I don't know if anyone knows about this game, so I figured I'd give you all a heads up. Years ago, a game was being developed for the DS by indie developer Jason Rohrer. Majesco was supposed to publish it, but things sometimes happen. So now, there's a Kickstarter for the game.
What's weird about this one is that the game has already been approved by Nintendo. It's ready. He's just trying to make sure that there's enough interest in the game to warrant the minimum printing requirements from Nintendo. So there's an indie DS game with the Nintendo Seal of Approval and ESRB rated on Kickstarter, basically.
Add to this that Kickstarter seems to be fueled on rewards, and there's going to be 1000 limited edition release copies of this game, then the standard ones. I don't back games very often (Tim Schafer/Double Fine was my only one till today), but as a DS collector, I figure that this might become one of those rare gems for the system in 20 years. Also, the game is a simultaneous interactive board game about a diamond trade, so it sounds pretty fun.
The listing is here, if anyone is interested: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1443658586/diamond-trust-of-london

I thought this was spam when I first clicked it
-
Reading the topic title I thought this was a spam topic >_<
I'll have to look into that when I get back from work, but I don't think it's something I'll be backing. I'm getting less willing to back stuff on Kickstarter for some reason.
-
So, what happens if I back it and they don't meet their minimum requirements?
-
HaHaHa...I also thought it Spam from the title XD
-
While I would like an answer to my previous question...I went ahead and backed it. I'll take a 1 of 1000 limited print.
-

Nothing.
If the game doesn't reach enough backers, they simply don't charge you. If they do get enough backers then you'll be charged once the kickstarter ends.
-
Sweet, I assumed as much but wanted to make sure!
Thanks for the reassurance!
-
I never even thought about this being a spam title, haha. I added a (game related, not spam) to it, see if that helps.
And I did the 1 Limited Edition, 1 Standard Edition version...that way I get one of each, and the music seems fun, so Ronalopolis and I can each be playing it with our own copies.

That just gives the false sense of security of not being spam! ;D
-
Im considering it myself. Thread has been up on Nintendo Age for 3 days now and I keep reclicking it thinking of buying.
-
I saw this project for the first time today before seeing that you posted it on the forum! I thought about it for collector's reasons, and then thought I'd think about it some more.
But having someone else mention it certainly makes me want to back it now...
-
Like I said, I keep going back and forth ... my biggest issue is dropping $55 on something I may or may not like ... And who knows what the collectability of the game will be?

It's a valid concern. Well, you can always go back and change your pledge to a lesser amount or cancel it completely before the campaign ends. Or you can PM either me or Amauriel or Amauriel's husband with a tearful plea to sell you a copy a few months from now ;)
Seriously, though, yeah, that's always the risk for Kickstarter. I'd say just back it if you would want to support the game whether you got a reward or not.
The perks are nice for these Kickstarter campaigns (if the succeed), but it's really just about putting down your money to help some hardworking folk achieve their goal.
-
Well, hell, I went ahead and got one. If nothing else, Im sure I can resell it later if I decide to change my mind.
-
Very interesting use of KickStarter. The game doesn't interest me much but having a limited edition 1000 release title kinda, sorta does. I'm not a big DS collector but rarity is always attractive.
-
I'd sign up for an account and back it, but the Facebook link is borked. When they ask for name, is that real name or a user name. So confused haha
-
I used Soera.
-
Ya I just used my standard user name too. I backed it for the Limited Edition, not sure if I'll open it or not. But it'll be a neat talking piece either way.
Edit: The box art is a little "meh" though. They should hire me to spruce it up. :)
-
Im still a little worried I wont be able to totally afford it. When will they collect?
-
End of the month. If they raise enough by the deadline

I knew this guy sounded familiar: http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/07/mf_chainworld/all/1
He's the wackjob anti-vaxxer who made Chain World.
-
I heard Jane McGonigal speak at PAX East 2011, and she had this whole thing in there about Chain World, and how strange it was to know that there were other things in the game that you would want to see but that you were done and that was it and there was no replaying. So 1) She and Will Wright both DID get the game and 2) It really was a strange concept unlike any other, albeit not exactly something profitable.

