Once again, think most of these refer back to the original point at the start, where I believe this is where the approvers could align better and have some consistency.

I will briefly mention that this is why I've directed you to post to the public forum in the dedicated topic for rejected edits instead of there being a private conversation between member and one staff. Posting publicly benefits everyone through transparency and as a place for common understanding as to why certain actions were done or not done to be established.

Yes - although the original post here is mainly about the DLC flyers being rejected which has now been expanded.
The other items were just formatting Q&As, which mainly took place before the rejected edits (except the common name one I guess) :P.

As such the "need to explain the other includes besides game and flyer" is also from me. I believe it was for this as you say:
https://vgcollect.com/item/256155

Quote
includes:
• End of Eternity 4K/HD Edition
• Art Collection <--- what is this?
• Original Soundtrack CD <--- what is this?
• Battle Track Collection CD <--- what is this?
• DLC flyer for original PS4 theme and character avatar set

Since there is no place to show pictures of these items, or links to them from the entry, we need to be clear as to these other items in the description. From the above:
- if Art Collection is a book, then the text should be Art Collection book or End of Eternity Art Collection book.
- use of text "Original Soundtrack CD" makes me think this text is lifted from somewhere or it is a partial title. Is it supposed to be End of Eternity Original Soundtrack CD?
- This battle Track CD, is it an audio CD also? Is the game name missing?

I believe this is where the approvers could align better and have some consistency. I have asked & discussed these descriptions by using one example (as the base) with dhaabi before the edits of the other listings. What was mentioned was that "if a component like a book has the game name also on it, I tend to shorten it while just using the actual book name, so Visual Book would be fine. I suppose lengthened would be okay too if it really seems like a part of the item name. If that same book were to have its own entry, though, definitely use the full name like in these examples" - which also makes sense to me and is reasonable to keep both options available.

And yes, if we go back to the above example, Art Collection / Original Soundtrack CD etc are all the actual exact names of the items without the game name. Being an entry about the game itself, repeating the game name on every single item seems to be overkilling it in my view (unless the component title is referring to a totally different thing [i.e. another game] then yes - that should be specific) as it also keeps the description field look simple & tidy to read. I also followed the same type of logic that has been mentioned in another thread keeping redundant/unnecessary terms out of it (i.e. "Switch Game" mentioned in the description list for it being a Switch category = terms redundant). However, as mentioned above, it makes complete sense to have the full name of a component if it is being entered as an individual entry in the database.

Remember that it may be easy for you to know what the things are that you list if you own the item or have it in hand. For everyone else, we need to be able to look at the info provided and be able to discern what exactly they are without having to do any additional research. Especially if we don't have the item either.
And yes, I am aware of that (even more so after a few edit rejects) and this is something that I have also discussed with dhaabi before whether the actual item names are preferred vs a general name for the items. In the end, I concluded and noticed that sometimes it is best not to use the 'exact names' of the components because it's not easy to tell what the item is exactly, and in cases where I see that I just used a general standard name for the item (i.e. artbook). The Art Collection could have been a little more descriptive I guess...to mention it being a 'book' since it could also be like 'art cards' etc. However,  the soundtrack CDs I would think it's self-explanatory as it is...

Also want to mention that not all approvers are rejecting the edits where people didn't put the media types such as "CD" for soundtracks at the end in those description names.
So, I believe people would sometimes get it 'accepted' and/or 'rejected' - where some may wonder why it got accepted and/or rejected without posting here and just left it where it was instead of re-entering the whole field for re-submission. One of the rejected edits I received was not having the word "CD" after 'soundtrack' in the updated description.

There were also other cases where I updated the game title to the English common name (which is what I saw in one of the old game listings being updated by one of the approvers) - where the initial game title edits also got rejected until I re-submitted them after clarification to confirm that it should be updated.

Once again, think most of these refer back to the original point at the start, where I believe this is where the approvers could align better and have some consistency.

Just want to mention that people might have also interpreted/read the question and/or choices differently.

Would be good if there was a Choice 3, which is a hybrid of Choices 1 & 2.

For example:
I agree that the community-voted budget is both a minimum and a guide. I also understand that some including myself may choose to exceed that budget, but I should not expect for all participants to do so.

