Classic Video Games / Re: SONY PSP, or Nintendo DS or Both For You?

Love the PSP. Never played DS. If I ever run into DS in the wild, sure I'll pick it up. I heard there some decent games for it.

Exiled Kingdoms. New RPG with old school graphics. One of best RPG's I played.

Trading TG-16 with a bunch of games for Sega Genesis with a bunch of games. Back then seemed a great deal. Today it's a ripoff. I was punked.

Clean everything up. Take off all the unnecessary labels or stickers. Do retrobright on any yellowing plastic, like Snes for example. If console/cartridge too dirty, open it up, air in can, isopropyl alc, resolder any loose points, add solder where is not enough.

Now I never replace or restore the actual game labels or any damaged art. That I keep for historic value. Also, I rarely replace the cases or boxes if I have any. I dont need those to look new.

Old but very clean is fine by me.

$400 of Japanese released original GameBoy games for $3 each on ebay, used, loose game only. Would be more fun than Switch or PS5 imo.

Thread devolving into argument over what constitutes an RPG in 3...2...1...

All matter of opinion. To me the Grand Theft Auto series are RPG's. Free roam, do main quests, do side quests, collect items, kill bosses, grind for money. Yep, GTA's are RPG's and no one will ever convince me otherwise. You don't need anime characters for a game to be RPG. Its a genre where it's all opinion based.

Ridiculously impressive lists. Bravo!

My question to you is, what is the hardest RPG you beat? Or what us the hardest RPG of all time?

They won't do it because Discogs is too big and that's where all music and movie collectors go. Competing with Discogs is not something VG will do imho.

VG Should just stay gaming only. Thats what they do best. I went to all the top video game databases, this one is the busiest and most active. This will only grow. Then maybe in the future u will see other mediums.

When a game just freezes or stalls in the middle of play. Happens a lot on retro consoles. The worst is when it happens in games you can't save lol

The fun factor of finding stuff in the wild (garage sales, thrift stores, the dumpster) for mere pennies is a lot more fun than spending a lot of money for rare stuff. You appreciate it more when you find rare stuff for pennies. Yeah a lot of times the games might not be the best ones, but who wants to shell out retail or ebay prices for games?

nostalgia. more fun games than the new games. competition with other retro gamers to outdo each other. to be different from new-age gamers/present day gamers. fun collecting retro games like some collect vinyl or comic books. in some cases obsession and collectardism. lack of women and sex, retro games are next best thing. to join a hipster movement that says it is cool to do retro games and not the new games. to join a yuppie movement that collects or plays downloadable retro games only! to one day become a great video game reviewer and showcase their collection, take that! AVGN and Metal Jesus!

...but most of us like retro games simply because modern games suck.

There will always be Pros and they will always figure out how to fix anything, and if they can't, they will just repro it and put 5000 games on it :)

General / Re: How much do you like game instruction manuals?

I don't care for the game boxes or cardboard, but it's always nice to have at least a case, slipcase, jewel case, etc. and a manual to complete my games. Loose games are fine too, but love that literature with it for sure.

Hello! New to the site! Was looking for a video game version of Discogs. Stumbled upon this site and Mobygames. Chose this site because I like the design and look of it. From NYC. Collect pretty much anything from NES to PS2. Nothing too old nothing too new. Don't like selling or buying. Looking to collect, trade, and have fun posting up my video game collection. Nice to be a part this community!
