Summer Gamefest is rapidly approaching in a couple of weeks and I thought it would be fun to see what everyone's hopes and predictions are for this year's event. I feel like most of the time, discussing and anticipating what will happen is more fun than what actually ends up happening, but whatever.
-
HOPES
- Shenmue IV announced/teased
- New SNK fighting game announced (my guess would be Samurai Shodown)
- The Last of Us: Part 3 teased (99% certain this won't happen because of Intergalactic)
- New 2D Sonic game announced (Sonic Mania 2 would be amazing)
- Third game in the Star Wars Jedi series announced
- Gran Turismo 8 teased
- Half Life 3 (I feel completely stupid for even hoping this will happen, but who knows, maybe this will actually be the year...no it won't)
PREDICTIONS
- Mortal Kombat 2 (MK1 sequel) announced
- new GTA6 trailer (probably final, "BIG" announcement to make up for the anticlimactic TGA 2025 final announcement)
- new Metal Gear Solid game teased
- RE9 story DLC revealed
- new Intergalactic from Naughty Dog trailer with 10 minutes of gameplay and story, with 2027 release revealed
- Sega reveals new Crazy Taxi game with a short trailer
-
The only thing I feel like I can count as a prediction is that I think because State of Play is doing a thing with Alama Drafthouse to broadcast the show that they got some big announcements. Not just showcases for Wolverine or Intergalactic, but maybe the rumored God of War spinoff with Faye among maybe others. I feel like they've really had the crap kicked out of them lately with all their live service stuff failing, or being just okay, or just not showing up and with the confirmation of their first party singleplayer games, I think they want to put their best foot forward right now. Random want, but give me a new Twisted Metal lol
For hopes, always Bloodborne, just give me something, remaster, remake, sequel...and often wanted, a new Banjo-Kazooie. Like just make a new game and throw the HD remakes of the first two with it, GOTY right there for me. I just want it alot as I'm playing through Yooka-Replaylee, which is nice so far, but man it just makes me want the bear and bird lol

After I made this thread, I did some digging to see wha the dominant rumors were around this year's event and a new GoW seems to be at the top of the list. I'm still behind with getting caught up in the series and still need to play the last two most recent games, but this does excite me. Another top rumor is a Nintendo Direct, likely sometime after Summer Gamesfest that is supposedly revealing an Ocarina of Time remake. If this ends up being true, I pray this gets a Switch release too. I'm still not ready to buy a Switch 2, but if we get a new OoT, that may be the game to sell the console to me.
-
Unrealistic Wishes:
Dark Souls 4
Golden Sun sequel/remaster/remake/whatever
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X Remake unveiled and not botched in any way
Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero: Super Limit Breaking Neo gets a physical release, with the base game and all DLC up to the new titular expansion included on-disc
SNK announces they will develop new games for the Neo Geo AES+
Capcom announces Monster Hunter Stories 3 sold so well that they're going to release a sequel in 2 years instead of the usual 5.
Realistic Wishes:
Elden Ring 2
Star Wars: Jedi Telemarketer (or whatever the third Jedi game is called)
New DLC expansion for Monster Hunter Stories 3
New DLC for Monster Hunter Wilds
SNK announces next wave of games for the Neo Geo AES+
Dead or Alive 7
What we'll get:
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X Remake announced with some modern audience tweaks like those stupid cat ear accessories from RE4 Remake.
Skyrim: The Journey Edition announced for car entertainment screens. Steering wheel and gearshift-based control scheme. Expect a dramatic spike in car crashes.
An online-only live service game where you play as a man with a gun trying to take things from other men who also have guns. It will surely absorb the player bases from the other live service games with the same premise and cannot possibly fail.

I was also hearing about the Ocarina of Time remake rumor as I was pretty excited for it, but I feel its less likely now with Star Fox 64 getting remade and releasing next month. I personally don't see them doing two 64 remakes in the same year. I'd love to be wrong, I'd even want them to just do a remaster of the 3DS versions of OoT and Majora, cleaned up, better visuals, bonus stuff added, and just release them in a nice bundle...Heck, I'm at the point I'd be happy for them to just announce Twilight Princess/Wind Waker HD ports because its so dumb those games are stuck on Wii U still lol
-
PS5 Hopes:
- Dino Crisis Remake
- Shenmue 4
- Mass Effect 5 update
- Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection 2 (PS2-3 era)
- RE Code Veronica Remake
- Blight: Survival info/release date
Switch Hopes:
- Zelda Twilight Princess HD
- Zelda Wind Waker HD
- Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake
- F-Zero game
- Killer Instinct
Expectations: Zero
-
I know what I'm hoping for!
SPYRO 4, BABY!
-
Expectations: Zero
That's how I always anticipate these events. Without any expectations, I'm really not in a position to be let down. There's usually at least one announcement that catches my attention in big showings, anyway.