It's people's 'choice' if they want to exceed that budget. However, am not sure about the word "excessively" in the 2 choices.

Quote
Traditionally, and with good reason, the budget for any Secret Santa event is encouraged to be adhered to, as it ensures every participant is both receiving and giving items of near equal value which prevents participants from feeling like their gift to give was worth more than the gift they received

The above was my understanding, it's a minimum and a guide. People can exceed that budget if they choose to but not to the extent where we need to use the word "excessively" exceeding = no hard feelings from anyone.

In my view, there is a difference between exceeding the budget 'within a reasonable range' vs exceeding the budget 'excessively'. Hope it makes sense ::)

So if a game has a DLC flyer, "DLC flyer" is good enough, or "DLC flyer with unlock code" or "DLC flyer item number x" are other examples. If there are multiple different flyers for DLC, then the text would only be able to be part of the name if the item has no item number. Such as "horse armor DLC flyer" and "sword DLC flyer"

All good with the above options mentioned for the DLC flyers and straightforward as well (with some good "options" that can be used to differentiate the different flyers).

However, the rejected comments I received were referring to specific DLC name/s and with cases where there was only one flyer involved (2 examples below where both had the 'dlc flyer' submitted as one of the edits in the description field and both got rejected due to the 'dlc flyer' not being acceptable (where both have now been updated with more description):

https://vgcollect.com/item/256155
https://vgcollect.com/item/146097

The rejected comments for the two above were categorized under Incorrect Formatting and the more detailed comments relate to DLC name/s.

Quote
As for rejects, in your notification log, the text you attempted to use should be shown under "New value"
https://vgcollect.com/notifications

Is this not true or is it instead not showing all of it? Not concerned about it not showing the formatting such as returns, extra lines, etc.

It only shows part of the edited texts submitted (i.e. texts allowed for one line and then it cuts off the rest) - screenshot of the example mentioned above under "New value":

Other than the DLC name comment, the follow-on comment "need to explain the other includes besides game and flyer" was also a bit unclear since the edited description had the actual game name, artbook name, soundtracks listed, and 'DLC flyer' in it - where the 'DLC flyer' was the only more 'generic' item in that description.

So, in such scenarios, unless the approvers send a PM to the editor with the texts submitted, the editor will need to re-enter the whole text again for them to re-submit (which would discourage re-submissions if the edited fields are 'lengthy').

Posting this message here as suggested by dhaabi - as there are also other approvers for edits.

A few of the updated descriptions that I submitted for TW releases containing DLC flyers have been rejected as it was suggested in the rejected comments to list them out individually & be specific with the names vs just "DLC flyers".

The names for DLC flyers are a bit difficult because those flyers are usually in Chinese without any English on them so if I put the names I will need to translate them myself and hard to find them on PSN store online as well (some may not even be available anymore) / hard to check past PSN transaction history for the actual DLC names since it doesn't show all the items in pack other than the title which sometimes doesn't mean anything either and sometimes can't even tell which game it is for (due to the limited functions on PSN online page). In most cases, you won't be able to find it by googling either unless you search by the Chinese name of it. Also don't want to exclude the 'DLC flyers' from the list either since those are contained in the actual package.

Right now (for the most recent edits - considering the rejected comments) I have just put a short description to differentiate the flyers. I would rather do that (though more generic) than provide a wrong translation of the DLC names. If I have the exact names of each DLC on hand I will include it in another paragraph like how it was suggested via another thread "DLC flyer has a code printed that unlocks" etc.

Also, if a rejected edit is lengthy, it would be great if the approvers could send a PM of the rejected edit text to the editors, so people don't have to re-enter the whole thing again (with minor adjustments) just to re-submit. That saves time for the editors from re-typing it all and encourages people to re-submit with the adjusted info.

The DLC one above is one of the examples where the whole description text was updated to the correct format but got rejected because of "DLC flyers" where the whole description will stay in the original incorrect format unless I re-enter and re-submit the whole description field again. For some, people will then just leave it 'as is' rather than re-entering & re-submitting.

Dragon Quest Monsters 3: Mazoku no Oiji to Elf no Tabi (SE-E3403)
- cool with that.

