1st time creating a topic, but here goes.. To celebrate the return of the NHL, I started this thread to discuss the best hockey games ever made. From Ice Hockey to NHL 2012, what's your favorite?
-
I was just thinking about picking up NHL 13. Have you played it yet? I've heard mixed things. I was obsessed with 12.
oh and GO WINGS! I'm so excited for the game tonight.
-
I still think 94 and 96 are tied for the best, followed by Blades of Steel, any game that sends the loser of a fight to the penalty box deserves to be mentioned.
Go Habs! They will suck but at least they have the most Cup wins :)
-
Wow, I thought it would be weird if I created this topic. But yesterday I went out and bought a bunch of old NHL games in celebration.
For me there are three games that I love:
Ice Hockey (NES)
NHL 94 (Genesis)
NHL 12 (360)
I have not played NHL 13, but I imagine that it will take over NHL 12.
Go Avs.
-
NHLPA Hockey '93 for Genesis is awesome. Also NHL 94 for Sega CD is awesome. Hit the Ice is a badass arcade game but the home translations SUCK! And I have to give the ultimate crown to Wayne Gretzky 3D hockey for N64....countless hours of fun!
BTW I love hockey, I grew up playing since I was 9.
-
The only Hockey game I've ever played is Ice Hockey for NES. I actually have a part time job at an arena, and I'm one of the Zamboni drivers for our local ECHL team.

haha I was going to mention Blades of Steel as well, such good memories and a bonus game!

Being from Quebec... I hate hockey :P
Sadly I kinda HAVE to follow it because my dad and a bunch of people on facebook never talk about anything else.
I do like Ice Hockey though (and I do find it to be better than Blades of Steel). I think the other game I played a lot of is NHL 98 on Playstation... me and a friend played as a team against the toughest CPU... big hits and a few other settings really high, it was about who'd hit the other team more (and we'd always win something crazy like 30 to 0).

My friend and I used to do something similar on NHL 96 on the Genesis, we would make the penalties as common as possible and then see how many guys we could get in the box at one time... good times :D
With shot blocking we would each switch to as many guys as we could so they would all end up on the ice at once. Nothing like watch 5 guys all fall over at the start of a game hahaha

I'm very happy. Big fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs (obviously) and since this topic came up and a big fan of both hockey and video games I did this little video a couple of years ago.

PS - Please don't get on me about not liking the Mighty Duck movies. Sorry :)
-
My favorite hockey game is definitely NHL Hitz, it is like NBA jam with hockey! Never really watch real hockey though, more of a baseball and football person.
-
Wow what a game on Sat. night! Anyway, my votes go go Blades of Steel, NHL '94 ( obviously) , and good old Mutant League Hockey!!!! Oh yea! Chainsaws anyone? :o
-
NHL Hitz!!!

How could I forget about Mutant League Hockey?
*hangs head in shame*

NHL Hitz!!!
I actually used to play the hell out of Hitz. Really fun game.
The Wings looked pathetic Saturday night. It was a sad sad showing. Hopefully we decide to show up tonight.

Oh yea! Chainsaws anyone? :o
They should have chainsaws in real hockey... Then I'd have a reason to watch it :P

Ha, yes! A Canadian that dislikes Hockey! They do exist.

What? Jobocan is Canadian?

Yeah, I'm from Quebec... basically where everyone either loves the Habs or the Sens. And I can't stand hockey, it bores me so much :P

Well I won't hold the fact that you don't like Les Habitants against you... or the fact that you are from Quebec :D

I just assumed everyone commenting in this thread was Canadian.

I'm currently in Oklahoma. But I grew up in Alaska and Colorado. The avalanche were a big deal when I was growing up.
More than that, I've noticed a bit higher percentage of hockey fans among video game fans. I don't know if the reason is faster pace, niche, or what. But for example, the classic game room people love hockey, Lawnboyspost1975 on youtube is a hockey fan from the UK.

What part of OK?

I don't really like hockey either. I got the job at the arena so I could see concerts for free. Then they said "You need to learn to drive the Zamboni."
-
They tried having a hockey match here once, but it turned into waterpolo.

Tulsa.

Ahh. I see. I'm in OKC.

Yeah, I've ran into a few from OKC around here. I seem to be a lone Tulsan though. OKC has the retro gaming society as well. I remember briefly trying to register on their forums but it is one of those that gets individually approved and mine get lost on the backburner somewhere. Oh well.
Tulsa has some good shops. And shops with good names as well. All your base is outside Tulsa. But is a nice place for modern games if you aren't feeling vintage stock or game Xchange. But we recently got a shop called thrillhouse (simpsons reference I assume) that is absolutely amazing. I frequent that shop a lot. Opening week they had a copy of radiant silvergun. I've seen nomads, 32x, segaCD, master system. And the largest TG16 library I have seen. Keep in mind that until I visited that store I had never seen a TG16, but still, they have a selection. Very reasonable prices for retail as well.
Does OKC have good shops to keep an eye out at.
But to keep it on the hockey talk. OKC got several freakin awesome Edmonton Oilers playing on the farm team during the lockout. They were on the injured reserve or something like that before. So, they were sent to the farm team during the lockout. One of those fortuitous moments in Oklahoma sports. Like when Tulowitzki was playing for the Tulsa Drillers.
-
Ha...yeah...I help run OKRGS. If you want to register there just let me know. I can approve your request.
We basically have the same shops that you do in Tulsa (with the exception of Thrillhouse, although I have been, and it is awesome).

NHL 2005 (PS2)
i played this so much i wore the disc out and needed a second copy.
Avs were amazing in the game that season

Anyone watching the outdoor Leafs/Wings game tomorrow? As a Leaf fan I'm really excited about it.
-
I'll probably watch it, hoping that the Leafs will squash the Wings. ;)
I'm a longtime Kings fan, thankful to the Leafs for Scrivens (and Frattin too).
-
Scrivens has been lights out. Amazing. LA has a great defensive system too.
-
I had an amazing amazing hockey weekend. I went to Detroit on Sunday and Monday to watch the games at Comerica Park. I got to see my hometown OHL team (Saginaw Spirit) play the first ever outdoor OHL game on Saturday and the Grand Rapids Griffins on Sunday. We got to do all the Fan Zone stuff too which included a bunch of autographs and a photo with the Stanley Cup. Such an amazing time.
