What are your video game related New Year resolutions for 2016? These can involve collecting, playing, achievements, or any other goal that you might have. Here are mine:
- Purchase a PS4: I've wanted one of these things pretty bad since around E3 this last year now that a good amount of great games have been either released or announced for the console.
- Play at least 50-games in by backlog before year's end.
- Continue to fine tune my collection: I've actually been selling parts of my collection off that don't mean as much to me in order to make way/afford other things that I want way more.
-
Short and sweet:
1. Buy more games.
2. Play more games.
-
Short and sweet:
1. Buy more games.
2. Play more games.
Pretty much the same for me!
-
Maybe buy less video games, play more video games.
Also, buy a capture card and start streaming.
-
1. Cut down on the backlog
2. Not care as much about shiny CEs/LEs unless it's for a favorite franchise
3. Continue to be fabulous and glamorous
EDIT: I'm going to add one more.
4. Play one of my import titles without the use of a guide. I'm going to see how much Japanese I have truly learned.
-
1. reduce my backlog of games.
2. come up with a good way of displaying what games I have played to the end/credits to help me know which games to play next. (maybe export my list to an excel spreadsheet and randomly assign numbers to order which I play first. I have difficulty deciding what I want to play.)
3. create a ranking system for games that I have either played to completion or just played (even if its just great/good/bad/horrible rankings)
4. Get my Last Guardian collectors edition that WILL come out in 2016
5. Get a playstation VR when it comes out.
6. buy less videogames. (I tend to buy games to buy them. I want to buy meaningful/rare games instead)
7. I feel i'm at the point where I need to invest in a disc buffer.
8. Get my Last Guardian collectors edition that WILL come out in 2016
9. Add more fun simple math to the forums to help illustrate/prove my point.
10. Get my Last Guardian collectors edition that WILL come out in 2016
11. beat at least 1 NES hard game
12. get a GD 3rd book case so I can stop doubling up games on my shelves (display them all 1 deep not 2)
13. come up with a viable option for displaying my handheld collection. (any input would be appreciated)
-
1. Actual Video editing software. in other words get something that isn't Windowa Movie Maker (before someone says it, no I'm not getting a Mac)
2. Build shelves not just buy them.
3. Play games.
4. Kick ass and chew gum.
-
1. Sell what I don't need/play
2. Buy more games I actually want to play
3. Get cart sleeves for all of my NES/SNES/N64 and Genesis games
4. Stop impulsively buying things I don't need
5. Beat all the games on my backlog
6. Make time to make more videos on YouTube
-
Short and sweet:
1. Buy more games.
2. Play more games.
Pretty much the same for me!
And myself as well!

