Me and some friends recently had this conversation, and some cool stuff was brought up. Sega Master System, DC Comics Super Powers action figures, Power Wheels, etc.
I'm sure most you guys have to have something like this from your childhood. I'd imagine most of us didn't grow up rich, or anything.
For me, it was this:

Being an adult now and seeing that package, I'm sure it was cheap and crappy and I would have been disappointed. But as a kid, after seeing the commercial on T.V. for it, and loving The Real Ghostubster Saturday morning cartoon; I had it completely built up in my head. On the commercial it showed these plastic toy ghosts actually getting sucked into the trap, and that just sounded so cool to me. I already had the toy Proton Gun w/Backpack, and the toy ghost finder radar thingie. I would have had the enitre get-up! I could have been the next Ghostbuster!

Mine was this : (http://images.wwcomics.com/images/large/X_94_84.jpg)

Mine was this bad boy. I almost bought it with birthday money one year, but pass on it for some NES games instead.

Another item I really wanted as a kid:

I so wanted one just to see how the 5 Thunderzords transformed and locked together to make the Thunder Megazord.[/quote]

Wow, yes to pretty much everything in this thread. I never REALLY wanted a power wheels, but my mom told me I could never have one, because she was afraid I'd drive it down a flight of stairs. So that made me want one all the more.
For me it was probably a Neo-Geo. I would always see it in magazines, assuming that the insane price for console and games would mean that each title would be life changing.

Apart from video games the thing that stands out in my mind is:

I never really was a Transformer kid ... but after looking at what you wanted and what you got, you made out great!

Same here. Can't go wrong with an evil robot that transforms into a facsimile of Han Solo's laser blaster.

A lightsaber. I was a huge Star Wars fan. I always wanted a lightsaber. But never got one. I don't think it was a money issue. They had some pretty cheap ones without the cardboard box. I think it was a "I would have been annoying" issue.

Scott! You are genius! I never even knew, that there was a Technodrome toy. I had all the Turtles but had no idea this existed. This is awesome!! I'm going to ebay for this! ;D 8)
Per the post, my one thing believe it or not, was always a game boy with super mario land lol

Many a G.I. Joe vehicle... like the Cobra Terrordrome. Oh and for Transformers it was certainly Jetfire. I have Jetfire now but not the Terrordrome.

don't feel bad. I got my first light saber at 25 years old as a christmas present from my mom lol. Me and my little brother have actually had a light saber battle (he has one). it was pretty fun. We created rules and had a battle. Also, I woop my kids with mine sometimes lol. It works just as good as a belt.

hotwheels track sets not really any one set in particular (though there were some)I just know that I never had enough motors/curves/spirals/loops to build like I truly wanted to

Oh God did I ever want the Monorail Transport Base!
But it was about $180 in 1994. Calculating inflation makes it $284.06 So, yeah I can see why they didn't get it for me. Wait, I was only 8 at the time. Damn I feel old.