Quote
I suppose people can choose whether they want an entry for a shipping box that contains all those parts or if they want separate entries for all the parts but not being any entry for the edition at all.
- can we have both?  ???

Quote
packaged in cardboard box
"e-STORE" and barcode labels affixed to box

includes:
• Dragon Quest Monsters 3: Mazoku no Oiji to Elf no Tabi - Masters-ban
• "cushion blanket"
• Dragon Quest Monsters 3: Monster Synthesis Book
• DLC flyer
• purple sticker

DLC flyer has codes printed that unlock
• DLC name 1
• DLC name 2

Square Enix e-STORE exclusive
Sold online as "Super Masters Edition"

The above is certainly useful as a format reference for these types of entries.

regarding the language options should not be present here
- where can we enter such info instead? sometimes it's mentioned at the back of the game case but not always.

Hi All,

Posting on the forum for further discussion - as suggested by Dhaabi.

A recent listing has been brought to the attention that the e-store exclusive editions often have their barcodes/item numbers stuck/printed on their cardboard shipping boxes.
Often in the shipping box itself, the limited/collector's edition will have its unique limited edition boxes containing all the goodies and/or the game itself (which may be inside/outside the limited edition box).

I believe what has been uploaded into the database so far are only images of the limited edition boxes and not the cardboard shipping boxes with the barcode/item number as the "front &/ back" images.
There are probably also more like these out there (not just e-store exclusives).

Some examples including but not limited to:
- Secret of Mana Collector's Edition: https://vgcollect.com/item/141973
- Star Ocean: The Second Story R Collector's Edition: https://vgcollect.com/item/259194
- Final Fantasy Ultimate Collector's Edition: https://vgcollect.com/item/102022

However, all the ones mentioned above have their limited edition boxes containing all the items in addition to the shipping boxes.

To be honest, didn't pay attention to these e-STORE shipping boxes until the recent Dragon Quest listing mentioned below.

The question here is whether we should use the 'shipping boxes' with the barcode/item number printed on them as the "front &/ back" images for the database instead of the limited edition boxes?

E.g. Star Ocean: The Second Story R - change the current images to the coded shipping box instead? Which is currently the suggestion.
However, that would replace the limited edition box images that have been uploaded instead.

From current front image for Star Ocean

To shipping box with the barcode & item number for Star Ocean

Note: There is another scenario for these shipping boxes recently (which raised the topic here), where there is no limited edition box containing the items but just a cardboard shipping box (with barcode/item number) on it and it's strange to list all the contents from this edition as individual items in the database.

E.g. Dragon Question Monsters 3 Super Masters Edition https://vgcollect.com/item/259187
The shipping box with the barcode/item number has been accepted as the image here. Unlike the other e-STORE editions, this edition doesn't have a limited edition box containing all the items other than the shipping box with the barcode/item number itself.

In addition to all of the above, would be great if we could also discuss about the 'nature/purpose' of the 3rd image field (cart/disk/item) for the limited editions.
I have not been understanding this field correctly for the limited editions which was also why I don't usually load one in general - where I was referring to the whole limited edition 'items' as the "item" itself rather than just the 'game' cart/disk itself alone (as per standard edition listings). Can see this field is also often left 'blank' for the limited editions by people - for whatever reason. Would be good to know what others think regarding this field for the limited editions and its use?

Late post - think am the last one that opened & to upload the pic.

Special thanks to my SS (Telly). Am also stoked with what I have received 8).

200% surpassed expectations. Full platformers from my list :D.

- Hollow Knight (sealed) (Switch) [NA]
- Astalon: Tears of the Earth (sealed) (Switch) [NA]
- Mega Man X Legacy Collection + Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 (PS4) [NA]
- Bonus goodies: Pikachu trading card + Hello Kitty plushie
Last, but not least, a 'local' Christmas card :D

And yes, I usually have my parcels consolidated in US & have it all shipped to me together with a more economical option (faster & cheaper).
The only downside is that I will 'physically' receive the items later than others but other than that it's a win-win situation in my view :).

Thanks once again.

Hope you all had a great Christmas and have a lovely New Year.

PS: My birthday is on Dec 21st by the way (noticed a few of us are all relatively close with the dates so thought I would mention it as well :P).