My main goal is to be more active! This year involved buying and fixing a house, getting married, etc. Not a lot of time to play or collect. I missed a lot of goals last year. That will change this year.
Blizzard Goals
1) Level a Demon Hunter to Max.
2) Play and beat Diablo III Campaign
3) Learn how to play a Heroes of the Storm character
4) Build and learn a hearthstone deck
5) Max level Starcraft 2 co-op characters (all of them)
Playing goals
1) Beat Halo
2) Replay and really explore Shenmue 1 (shenmue 2 next year in preparation for shenmue 3)
3) Achievement hunt vvvvvv and plants vs zombies
SEGA Collecting goals:
1) This will be an 8-bit year. Get farther on SG-1000, SMS, and Game Gear complete sets. No particular goal or number. SMS is close. Game Gear is half way and cheap. SG-1000 is slow going. Buying those as I get to them in chronology series.
AGES of SEGA Goals:
1) 6 videos minimum. No excuses this year.
2) Work on SG-1000 site.
3) Contribute of SegaNerds more and be more active on vgcollect.
-
I did pretty good on my 2015 resolution, which was to not buy any games until I put a considerable debt in the backlog. I only bought three games this year. I'll probably just stick with that one. I was buying way too much stuff before.
-
Xbox One
3DS XL (new)
build a 2nd gaming shelf.
More games on all platforms
Maybe - buy a woody atari
-
My resolutions!
1. Purchase and start collecting for the retro cartridge-based consoles (SNES, Genesis, etc.)
2. Keep a high ratio of my owned games beaten (currently at around 73%)
3. Purchase an Ace Combat 5 Flightstick
4. Try out as many different franchises as possible (This year I count 11 solid franchises that I played a game from for the first time)
5. Keep talking to all you cool cats 8)
-
I'm hoping to...
1-Beat more games
2-More physical PC games
3-Maybe buy an Oculus
4-Patiently wait for the new Doom haha
-
I'm going to create some digital art featuring all of the video game characters that I've come to know and love. I might need some help from you guys for this one, for critique and verification.
-
1. Reach over 2000 items in my collection.
2. Purchase (boxed) NES, SNES and N64 systems.
3. Not buy a single "new" EA game except Garden Warfare 2. I hate supporting this company and their shenanigans.
4. Get an import copy of Bloodborne - The Old Hunters (since Asia actually got physical copies)
5. Custom shelves. I plan to use a Dremel to carve/etch the name of the system that the games are for on a piece of wood mounted to the top. It will be fun. So when you look at the shelf of (say) PS2 games, it will have the "PlayStation 2" logo across the top.
6. Finally finish taking pictures and cataloging all the various posters, promos, standees and other assorted swag I have.
7. Have enough aluminum cans saved up that when I cash them in, I can buy a brand-new game or pay off a preorder.
8. Have enough change saved up to buy a brand-new game or pay off a preorder.
9. Find more rare & unusual PlayStation items that were not for sale.
10. Keep playing games with my girls. I see a lot of Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 in my future...
-
1. Finish my Wii collection, I have a few more third party titles and first party things to get.
2. Expand my DS/ 3DS/ PSP/Gamecube collections.
3. Try not to buy anything new ( unless its a collectors/ limited edition that's is in demand)
4. Get some more Saturn/Dreamcast/ Xbox 360 shmups
5. Cut down on duplicates and sell those
6. Look into getting Everdrives for cart systems
7. Find a cheap monitor that can easily be mounted in a vertical ( 3:4 or 9:16) position.
8. Play more games and get more shelving.
-
I think 2016 will be the year I finally play to completion the many Final Fantasy games I either stopped part way through or purchased but not played.
FF9
FF X
FF X2
FF XII
FF XIII
FF XIII 2
FF XIII 3
FF Type 0
That said I will probably only play Xenoblade Chronicles X. :)
And I will also impulse buy another metric f-ton of games.
-
1. Finish aquiring the games on my PS3, Wii, and 360 wish lists.
2. Finish off my amiibo collection by buying a Lucina amiibo at MSRP
3. Play more Vita and 3DS games.
4. Play Uncharted 2 & 3 before 4 is released.
5. Beat more games overall. Maybe at least 30.
6. Achieve Platinum Trophies on some of the Playstation games I'm close on.
7. Become more active in this community :D
-
Start collecting for the NES and SNES, finish acquiring the PS1 and PS2 games I want, and buy a WiiU n a PS4.
-
When I was 17 or so I said I was going to be president in 2016. That would be the first election I'd be eligible for the office.
That didn't work out, so I'll stick with game collecting and playing goals.
1) Same as last year. Finish my NES collection. I'm 18 games away. It won't be long. Flintstones is the big hurdle. Stadium Events just isn't going to happen.
2) Inventory all this shit. I've had a few things leave my collection. This is going to be a job.
3) Find a good spot to put my collection. I'm in the process of selling my house. I hope I can find something else soon. It's all boxed up right now. :'(
4) Get back to making videos. I want to finish my Complete NES Review. I haven't made a video in nearly a year. I want to get back to it. I want to do some more Playing Games With The Boy and I have a couple more ideas.
5) Really jump off in the podcast. Retro Reload is going to be better than ever in the new year. I've been adding equipment and we are getting better as a group. If you haven't checked it out. We have a good time.
6) Enjoy my collection. I have all these games. I need to take more time to enjoy them.
-
20 other LE consoles and about 150 more games, then I consider my collection complete.
-
To wrap up my active collecting by axing some from the want list that I can live without and really putting effort into acquiring the rest.
Playing more games, particularly more NES, Genesis, and SNES.
To no be so anti-social and actually play at least one Wii U game online, since it's there and it's free.
-
I'm gonna try to make some real goals for next year.
Maybe knock my wishlist down to under 200, either buying/trading games or getting rid of titles I probably don't care about.
Do a full inventory of everything I own.
Finish my app to price out my collection. (Hoping to actually finish that this year, but who knows how long that will take me)
Repair my ylod PS3
Complete my current top 10 wishlist by the end of 2016. (I've already knocked off 1, so maybe I'll make a new top 10 before the end of the month)
More to come I'm sure.
-
1920x1080 ;)
-
If am still alive for this 2016 this will be my resolutions will begin with some more titles for my Xbox 306...
* Deadpool
* Splatterhouse
* Dante's Inferno
* Silent Hill: Downpour
* The King of Fighters XIII
* BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger
* Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition
For the last gen consoles definitely will gonna get an Xbox One with the following titles:
* Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
* Gears of War 4
* Dead or Alive 5 Last Round
Also and for sure a Japanese copy of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 but not quite sure for which console, dunno why but I got the feeling that am forgetting to add some titles, if I remember them I'll update my list, this will help me out a lot to remember what I need to purchase first ;D

