It's awesome to hear they are patching out that stupid 9 day wait to get all the items. I'm guessing they got enough negative feedback on that to change things. Wish that would happen with their Youtube policies, but Nintendo can't get everything right I guess lol

I can't wait to play and try out everyone's levels. What type of style will you be building in? I'll probably try them all but my favorite is going to be Super Mario World.

Well you'll have thousands of Mario levels to play. The "Maker" part is the hook for many, but you can get it and never make anything, just play all the cool stuff others make.

From what everyone who has it so far is saying, the US version still has the 9 day wait. So if that's where you live, then you're still stuck with it or time travelling. I guess Nintendo thinks Americans need more time to understand the tools.

Seriously? It's not a worldwide patch? I didn't catch that at all. I thought the wait was a ridiculously bad idea. Curbs creativity. I understand the idea, they did it with Splatoon, but for that, it keeps the game fresh, drip feeding new content after the initial bigger push. With Super Mario Maker, I want all the options available right away to create the best level I can. I'll learn the items as I go. I don't think building in this is gonna be all that hard.

NA got the patch but the update to unlocking isn't included for some dumb reason. I'm watching a livestream and nothing unlocks unless they timetravel.
EDIT: Some people in the US are saying it does in fact work. Lots of conflicting reports here. Perhaps the patch is bugged somehow?

Very true, and the gamepad helps, it makes making levels much easier then using a controller.

That was a lot of fun to watch! When you're making a level, do you just kind of put in things and build stuff as it comes to mind, or do you work out a theme before you start? :)

I'm not much of a "builder", so the only draw for this game for me personally are the levels that are available.
So far, from web articles I'm reading, I'm hearing that there aren't levels out there with that same level of Nintendo quality. And that the most popular levels are sort of "auto" levels where you don't do anything but watch the level take Mario on an auto-course.
So that doesn't sound too appealing. Is there truth to these reports?

We will definitely be talking about this tonight.
What I will say now is it depends entirely on the maker.
Since you can follow makers I think the only point of playing random levels is to find the makers that build the kind of levels you like to play then star and follow them.
Also your own # of uploads is limited by how many stars your existing uploads get.

Thanks.
I pick an SMB theme and then I kind of wing it but play test a lot to make sure the level is enjoyable and plays the way I want.
I make adjustments to object positioning to take into account background graphics and try to make layers to give depth. I also make sure every item visible is attainable. Every single block must serve a purpose.
I also game the timer to give enough sense of urgency that you won't be able to do everything in the level on the first playthrough. This provides a reason to return.
I always enjoy returning to a level to explore more fully.
I hate grinding through ridiculously hard levels.
It's these things that separate a good level from a bunch of random crap.

I've found it quite easy to build levels, but I'm not enjoying it very much thus far.
The levels I have played-none from you fine, fellow VGCers-haven't been that great. There are a lot of autopilot levels that basically you don't move and it shoots you around. It's entertaining for a bit, but it gets old fast.
Honestly, to me it's a poor-man's LittleBigPlanet. But with the general hypocrisy in gaming journalism, a game like LittleBigPlanet 3 with all it offers averages out to 79-80% overall between GameRankings and Metacritic. Meanwhile, Super Mario Maker with all it's limitations to what you can actually do with it has an overall score of 88-89%. Yep, hypocrisy at it's finest.

Just spent a few hours playing more levels from the folks that have been posting here as well as folks whose levels I encountered during play through online.
While I agree just playing random levels exclusively gets old fast I rather enjoyed playing the more polished levels from what are now my favorite authors.
Also I don't think hypocrite is the word you are looking for. :) I think you mean favoritism. I own LBP 1 & 2. They are great games. But don't have the nostalgia factor or brand recognition of Mario.
I think it's those things that can push the reviews slightly higher than they might otherwise be.

