Classic Video Games / Re: Why do many retro gamers hate on the Xbox?

Games for Xbox worth owning:
Halo
Halo 2
...
...
...

I'm exaggerating, but only a little. The Xbox had almost no unique library to speak of outside of Halo, Microsoft really needs to get on their knees and pray to Bungie every day for the existence of their brand. I don't think anyone really hates it, but it affords so much fewer options for collecting than the PS2 or Gamecube.

There's some fantastic exclusive games on original XBox not named Halo. Here's a list off the top of my head.

-Arx Fatalis
-Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
-Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes
-Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (worth owning the system for this game alone, forget Halo)
-Fable
-Far Cry: Instinct
-Forza Motorsport
-Jade Empire (such an underrated and unique action-RPG)
-Oddworld: Munch's Odyssey
-Outrun II
-MechAssault 1 & 2
-Shenmue II
-Panzer Dragoon: Orta
-Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2
-Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse
-Yager

Yager is incredible. It reminds of a more badass Snoopy vs The Red Baron. Stubbs is also amazing. Voodoo Vince (which was recently ported for the Xbox One, complete with Achievements) is game you could add to this list.

I like collecting for the OG Xbox because the games are affordable and it's a highly achievable collection to complete. I agree with the OP, it's an undervalued console and I also don't get the hate.

It's not really an Xtreme sports game, but Sunset Overdrive is what would happen if SSX had a baby with Ratchet and Clank. It is a platforming shooter that plays like a extreme sports game.

The more that I look at this mess, the more I realize that none of these visions of loveliness look like anyone from the entire game. There is no humpbacked sword wielder. There is no Fabio-esque archer. There is no sluttastic sorceress. Is that guy with the wand supposed to be...Toma? I hope that the other female isn't supposed to be Odessa. That face that she's giving is nothing fitting for a leader of a revolution.

The one with a cape looks like Dan Akroyd, and the girl on the bottom right has chronic b***** face lol

The only good thing I can say about this box art is that it accurately represents the game:

...what? :o

If you hold this box art up to a mirror, the world will end:

Haha, the first thing I did was search to see if anyone has "Irritating Stick"  on VGCollect

Having labels that say greatest hits and are ugly are one thing!  Having an entire case that is another color is worse imo.  The bright red PS3 greatest hits cases make me want to stain everything around me with my own matching blood (of course I'm kidding).  Seriously though, what goes through their head that says, "Hey, this is a great idea!  This will really make fans happy".  It's almost like they are trolling us.  I can handle game cartridges, like DOOM on SNES being a different color, but if I'm paying for a case, it better GD match my others ones lol.  This might be a topic for another thread, but I even get bothered that some of my PS2 cases are slightly blue and others are black.

Sorry for another post on an older thread, but I couldn't help myself, I just love this topic so much.

Are we allowed to have a tie?  I love rpgs so for me, the PS1 and SNES are the kings of the castle in that regard.  Prior to my collection being stolen, I had many great titles for both.  My favorite rpg of all time is Xenogears, so I think I have to give the nod to the PS1.  It's alot more fun to collect for as well.  I enjoy the SNES, but hunting down the games you want that are CIB is a total pain, and with the PS1 double cases and instruction booklets, I feel like I am getting more and that it is a better investment.  So PS1 for me.

Growlanser Generations, which was the last ever working designs release in NA.  Once I get that I'm going to work my way backwards to the more expensive stuff, like Lunar and other titles.

sure - had I kept up with its progress better & done more reading & research on it - I wouldn't have had the pleasant surprise of finding out that Hyperdevotion Noire has a double-sided insert (2 different cover arts to choose from:)  ;D

Indeed - I find myself liking the non-default art work quite a bit more!

*BUT*

do y'all know what *Really* 'Grinds My Gears'?

The fact that "professional" :-\ game artists, devs, publishers, etc

are so fucking stupid unprofessional

that they don't seem to realize how simple, beneficial, practical, and more use-able these (admittedly nice, little extras) would be if...

...

The god-damned

game's

*TITLE*    >:( >:( >:(

You mean there's no title on the spine? That's a deal-breaker for me as far as using the alternate artwork goes. I never have understood that either. :(

This is actually why I have recently become obsessed with completing a Working Designs collection.  I am starting on PS2, and only need Growlanser to complete that collection and then start with PS1.  It is the detail and extras with the cover and instruction booklet that make the difference when collecting. imo.

I went ahead and bought it on the PS4, but definitely ordered Elysian Shadows on the DC.

SNES:  imo, Shadowrun

PS1:  Xenogears, Xenogears, Xenogears, with BoF IV a close 2nd.

PS2:  Star Ocean: Til the End of Time
edit: FF XII is up there as well

Last Gen:  I know I will get flack for this because people hate the ending ( I don't), but ME series

Current Gen:  I would say DA: Inquisition

« on: March 09, 2015, 04:25:50 pm »
PS1:

Occasionally replaying Valkyrie Profile!

PS2:

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legends

Currently trying to clear out my PS3 backlog, so on that console I am playing:

1.  L.A. Noire
2.  Tales of Graces F
3.  Final Fantasy XIII trilogy.

PS4:

Assassin's Creed Unity (disappointed so far)

Hey everyone, I joined a few days ago, and finally got around to updating my collection.  I still have a few more to add and a few things in the mail that  I am anticipating arriving this week.  I have a few questions though.

1.   how do i link my psn trophy profile and collection to my posts.

2.  How do I update my avatar.  I am still getting a feel for the site.

Thanks

Hi Richie! Welcome to the forum! :D

If possible, I might change the title of this thread to "Wanted - Valkyria Profile manual." It's more likely to catch people's interest that way!

Thanks, Done!

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone and finding another median to boost my collection / share the wealth.
