Video Game Database Discussion / Re: "Grey" or "Gray"? - Style Discussion
« on: November 19, 2019, 10:45:45 pm »
I vote for a new official spelling of græy, or GRÆY.  Problem solved!

Alternatively, the search function should be programmed to return both spellings as common variants IMO.

The only bootlegs I have were accidental; a couple of Game Boy Advance carts.  I got a genuine replacement for one of them, but not the other, at least not yet.

Otherwise, yes, I am very confident that the rest of my collection contains no bootlegs or repros (not counting Majesco reprints of course).

Definitely put your happiness first.  If it isn't making you happy, I'm glad you are deciding to make a change.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but on the home page 'remember me' does nothing for me.  Anytime I visit I have to log in.  Meanwhile anytime I visit the forums I'm already logged in.  Same on a few devices/browsers.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, so sorry if this has already been covered.

General / Re: Your Video Game Bucket List
« on: April 17, 2019, 09:02:52 am »
My bucket list goals aren't so much collection focused, but more gaming focused.  I'm very satisfied with my collection as is.

1. Earn one point in Desert Bus COMPLETED
2. Beat my arcade cabinet Vs. Super Mario Bros.  COMPLETED
3. Beat Pitfall
4. Beat Night Trap
5. Earn two points in Desert Bus (might try in November)
6. Simply have time and energy to play.  I'm behind on the following series: Zelda, Kirby, Layton, Mario & Luigi, Resident Evil, Sonic, plus many, many more.

Even if they weren't user definable, it would be great if they added site wide a 'Console' or 'System' tab and a 'Digital' tab.  Others might like to have a 'Hardware' tab, something to keep the collection from being a singular dump bin.

That's along the lines of the one thing I'd like to have added in- you know when you click on your avatar, and you get your pie chart & a collection breakdown? I want to be able to click on those categories & see what's in them. I've got a hefty number of systems, so it's a pain to use the sidebar to go through each one to see, for example, what accessories are added in. Especially since I don't keep all in the same place or sorted by console. It would make checking to see if everything I want added has been added a lot easier.

It's not a huge thing, but it'd be nice.

I very much agree.  I've kept my consoles, hardware, and digital games off of my collection here for the sake simplicity.

I remember reading the "To Do List" thread about a customizable tab for users to create their own list, whether for duplicates, reserved or pending to sell, or for a now playing list, whatever you wish to add into that list is up to the user. I thought that would be quite a cool addition for keeping track of certain items.

This is my #1 most waited for feature.  Even if it was just 2-3 additional tabs that we could name, or the ability to rename the existing tabs.  I don't use the 'Sell list' and barely use the 'Wishlist'.

I'm glad to see so many high ratings!  I was afraid that this would be a decisive topic.  There are a few things that I wish were better, but nothing critical.  As a community driven site that I'm currently using for free, I don't really feel it's my place to pass judgment.

In short, thanks to all of the community members that participate in the forums.  And a bigger thank you to the staff that keeps all of this tied together.

It's safe to skip the ads  ;)

I usually let the ads play.  I mostly watch YouTubers that I want to support and letting the ads run benefits them.

If I'm watching a video from someone I haven't heard of yet, I often will skip the ad.  If the ad is longer than the content, I will usually skip it.

It's been a while since I posted here, so I wanted to share a recent video I made.

Click the picture to see the video, thanks!

If you enjoyed the video, please help spread it around.  Thanks for your support!

I'd love to know the methods that you use to manage and organize your Game Boy games, or other small cartridges.  Happy Collecting, thanks!

Off Topic / Re: Have you ever considered working 7 days a week?

I do that now.  Salaried employee.  This weekend was the first weekend I've had off in I can't remember and LITERALLY the the fifth and sixth day I've had off this year.

I use media shelves that are made for CDs, DVDs, and Blurays meaning they are more shallow than the shelves of your typical bookcase. Atlantic makes cheaper, albeit lower quality media shelves. Prepac is more expensive, but the quality is definitely noticeable. Ikea also sells good shelves for video games.

Agree wholeheartedly.  Fully adjustable shelves preferably.

I found a bunch of Wii games at Big Lots once

Big Lots is the place to find a lot of surprises, my mom picked up 4 volumes of vary rare rock music compilations with mostly off the wall bands almost never heard on the radio still to this day, and are just as good as the more common and familiar rock bands out there. those rock compilations called "The Finest Of Hard Rock vol 1-4" 8 CD's of master peices that the radio never bothered to play until a couple of years ago. each volume contains 2 CD's with 15 songs on each CD and 30 songs on one volume each of the 4 volumes only cost her $10 USD new

Items in my collection that came from Big Lots:

Bunco! The Interactive DVD Game with Real 3D Dice (DVD)
Deal or No Deal - The Interactive DVD Game Show (DVD)
Fact or Crap: Beat da Bomb (DVD)
Sudoku (DVD)
Who Wants to be a Millionaire (DVD)
Would you Rather? (DVD)
Power Gig: Rise of the SixString - Band Kit

I grabbed one of the DJ Hero's for my brother-in-law (I already had it).  For sure, you just never know what you'll find there.

I didn't actually pick any up, but in the early 2000's I found a handful of sealed copies of Dreamcast games in a Deal$ dollar store.  They were all the same sports title, probably one of the NBA 2k games.  It was just so unusual to find sealed video games at a dollar store.

A few years later Dollar Tree bought the company they changed the format for the Deal$ stores.  Instead of everything's a $1, everything in the store was less than $10 (or maybe $5?  Not sure).  Anyway, they had some games there again and I bought a couple of GBA and Xbox games new for $5 each.