Yeah, the random levels online are 99% garbage right now. I doubt that will ever change, honestly. It's almost entirely troll levels and LOL HERE'S A BUNCH OF STARS AND TONS OF ENEMIES SO JUST RUN BLINDLY LMAO and automatic levels (which seem polarizing, but after you've seen one you've seen them all imo). Also it seems like several levels have been just random spam people did to unlock more blocks and then said "eh I'll just upload this vomit anyway". At least I haven't seen any uploads of the tutorial level in a few days.
But if you find the right people and you follow them there are really good levels out there. I think mine are pretty decent, too. One of my levels got 10 stars today! Kinda weird how sometimes levels just suddenly get played a whole bunch out of nowhere. I think I've been doing pretty well so far, sitting at just under 60 stars.
I've tried a few of the levels posted here which are excellent and I hope to get to more tomorrow. :)

I would agree with you on it being favoritism except for the fact that reviewers criticized elements of LBP and provided Mario a free pass for the same things. I'm not going to turn this into a gripe fest because this thread is for people to find and share Mario Maker levels. I fully intent to check out some of the creations my fellow VGCers have created. I will say though that the creation tools given in LBP are beyond reproach and unrivaled in any game from any other developer.
I just really wish that Nintendo had opened up the floodgates to allow true creative freedom. Again, I'm going to be checking this game out more thoroughly this weekend when I have more time and I'm not absorbed in the Taken King. :-\

LBP is for making games.
MM is for making Mario levels. :)
Compared to each other, yes LBP would be the winner. But taken as their own and reviewed for what they are, I would say Mario deserves the passes it gets.
If it was called Nintendo Game Maker then I would agree it should score lower for the reasons you mentioned. But it doesn't claim to be that broad or capable.
:)

Well, you can just use the tools at hand in LBP to make more platformer levels if that is what you want, but that's neither here nor there.
On the topic of Mario Maker, I hope some enterprising people recreate entire Mario games since Nintendo won't release a classic compilation package and rather force gamers into buying digital downloads of games they have already bought before, sometimes multiple versions.

Turns out that old man Nintendo is giving cease and desist orders to YouTuber's playthroughs of people's levels on Mario Maker.
...yeah, that's right. They're killing the best advertising they have for this game! What the hell is going on at Nintendo nowadays?! I really hope they pull their heads out, because unlike most gamers, I don't want to see Nintendo die. And now with the death of Satoru Iawata, I'm sure that kind of tragedy can't help.

Dash signed up the Retro Reload Channel with the Nintendo creator thing. So Our channel should be fine.
Yep. As long as we let Nintendo take a cut of the ad revenues for our videos they will use it as protection money to protect us from their lawyers. :)
Seriously though, I actually register every video with them directly and they explicitly approve of us using their content.

Just go to the Miiverse site and login with the same id and pass you use for your Wii U. https://miiverse.nintendo.net/
You also have to go to the Wii U's home menu and then select Miiverse and whatever is on your screen will be your screenshot. Just post it on Miiveres and you can access it from the site.

I didn't find them very hard to be honest. Maybe watching the NWCs at E3 helped, but it didn't take me more than 4-5 attempts to beat any of them and I did the last one on my first go.

You unlock them from playing the 10 Mario Challenge. When they're unlocked they show in the Course Bot.

You really don't understand how awesome this game is until you play it. There are a few tweaks I would make to it (Like being able to find friend's courses easier or posting levels to a group), but this is amazing. The Boy loves it. I wish I could get a little alone time with it to make a proper course.
I can see myself having a lot of fun with this.

Nintendo has a web version Miiverse you can go to. Just get the screen shot or address off that. Just use the same login you have with your Wii U account. https://miiverse.nintendo.net/
To make a screen shot to post on Miiverse, you have to go to the Home page via the home button during gameplay and select Miiverse. It should show the picture of whatever the screen is on and you can enter it in a journal entry. So if you go to your SMM profile and select the level you uploaded, tap the ID for the number, and then press home then go to Miiverse then you should be able to snap the screenshot of it. Then go to the web version and copy & paste the URL. I hope that made sense.

I have several other levels I haven't posted if you follow me in SMM.
Not trying to brag but I think I do a decent job at new "old school level design." With a good bit of brain teasing challenge without trolling.

I made the level longer. All power-ups are stackable. I added a checkpoint and... I hope ya'll enjoy the shooter section. spac316 the shooter part was inspired by Super Mario Land AND by your most recent Michael Bay level update!

So stupid. There wasn't anything wrong with them. But I just rebuild them and reupload. They can't keep me down. Most of the popular levels are the auto and music kind or by popular YouTube personalities. Not everyone has that luxury. It's unfair that my levels get removed because I don't get as much plays and stars as I like because I'm not a big youtuber or I don't make auto and music levels or some are not good at Super Mario.