I do this to myself every E3 (RIP), every Game Awards, every Nintendo Direct, and pretty much every even where new games are announced. I almost can't help but get excited about potential announcements. In reality, I don't think any of these game reveal showcases have blown my socks off since some of the mid-2010s E3s, but I typically find at least one or two games to get excited about. That's pretty much where my bar is set, but even that occasionally has been too high, particularly with the console exclusive showcases.

HOPES
A portal from the sky to open and we all return to 1999 again.
Expectations
Derivative games
GTA 6 Price Announcement being 20 dollars too much
Nintendo beating a 40 year Old IP to death instead of innovating.
A Gimmicky Open World Game that takes 2 lifetimes to finish
And tik tokers giggling while saying slang I dont understand
But in all seriousness....
I guess one can hope for
Half Life 3
Klonoa 3
Bioshock 3 (not infinite)
Sonic Adventure 3
The Darkness 3
All the "3" games
Some sort of new Need for speed game.
A new ratchet and clank.
-
Sonic Adventure 3
I would love Sonic Adventure 3 with a revamped Chao Garden that takes advantage of today's processing power. I was so disappointed when Sonic Heroes removed the Chao Garden that I pretty much dropped the franchise. I doubt they'll ever do it, though.

Personally, I'd be more excited about Sonic Mania 2, but would absolutely be more shocked if Sonic Adventure 3 was announced.

Starts in an hour and 20 minutes!

Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake. Just called "Veronica". 2027 release.
New Cup Head game announced. And the studio is working on a smaller game Mighty Cuphead Adventure. Old school pixel art game. That's some good fun. No date announced for that, but I think they realize they need something to hold folks over if Cup Head 2 is gonna take awhile lol
Alien Isolation 2. No date.
Gen Atlas, from the creator of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. This was teased before a little bit ago, but now we get to see more. Very scifi/post apocalyptic. Third person shooter and you get to control and fight giant robots as a human or as a giant robot. Looks pretty sick and I'm all about going back to Shadow of the Colossus vibes.
Blood Message. Chinese action game, mostly just cinematics, not super sure what type of game it is overall.
Stranger than Heaven. January 2027. For some reason Tupac is in this lol Snoop was announced before, but Tupac is so goofy being that he's dead. I don't really care as much for that sorta thing, there's more of that happening lately with GenAI stuff going on, but eh, whatever...
Haex, co-op survival extraction game I think, though I think it's all PVE. 2027.
Dead by Daylight tease of some sort, no clue what its about though lol
Mortal Shell 2 Beta.
Sand Raiders of Sophie. Server Slam now. Western era game where you and some friends build a walking gun platform and then i think fight other players and do PVE?
AC: Black Flag Resynced. July 9th.
Platinum doing a new TMNT game. Oh man, they are doing The Last Ronin, that's sick. Hope it's super crazy and violent.
Didn't Fortnite already do a John Wick drop, which was after they did a "Not-John Wick", now he's just John Wick with a cartoon palette for some reason? lol
Gundam:Rogue Orbit. That's crazy, this is the least Gundam looking thing I've ever seen lol
Cross Fire, third person military shooter, big focus on tactical movement and adaptive cover, singleplayer. It looked kinda bland until it became very Scifi, so started to seem abit more interesting.
Control Resonant trailer. September 24th
Guild Wars 3. Beta Fall 2027, wild to be announcing the BETA a year and a half out.
Star Wars Galactic Racer, Out October 6. So excited for this.
End of Abyss, October 1st, slightly top down horror shooter.
Something Harbor (Name was blocked on the stream I was watching lol) First person survival horror of some sort.
((The stream is so messed up on Youtube and Twitch for some reason))
Virtua Fighter: Crossroads, 2027.
Runescape: Dragonwilds. September 15th.
Soulframe.
Grounded 2 trailer. Just update news for the Early Access.
Mafia The Old Country DLC August 14th.
1666 Amsteram, time bending action game by a guy that I think was said to work on Assassin's Creed years ago. Prologue is out now for free. Love the main character design.
Saw Genesis. Sorta seems like their take on what Outlast Trials was doing. 3 v 1 multiplayer horror.
Lords of the Fallen 2. Fall
Star Wars: Zero Company. Clone Wars era tactical game. August 27th.
The Blood of the Dawnwalker. September 3rd. I think this was the game that was done by Ex-Witcher devs.
Among Us Story: On Guard. Among Us Cartoon Series. Wasn't the cartoon in the works for a long while? it's the cheapest looking cartoon I've seen in awhile lol Out on Paramount.
007 First Light DLC story addition tease I guess, I don't know who Bawma is.
Gothic Remake out now.
Aion 2, September 2026.
Wuthering Waves/Cyberpunk 2027 crossover out next week.
Monster Hunter Wilds expansion. Wish I could be excited, but the base game is so garbage. It does look cool at the very least. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. 2027.
Swords of Legends. Chinese action game. The most generic title of the show lol
Hot Wheels Infinite Rush. September 24th.
I was just about to be like, no to Sonic Racing Crossworlds, but now we got Godzilla and Neon Genesis levels? lol Wish I cared about the game more lol
New Attack on Titan game. I remember liking the first game abit, don't know if I played the second. Out July.
Sea of Remnants trailer. No release info? Weird...
Palworld trailer. 1.0 July 10.
Wolf Among Us 2. 2027. Wolf Among Us Remastered Holiday 2026.
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain. Such a completely different vibe from the first game, way more interesting to me where the first game was kinda like knock off Nier Automata.
Street Fighter 6: Year 4, includes Tifa. Two new characters and Bosch from World Tour.
Final Fantasy 7: Revelation. All platform release, no exclusive shenanigans. Kinda fun to have the crew parachute in from the High Wind to enter the locations. They showed some new costumes or like...class change or something for the cast. "Fit System". New moves and outfit change, maybe multiple per character. Looks great. I need to try and get back to Rebirth, I got kinda burnt out by it and only got like half way through I think. Spring 2027.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of good variety here. Personally for me there wasn't a ton of big games that jumped out at me, Resident Evil: Veronica was the big one, I'm all on board with finishing up remaking the older games. Gen Atlas seems very cool as I love giant robots. The Last Ronin game has potential. Stella Blade 2 looked good as someone that wasn't super impressed by the first game. And I'm interested in FF7, but I need to try and finish the second game first, but I got time.
-
The Last Ronin switching devs is wild. That was probably my favorite reveal aside from the Fortnite trailer, I kinda stopped paying attention after the first hour or so to prepare for the Fortnite event (which was amazing) so I'll probably rewatch it and give more thoughts later.
-
I expected nothing and got 3. Better than the Sony show by leaps and bounds.
1. Last Ronin - I've wanted a dark and gritty TMNT game since the PS2 days. Really looking forward to this.
