Rare PS2/XBOX standard release games?
-
For PS2, that would be Rule of Rose, the .hack series, Shadow Hearts, Suikoden V, and Wild Arms Alter Code F. Xbox would be the Steel Medalion Set with the Flight Stick Controller, GTA Trilogy, The Guy Game, and Halo Triple Pack.
For both systems, Jurassic Park Operation Genesis, Digimon Rumble Arena 2, and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.
Honestly, most of the U.S. releases aren't too pricey, especially for PS2 so they're fairly easy to get and you may to able to find decent prices for most of these if you look hard.
Imports on the other hand, especially the Japanese PS2 shooters, are quite rare and expensive to acquire, especially Ibara.

Yes, it was the last game they released before Working Designs went defunct in Dec.2005. The president of that company, Victor Ireland made his own company, Gaijinworks that is considered a successor in the sense that they work on bringing niche games to the U.S., and so far have mostly done this on digital platforms.

Gaijinworks is at least helping to get physical copies of the Class of Heroes sequels out... yet more rare items put out into the world!

Yeah, I'm really hoping that they are able to localize and release more physical copies of the other games in the series; that would be great!

I would agree with most of these, because in my days of hunting I've only seen each maybe once, or twice. In some cases not never. However, Rez and Stretch Panic stand out to me as two games that I've seen quite a bit of for whatever reason. I've not once seen Trapt, Blood Will Tell, or Forever Kingdom in person.
It's hard to say, there are probably plenty I've only ever seen once. For PS2 I'd say Tsugunai, because I never found that game in the wild, had to order it. Can't say I've ever seen Dual Hearts in person before either, or Under The Sun. Metal Saga seems like another one.
For Xbox it would be harder for me to add anything, because a lot of the games I've bought, I never saw again in the wild. Conker comes to mind, took me 5 years to ever see another copy after I passed up on one! Maybe Curse: The Eye of Isis, or Dreamfall: The Longest Journey? Also, can't say I've ever seen Stubz The Zombie in person before.

Dokapon Kingdom for both Wii and PS2 are also rare out in the wild (but it's a fun game for the child in ya).

My wife slipped and fell into this one at GameStop. It's in one of those stupid GameStop cases with no manual. Anyone have a spare Dokapon Kingdom for Wii case and manual?
I don't have clue what it's about, but she was excited about it.

It's hard to explain... Kinda like Mario Party, but you ro-sham-bo to fight each other or npc enemies, you can steal land from other players, you can force their player name to be changed to something like "Poo" and give their avatar a poo-shaped haircut.
Here's what the cover art looks like: http://www.gametdb.com/Wii/R2DEEB

With the exception of Conker, I thought about adding all the games you just mentioned to this list. The only reason I didn't is because I've ran into those games at least several times over the years, but never enough to say any of them are common. They are at the very least pretty uncommon. But yeah, that is how I made this list, based on 5+ years of consistently hunting for games and how often (or not) I have run into these games.

Ya'll are missing Chaos Wars, RAD, Xenosaga III, Any of the Fatal Frames (both systems).
Also apparently the King's Field set (JP) is mad rare.

PS2
Rez
Don't forget, the PS2 Rez got a stealth rerelease at one point, it's not quite as rare as it once was. Sadly, there are literally no differences between the original release and the second print version... Gamestop even resorted to opening new reprints and selling them as "used" copies because the used price was higher than the new price at the time of the reprint's release.
-
I believe Rule of Rose is the rarest standard PS2 release. It generally sells for over $200
Metal Wolf Chaos for the Xbox (japan only) goes for around $150
-
On Steel Battalion, do you have to have that crazy controller set-up? Or can you actually play it on a regular XBox controller? Anyone know?

Rule of Rose seems to be the going for around $120-140 complete, so its the rarest release in North America. However, Ibara, which has a japan only shmup release, happens to be the overall rarest ps2 game probably because it had a limited print run like most shmups and most of the hardcore crowd that usually buys those games did not purchase this, because the gameplay was different than expected for the crowd. It usually sells for around $165-200 complete.

It actually does requires that special controller to play it. They are currently going for $200+ on ebay.
The game and the controller originally retailed for $200 when it came out and didn't sell very well because of that. I've read that the game didn't turn a profit and just broke even for what it cost to make it.

It's cool it even exists, though. I doubt I'll ever get a hold of it. But it would be awesome to play, at least once, with the whole set-up.