Kirby, I'm not sure if it's an Australian thing... but what is an "anti-vaxxer"?
-
People who are against vaccination of children. There's one Australian who is STRONGLY against it because she believes it causes autism and she's completely insane: http://meryldorey.org/
I give mad props to that site for having a tag section specifically for avarice, though.
-
Aaah, that makes more sense though. But you know, all the vaccines, are just filled with nano-machines which will track our every move and control our minds from within our minds. :o
-
ID CONTROLLED SOLDIERS FIGHTING ID CONTROLLED WARS WITH ID CONTROLLED WEAPONS etc
-
Great ... this is making me a bit more weary of the fact that I am now backing this project with what little extra money I may have. :o

Whoa, we have people like that in the states, but we don't have fancy names for them like "anti-vaxxer." Interesting!

That's true - here in the states they'd probably just fall under the "Extremist" or "Radical" blanket :)
-
8 days to go and they are 7,574.00 away from their mark. I'm actually kinda interested to see if this thing makes it or not.
-
They're out of the limited edition now though, which might make it harder to get their final push through.
-
I would have known this wasn't spam ;D Last year Zoo Games picked it up after Majesco had dropped it, but then Zoo Games stopped retail publishing and are digital only now. I guess that's why they are doing this though as it looks like it is still in the hands of Zoo Games. That box pic shows indiePub on the label which is part of Zoo Games.

I had been debating ordering the LE so now that it's gone I'll be passing on it.
-
Its funded!
-
An update: This game DID get fully funded today! Can't wait till September!
Edit:
Its funded!
Beat me by 30 seconds I guess...
-
And there goes my $85... ;)
-
Oh ya. Only $55 for me, but if I want to play 2 player I'll just download play it.
-
I saw one of the LE's come up but I missed it by about a minute :'(
-
And there goes my $85... ;)
My $85 too!...but I'm really glad it got funded. As someone who loves board games and video games, this seems like one of the best ways of putting one in the other that I've seen.
-
Got my double pack today! They sent out an email too about a *tiny* slip of paper that has the download code for the soundtrack. So be careful to not accidentally throw it away (I didn't see it at all until I got the emailed update from them).
-
Ive been checking my mail everyday waiting for mine. He updated the kickstarter a few hours ago saying that everything is being mailed out now. :)
-
I'm also waiting impatiently for my copy of the LE. Hopefully it'll be in the mail tonight.... ha
-
I should probably remind you that the guy lives only 70 miles from me, thus the fast shipping ;)
-
Also, once you get the LE, let me know what you think about the artwork for the item record. I know we're supposed to put up the package image, but... well, you'll see that there may be a few options (good example of how having some other alt images for items would be useful).
Also, if anyone has a scanner and the regular edition, please feel free to replace my terrible photo of the front cover.
-
Just pulled my LE out of the mailbox! Haven't had a chance to even open it all up yet.
-
Here's a pic of my LE version. I'm not exactly sure what's in the little brown pouches, since I've not opened them up. But all this stuff inside is pretty sweet.

I wish I got a banknote in mine... that looks pretty sweet.
-
And yeah, as you can see, there's the package view, and then the actual cover is slightly different from the regular edition since it includes the text / edition numbering on the front and the signatures on the back. So I wasn't quite sure what the best solution was. The back of the envelope is perhaps worth photographing as well for the "back cover" art.
-
Ya that bank note is pretty sweet. I almost lost my download code, I thought it was in the envelope itself... but it was in the mailing package instead...

Heh, yeah, same here - that's why I made sure to put up a post about it for people to look for it. Easily missed!
-
That's a pretty sweet looking LE but I think that I am glad that I passed on it.
-
I got #212. My envelope got ripped while opening (didnt realize it was part of the set) but most of the stuff in mine looks the same. Im disappointed in the LE box although the signatures on the back are nifty. I do think the bank note is cool. I just got some of the other stuff.
