Title: August 2012 - Recently Added To Collection/Recently Purchased
Post by: disgaeniac on August 01, 2012, 01:40:11 pm
Was just in Gamestop & couldn't resist picking up that one lone copy of "Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom" PSP game that'd been...

*VEXING*

me (w/ its mere existence & refusal to sell)
 :-[

On the "nice" side, though - when I went to ring it up...I found out that it was on sale for $10 less than it was priced at (on its stickers)  8)

I'd have been *really* pissed if it had sold w/o me knowing that...seeing as I'd been *WAITING* for that exact $10 price-drop to buy it  :o

Anyhow, I have a 'feeling' that this one's gonna' be rare/hard to find soon...and (when it comes to the games for the 6 consoles/handhelds that I consider myself pretty knowledgeable in)...these 'feelings' are ~95% of the time right  ;D

Another "weird little side-story/note":

I was in Gamestop a few days ago & saw a guy getting ready to re-sell a pretty big pile of PS2, PS3, XBox, and DS games.
The 1st (top) game that I noticed he was selling was Pokemon SoulSilver DS/NA.

Now, I knew that this was already going for $20 - $25 (Used) on their shelves...

I pulled the guy aside (there were people in front of him) and told him straight-out that:
"I'll give you $10 for it/cash...if they offer you less".

He agreed.

I was right behind him in line then (waiting to pick up my Growlanser pre-orders)...and the cashier scanned the game & said that they'd give him

$3.50...

(IN *STORE* CREDIT)...

for the game  ;)

...He then proceeded to ignore me, act like I wasn't there/never talked to him, accepted their offer, and left w/o a word or even a glance or explanation/apology...

Anyone have *ANY* ideas on wtf some possible reasons/explanations for doing/acting like this might be - 'cause...I'm truly at a loss here :(

Ive met people like that. I was in a Vintage stock a while ago. This girl come in with a box full of NES/SNES stuff. I could see all 3 castlevania games, flintstones 1, among others. Id say 25 NES games and close to 15 SNES games along with the systems and lots of cords/controllers. They offered like $20 for everything. They immediately took it. I told them I would give them 3 times that. They looked at me like I was intruding on their space and ran off.

The moral of the story is : People are jackasses everywhere :D

The moral of the story is : People are jackasses everywhere :D

Ha, Ha, Ha!

While this is undeniably the (sad) truth...couldn't/wouldn't even a "jackass" realize that TEN Dollars is more/better than THREE Dollars & FIFTY Cents  :-\

Again...WTF?!

I *HATE* things/people that I don't understand/can't figure-out what/why their thinking is what it is...must be the 'inner-counselor/psychologist' in me  ::)

...Just another one of my weird "things"!
 ;)

You would assume ... Especially when its $10 cash vs $3.50 store credit. I cant explain it either. But then I go to thrift stores everyday and see all the stuff that is donated. I just saw a fully functional wood chipper at one. Anyone that paid for one knows what it cost and knows for certain that they could sell it but instead loaded it up and gave it to a thrift store. Its crazy but people are weird.

Yea it definitely is strange, but at the same time without those same people like you stated above thrift stores would be awful. Who would donate the rare video games if we didn't have these idiots?

Would you be happy if you had to sell your collection or part of it and get pennies on the dollar? Its no excuse for rudeness but I kinda feel bad for them

Yeah...but if times ever became that hard for me where I had to break-up/sell my collection...I damned sure would *NOT* be selling it at a Gamestop :P

Back on topic...I noticed that the new/sealed copies of {Lollipop Chainsaw} were already on sale for $20 off of the original MSRP; so I picked one up for myself :)

@SCOTT:

Just a little heads-up, Scott...

I found it for $20 off of the MSRP at my local Gamestop.

They were still being shown, displayed, and 'stickered' at $59.99.

I'd been in the same store a day or 2 earlier for something else, and clearly remembered seeing "$20.00 off" stickers right under some of the $59.99 stickers.

Today, none of them still had the $20 off stickers on them, and, the "on-sale" price wasn't clearly displayed anywhere that I could see, at least.

There were 3 guys working the store (2 of them friends of mine -and- the 3rd was a *MANAGER* from another local store..."helping-out".

I decided to give the "new" guy a little test...

I brought Lollipop up, put it on the counter, and had him ring it up...

He rang it up - and told me I owed him $59.99 (I'm sure that, had I let it slide, he would have been more than happy to later 'pocket' that additional $20 of mine)!

I was about to tear him a new one, manager or not (no, let me be honest...MORE SO because it was a manager who knew what he was doing; instead of a new cashier who could have potentially made the same mistake).

My friend (this store's *regular* manager saw me about to lose it), came over and *HEARTILY* apologized for his co-workers "accidentally ringing it up incorrectly :)

took off not only the $20 that should have been reduced in the first place -but- an additional $20 for my "inconvenience" (read: not reporting/getting this other guy fired).