2. Final Fantasy 7: Revelation - I'll finally be able to complete the story.
3. RE: Veronica - I'm interested but hesitant given modern times and the villain. How badly will this get butchered?
Finally... a slew of games to look forward too.
-
Glad to see Resident Evil: Veronica finally show up, even if they did drop the "Code." Capcom, if you screw this up, you instantly go from being one of my favorite devs to joining Square-Enix in the dumpster. I will never buy your games new again, and I will abandon the RE franchise for good.
Gundam: Rogue Orbit: I was interested until I saw the pictures close-up. Why did they go with such a generic realistic art direction in a Gundam game?
Happy to get some updates on Lords of the Fallen II and Mortal Shell II. I'll get both eventually.
Not sure what to think of gen ATLAS, it's very different from Ueda's past works.
Stellar Blade: Bloodrain: Hmmm... I'll be keeping a careful eye on this. Not thrilled with how they seem to have gone with a much safer design for the new main character. Reserving judgment until I see more.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion looks cool.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation: At least soon I'll be able to get all 3 FFVIIR games on steam and mod the hell out of them to remove all the trash changes to the story, then stitch what remains back into an actual remake of FFVII.
-
That was probably the best Summer Gamfest presentation I've ever seen. It was very U shaped for me in terms of it keeping my interest, but I did walk away with more games to get excited about than I thought I would.
Resident Evil: Veronica - This reveal made the whole presentation for me. I'm a massive RE fan and also a huge fan of all the remakes Capcom has been doing since RE2. Code Veronica is probably the RE game that needed a remake the most (the original has some insane design issues that make it very easy to softlock yourself). The trailer was genuinely cool too and I can't wait to see more on this one!
Alien Isolation 2 - This one was an odd one for me to get excited about seeing how I never finished the first game due to getting frustrating with its stealth and hiding mechanics. It at least inspired me to give that first game a go again, mostly because this sequel looks so cool.
Gen Atlas - I've loved all of Studio Ico's games and this game gave me massive Shadow of the Colossus vibes, but obviously with robots and mechs instead. It was niice seeing more of this game after getting that teaser a couple years back.
Mighty Cuphead Adventures - a 16-bit style Cupped game...YES PLEASE! I'm also excited about the announcement that a direct sequel to the main game is in the works as well.
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain - I still need to play the first game, but the trailer for the sequel gave me massive Battle Angel Alita vibes. Unfortunately, most of the discussion around this game seems to revolve around how young the main character's face looks, but as an action game with a cool sci-fi setting, it has my interest.
-
TMNT Last Ronin and RE Veronica are my big take-aways from this. I hope they do both right. I have confidence in RE Veronica, I just hope they don't cut content like in the RE2 and RE3 remakes. (And here's to hoping we get a RE Zero remake one day.)
-
Overall, this year's Summer Game Fest is about on part with Sony's State of Play earlier this week—maybe even less impressive when considering the difference in event length and total games highlighted between the two.
Alien Isolation 2
With over ten years of technical advancements having been made since the debut entry's release, I'm curious just how intense Xenomorphs may be in this sequel title.
Cuphead 2
Unfortunately, this was only word-of-mouth news and without a trailer. I'd much rather there to have been another original project from developers MDHR, but I suppose they think there's still more opportunity to explore with the franchise.
Gen Atlas
Simultaneously, Gen Atlas feels familiar and foreign in the context of Ueda's previous games. My intrigue certainly remains, and I'd like to play it. I still need to play The Last Guardian, though.
Mighty Cuphead Adventures
As a spin-off from MDHR's main studio efforts, it looks like a fun, retro-inspired platformer. There are even plans for it to be released physically for the Master System.
Resident Evil: Veronica
With its mostly vague trailer discounting RE Engine's iconic look, this was an announcement everyone knew was coming at some point but didn't know when. It may be years before I play it, but I'd like to someday.
Stranger Than Heaven
Stranger Than Heaven is perhaps my most-anticipated game forthcoming, but the inclusion of a digital recreation of rapper Tupac who's been dead for thirty fully years is so off-putting to me and does sully my excitement for the project some. Developers RGG have included celebrities in previous games before, but there is an onslaught of them in this project that's overly-distracting. What purpose do all these celebrity appearances serve besides pandering to some sense of nostalgia that only removes the player from the game's narrative and world? As mentioned, celebrities like Takeshi Kitano have appeared in Yakuza 6, but his inclusion in particular highly elevates the game experience given his history as both director and actor of Japanese crime films. But with Tupac's appearance specifically, it's especially unnecessary. That one's likeness can be sold and repurposed decades after their death has its own ethics worthy to be discussed, but I'll leave it at that.
-
Surprisingly, this year's Day of the Devs event was far more interesting than I remember previous events being, and it was substantially more appealing than previous main events. The video showcase can be watched here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJJ58aEy1-k).
Apple Crumble
