotionally invested in these to the point of taking it personally if you don't like a certain game or system.  Just google "video game death threats", jeez, lets keep things in perspective here!

That's not a symptom of game collectors so much as it is a symptom of internet regulars. Go to any forum, video games or not, and you'll get the same kind of passion and hate. Comic books and metal forum that I frequent are certainly that way with some users.
Star Wars fans are like that too.  I'm in a lot of predominantly positive groups too, like this one.  Collectors are more likely to fall into other vices.

BTW Game Boy Color is my real pick for overrated consoles, besides the improved screen and palette options/backward compatibility for your old games, it felt like more of a color upgrade than a new system.  Compared to the jump to GBA that is.  The library is a minefield of crap, but of course there are plenty of good ones to find due to sheer volume.  To be fair, a lot of the licensed games weren't meant for my generation, and must admit I sort of got into Matchbox Caterpillar Construction Zone  :o

I normally listen to electronic music, but for some reason I'm listening to Megadeth's Peace Sells, But Who's Buying at the moment.

I dislike Treasure's more gimmicky games like Mischief Makers, Stretch Panic, Silhouette Mirage & Ikaruga.  I think Ikaruga is the only one of those that's highly regarded, but the whole black & white thing just made the game look so bland & the color switching mechanic just got in the way of the shooting.  I want to destroy things in a shooter without one arm tied behind my back.  Silhouette Mirage took that even further, you could only shoot red guys while facing left?  Fun!

I personally wouldn't spend over $200 on any video game in existence. Loose, complete, with a cherry and whipped cream on top, etc. But I'm not a true collector. I get the felling that nobody here is really this hardcore, but maybe I'm wrong.  :-X
The most I ever spent was $189.

Another perk about dealing with a site like eBay rather than a transaction done over email, private messages, or forum posts is the liability issue.  With eBay, there are checks in place to help protect both the buyer and the seller (though most may argue that it leans heavily in favor of the seller).

I have to disagree, eBay leans heavily in favor of the buyer these days.  OP, if you do sell this there, you have to require signature confirmation, or you won't be protected for an item that sells for more than $250.  You also have to buy insurance for it, because you won't be reimbursed if it gets lost in the mail, again if it's over $250.

My wife played video games when we were dating in college, Atari and Genesis, but she mostly stopped after the baby came.  She plays if my son wants her to though, Wii sports or Mr. Driller usually.  Dealing with spouses and children would be a totally different thread, how much/what style of violence a child is exposed to and how much gaming in general your child takes part in are things you can have differences of opinion about.

A "show your age" thread.  The Secret of Nimh, Clash of the Titans, Alice in Wonderland all come to mind.

It's about that time, it's 2 generations old.  I sold Haunting Ground for like $70 last year & now it's gone up quite a bit.  In 2012 I sold Wild Guns at auction for $30 with barely any competition, I don't even like to look at what the prices are on some of the ones I got rid of.  2012 is when it all started climbing, but also right when I got laid off from my job.   ::)

It's honestly hard to say...

Blaster Master
Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden II

Were tough. But I was tougher.

Never did beat TMNT for the nes.

Did anyone beat TMNT?

I was like that about 5 years ago.  I decided to sell systems & games I didn't ever play so that I could get further into my Gameboy collection.  I don't miss them because I didn't play them or had them for 20 years & was completely finished with them.  I regret selling some games simply because of the huge skyrocket that happened with SNES and NES games during/after 2012, but that's more about the money I could have gotten than missing the games. I put the money I did get into buying more of what I truly wanted.  However, if I didn't collect all those games in the first place, I never would have figured out what I really enjoy, so it did have a purpose.  Letting go of things can be a positive experience, do you own the games or do the games own you?   ???