So, I got it for $20!

Just, Caveat Emptor (and all of that, Scott)!

Nothing crooked cashiers hate more than an informed & knowledgeable buyer :P

Decided to go to flea markets today... seems like it wasn't a great idea considering the thunderstorms and such, but I still came out with something.

At my usual reseller I got Blinx on Xbox and a complete in box Cho Aniki Bakuretsu Rantoh Hen on Super Famicom.

The other Flea Market had nothing.

Then I went to some random thrift store-like place. Came out with an old PC port of Double Dragon complete in box, and an SDTV (which cost 4$).

I spent too much this weekend.  I uped my "most I've paid for a retro game" record, and it's eating at me.  Anyway, I wandered into a place called Replays in Memphis Sunday afternoon.  This place had some pretty cool stuff for good prices.  They had a CIB Legend of Zelda in great shape for $20 and a complete Mint NES Action Set for $70.
I picked up a Game Boy with Link's Awakining CIB and a loose cart of E.V.O. Search for Eden for the SNES.  I paid less than a third of what E.V.O. has been going for on Ebay, but it's still more than I like to spend.  I may sell that one since I'm having so much buyers remorse.
Does anyone know if this Game Boy variant came with headphones?

Hmm I'm not sure if they came with headphones or not. I know all the launch ones came with ear buds one with a blue accent and one with a red accent. I've been looking for a pair of those for my cib Game Boy for awhile now.

Garage sales were pretty lame this weekend, mostly likely due to the awful heat wave we're enduring.

However, I did manage to snag a red GBA SP for $15.  I've been looking for one for a while to leave on my nightstand for bedtime gaming action and the one I bought on a garage sale last year had a dead battery.

Go and play it a bit, you might not really have much buyers remorse anymore :P It's such a cool game. I paid close to the Ebay price for it (well... now it's, like, half the ebay price, its value went up recently it seems) and I have no regrets :P

I knew what it was going for.  That was the main reason I bought it.  It was a great deal.  I knew if I didn't like it, I could get my money back for sure.  I just hate that I spent that much on a game.

$40 isn't bad... just think of it as having to pay for it retail.  Which is still pretty high for me but at least you didn't pay some overinflated price to a reseller.

Just picked them up, a guy on NA was selling everything but Jack Bros, Nesters Funky Bowling, and Golf for cheap, I found Jack Bros for 30 and decided to pull the trigger and just get everything at once. Gonna make custom covers for them, I've got manuals for all of them but Jack Bros I think.

There's two versions of this release, one with a controller and one without. I've been hunting this bad boy down forever, I've had about 3 copies of the regular edition but never this one. I guess I consider it a variant, but it's more like a "special edition" or something. At any rate, I've completed my NTSC set finally, and I'll be posting the last item later today ;)

No, it's standing straight up in the box, so the dpad is on the bottom and the buttons are on the top (obscured by the box)

Below a table at an unassuming garage sale Saturday morning, I found a Sega Genesis model 1 system.  I asked if he had any games for it, which he didn't, but he asked if I just wanted it.  So he gave it to me for FREE, though I made him take a dollar for it.  It's pretty dirty, so I'm not sure if it works or not, but it has one of those Turbo Touch 360 controllers I always wanted to try out.

I haven't added any NES carts for awhile, so I went to my local retro game store and picked up the following cheapos:
-Gremlins 2
-Willow
-Total Recall
-Metal Mech
-Conquest of the Crystal Palace

Oh, and I just picked up Ace Combat 6 on the 360... It was suggested to me as the last good Ace Combat game, before it got "Call of Duty-ized" by Event Horizon. It's the first time I'll be playing a game of the series, so I can't wait.

Those controllers are awesome. I have that one and one other (both sealed). I had the last pack (a double pack) that I got for father's day this year but it wasnt as described on Ebay so I had to return it. My kids were upset cause thats what they got me.

I got a new set of controllers today that I want to research before I mention exactly what they are. Ill post about em soon!

*EDIT* I am going to go ahead and mention the controllers. Its a prototype set of the limited edition Messiah wireless NES set. The controllers have never been used and also come with paperwork from Messiah saying the differences between the ones I have and the ones that actually were released. Im kind of excited to own them as its probably the most obscure item in my collection now. :)

Ya, I don't know what the controller is from or what series or anything but it actually feels somewhat comfortable.
@soera I would love to get those type of controllers, that is pretty neat. I have a prototype Messiah NES so it would be cool to add something like that. Good find!

The controllers are made by Game Elements and called the Freak series. They made some for PS2 and some for Xbox/PC. Sadly one of the coolest ones (the dragon) was only released on the Xbox.

Just received Shatterhand on NES. It's one game I've been looking for for a while, but recently it's been going up in price quite a bit... But I found it online for its older price, yay.