In short, Apple Crumble is a murder mystery puzzle game centered around a dysfunctional family and someone in the household plotting to murder Grandma. From what I gather, it's a linear narrative and mystery to solve, but I think I'd be fun if the developers were able to make it to be a Clue-like experience. But perhaps that goes against their vision, depending upon how emphasized the story details are.
Bub
Prominently featuring paper collage stop-motion graphics alongside a blending style of mediums, Bub looks amazing. It's complemented by a mature story about personal hardships set in New York City.
Dreadmoor
To be reductive, Dreadmoor is a first-person adaptation of the game Dredge. It's got a grimy albeit pleasing visual design with DIY style. I think I actually may be more interested in this than its source of inspiration.
Lazy River
This isn't particularly my kind of game, but Lazy River looks like it'll be a lot of fun for a crowd wanting a game featuring FPS and survival mechanics in a silly world that sets itself apart from contemporaries in a fun way.
Prove You're Human
Prove You're Human is a seemingly complex adventure game centered around an AI machine expressing to become human—or that they're already a human already somehow with a body despite their serpentine, animatronic appearance. The brief glimpse and explanation of how the team is crafting animations comprised of expressions and micro-expressions and linking them together for developers to easily use interchangeably to meet whatever the situation calls for is interesting. This is the developers' follow-up project to 1000xResist.
Shot One Fighters
This is a game I'll almost certainly never play, but it caught my attention for its use of roguelike gameplay mechanics set to the fighting genre. Players advance through the campaign while building their moveset along the way. There is also equipment and consumables, alongside downgrades. The trailer emphasized the game's difficulty.
Super Yooka-Laylee Kart
This was a surprise but one that makes sense. It's a retro-inspired kart racer complete with chunky pixel graphics. There's a nice sense of speed and up to eight-player, split-screen support. The trailer highlights all sorts of customization options to make each race challenging and unique that will absolutely encourage long-lasting playability.
Tenebris Somnia
I am incredibly excited for this retro-inspired survival horror project that contrasts pixel graphics with professionally shot live-action film sequences that look terrifying and not comical. What other survival horror game has done this besides the very first Resident Evil? It's already been announced that a physical release is being handled by Lost in Cult, who are known for their high-quality manufacturing efforts.
Threads of Time
Threads of Time looks like a very competent turn-based JRPG with a 3D world and pixel character art. It seems especially inspired by Chrono Trigger, as various eras are explored and party members are recruited from them. On that note, the game will feature party member battle combos and time mechanics that interrupt enemy turns.
All of the above games stood out to me, and they're about half of what was featured.
-
Some fun things got announced today, like they are remaking "Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee", 40 bucks, looks really clean on Unreal. It's not the new Godzilla game I want, but it's the second best thing lol Out in November.
Vampire Survivors is getting new stuff, they just did a new smaller update with a bigger one this summer, and they are expanding into more games and opening what sounds like a small Japanese studio to tap into game design from that point of view.
Playtonic is doing "Super Yooka-Laylee Kart" which is a 3D racer that's a specific throwback to the era of Super Mario Kart. Would've rather they gone back to the well of something like Diddy Kong Racing I'm sure some folks in the studio worked on in the past, but seems like a fun little game. No date or anything for this.
-
Resident Evil: Veronica
With its mostly vague trailer discounting RE Engine's iconic look, this was an announcement everyone knew was coming at some point but didn't know when. It may be years before I play it, but I'd like to someday.
It was funny how long they took to get to the title as if the engine wasn't immediately recognizable.
-
Some more announcements today...
Valheim 1.0 - Loved this when it launched, glad to get a release in September finally.
Cassette Beasts 2002 - I enjoyed the previous game, played it recently, it's basically a monster collecting game, but you don't just capture them, you functionally become them to fight, it's just an all around decent Pokemon-styled game that does the thing I wish Pokemon did by doing sprites with 3D backgrounds.

It was funny how long they took to get to the title as if the engine wasn't immediately recognizable.
For me the unknown wasn't whether they were going to remake another classic RE game, but rather which one. Code Veronica, RE5, and RE0 would all vastly benefit from a remake given how flawed all three of those games are. There were even rumors that Capcom was going to remake the first RE again despite it already getting a remake in the early 2000s. I was hoping it would be RECV, followed by the original, so I was pretty hyped when the trailer confirmed it. While I think a remake of RE5 could absolutely boost that game's appeal, it stands as my least favorite mainline RE title. As for Zero, the game hardly has a reason for existing in the first place unless you're really into Rebecca Chambers. I think Capcom is content with pretending this game doesn't exist and moving on to games that matter way more to the overall canon.

It doesn't seem like Zero is ignored at all. It has a bunch of ports and a remaster and has sold well enough. No reason they wouldn't eventually remake it if they already remade 2, 3 and 4 and now Code: Veronica.