I was also supposed to get Godzilla 2 on the NES from that order, but somehow they didn't have a copy left when my order went through, so they just credited my account on that website.

Btw - that other game I saw a few of you talking about, "Hyldlide" (sp?)
is it at all rare or worth anything?

Just wondering 'cause they had it for $1.99 (game only)...

There is a Hydlide for NES, a Super Hydlide for Genesis and a Virtual Hydlide for Saturn. The NES one is pretty common. The Saturn one is probably a $15-20 game.

Hydlide (at least on NES) isn't rare, not worth much either.

It's definitely worth checking out just to see how bad it is though. Even when you understand how it works and how to play it properly... It's still not really good, but it's that special kind of bad you have to experience... Like Shaq Fu and Superman 64 and E.T. :P

Love me some Shaq-Fu.

I have Virtual Hydlide, but haven't attempted to play it yet. If I remember I got it pretty cheap to, I think less than the $15-20 range Soera mentioned. I did read up on it tho, and I guess it also is all kinds of bad. ha

Shatterhand is a great and criminally overlooked gem in the NES library.  Feels a lot like Sunsoft's Batman IMO.

First time I've gone to a worthwhile garage sale in ages :)

I just bought 8 games @ $1/each...some I'm familiar with and (the Genesis game) I know nothing about...but...it was 8 games for $8!!!

They are:

GENESIS:

TAZ In Escape From Mars C.I.B.

and...

PS1:

The X-Files C.I.B,
Resident Evil: Director's Cut *GH* C.I.B,
Final Fantasy VII *GH* C.I.B,
Final Fantasy VIII missing manual,
Final Fantasy IX missing manual,
Legend of Dragoon missing manual, and
Metal Gear Solid no manual

It's about time for some good luck!

So today I went to the BIGGEST Flea Market in Canada! And by big, I mean... take the biggest Flea Market in my area, and multiply its size by... around 8 times. I've never seen so many people in a flea market at once, and so many sellers. It was pretty cool just for that.

What that also means is that I've never seen so many RESELLERS. In fact, the only games I found on that day were from resellers... roughly... 7 resellers stands outside, and 2 inside... Well, minor exaggeration, a few other dealers had NHL games (we are in canada, after all)... so I don't count these... Anyways, my point is this was reseller central. Not a whole lot of reasonably-priced games there.

I still ended up getting a couple things:

Snowboard Kids 2 (a bit lower than the online price after the reseller dealt herself down)
Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow (around the online price)
Radical Rex (lower than the online price)

Rather dissapointed overall (though that's 3 games off my wishlist!), but it was nice to see such a big place with so many sellers, even though a lot of people were selling a lot of the same things... Let's just say there were more bootleg shirt sellers in that one flea market than total sellers in any other flea market I've been to before.

That Conker's manual is probably worth as much as you spent on everything today if not more.

Pretty lousy weekend.  I found some PS2 sports games for a quarter, so I picked 'em up.

The one cool thing I did find this weekend was an original Merlin handheld game for $2.  I've never seen one, so I had to pick it up.  It's virtually worthless, but it's still a cool collectible.

Just received New Super Mario Bros 2, including the future shop pre-order only Steelcase.

That steelcase surprised me though. I was expecting a small 3DS case-shaped thing for just the cartridge and manual, but no, it's actually DVD case-sized (but thicker) and it houses the whole game box.

That sucks!  Newegg did a pretty good job - I got mine on the 17th.  Now they're trying to tempt me again with $15 off Guild Wars 2...

Picked up seven genesis games from goodwill today for a buck a piece, and NHL Faceoff for playstation, mostly because I don't have any PSX games with the large cases, and I wanted one.

BUT!

In the dollar carts was:
Mutant League Hockey!  Hooray!

Very nice! I've been in love with Ranma since the mid 90's.  It's often hilarious, but has a certain charm about it that's hard to put my finger on.

That gum ball machine is pretty BA too.

I'm a bit leery of playing a Civ game on a console, but I'll definitely give it a shot.

Oh yeah, and I nearly picked up a copy of Resident Evil 2 (PS1) at a garage sale, but it was missing disc 1 :(

I've picked-up 3 games since the weekend.

The first one, Disney Princess: Magical Jewels, or something like that is cart. only and was a fluke :P

My sister bought her baby girl a toy 'Kitchen-Range' set, and when she opened the oven part, they found that little cartridge & asked me if I knew what it was...didn't *really* want it (and I wouldn't even say that it*qualifies*/makes my backlog-list); but, she left it here :)

Yesterday I got a "Gamestop new" copy of Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer which I'd been wanting but never came across it before

and

a PSP C.I.B. version of Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles just because it was priced so cheaply...and...it's got this *Really* cute Reversible-Cover!