At the rate I'm moving currently, I might go under 200 before the end of this year. Might have to actually adjust that and aim lower.
And I knocked off a few on my top 10, might knock off more before the end of this year.
I will definitely need to come up with better resolutions.
I'm now under 200 on my wishlist, and it'll probably go lower before the end of the year, by 10 games I bet. I might also remove all of the really pricey games that I will likely never bother to purchase, maybe get digital copies instead (Hagane, EVO, Wild Guns, etc.)
I'm going to come up with a better list of goals.
1. Get my wishlist under 100
2. Finish application to price a collection
3. Do a full inventory (including condition) of my collection
4. Rearrange game room and build more shelving units
-
My goals for 2016 are going to be a bit of loss and gain.
I have rebuilt my game museum into a gamer's room. I miss my museum type of room but now its usable to actually play games. With that said, I plan to simplify my collection in 2016. If its still in my closet, I need to sell it/trade it off.
The gain : I am going to continue my quest for a super PS4 collection. I have loads of titles Im looking forward to in the next 12/24 months and can not wait to acquire them all.

- Play and beat Dark Souls
- Catch all 721 Pokemon in Pokemon Omega Ruby (I'm at around 500 right now)
- Play Final Fantasy XIII
Collecting Goals
- Hit 1750 games in collection this year
- Obtain at least 15 import games this year
- Get within 5 games of finishing my Wii and 360 collections respectively

Since I bounce back & forth all the time and change my mind often, I sat down and really, really thought about what my goals for 2016 should be. 2015 was like a big party for me-at least as far as games go. But with everything that happened this year such as my well pump crapping out, my house being bombed by softball sized hail resulting in me having to have new windows, shingles and siding put on on top of my wife going out of work on disability and subsequently losing about $900 a month (due to higher insurance costs and the difference between her disability and what she made while working), I think 2016 will be a much, much lighter year for me. And I'm fine with that. So with that said...
1. Reach over 2000 items in my collection (should be easy since I'm only 45 or so away)
2. Keep collecting cheap back issues of Game Informer to try and complete the collection.
3. Not buy any EA games besides Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 new (because, y'know...EA sucks)
4. Finish taking pictures and cataloging all my various posters & other swag (probably another 100 items right there)
5. Keep playing games with my girls, because we all like the games and it's time together.
6. Save up enough aluminum cans to pay off a preorder (ended up with $30 worth I cashed in this year)
7. Save up enough change to pay off a preorder (should be pretty easy).
8. Work on custom shelf toppers for each system.
9. Focus on the PS4 games I want this year.
10. Peruse yard sales, garage sales, storage/flea markets and junk stores for super-cheap old stuff I can buy for around a buck.

Now is a great time for PS3 collecting. We are at that point where PS3 is being phased out and stores like GameStop are blowing the games out for dirt-cheap prices. It's hard to pass up even games you aren't too interested in for cheap. I picked up Battlefield 3 for $1.69 complete!

1920x1080 ;)
I'm so late but... Damn, it took me a while to get it, and then I laughed at my stupidity ::) Good one!
-
1. Add 150 games to my collection.
2. Complete at least 10 retail games.
3. (On the fence on this one) Add another system to my collection - Either an XONE or an NTSC PS2.
-
I'm kinda late to the thread but here's mine:
- Get the rest of the Hatsune Miku game releases I'm missing. All that's left is to import the original Project Mirai for the 3DS, buy the North American PS3 version of F 2nd, and import a physical copy of the Vita version of Project Diva f and I'll be up to date (not counting the digital-only Dreamy Theater releases). Hopefully Project Diva X, and Future Tone will get localized some time this year after they release in Japan. :)
- Get the rest of the Disgaea games I'm missing. Still 7 left including the spinoffs.
- Get more Puyo Puyo stuff.
- Buy stuff I actually really want to own and play instead of a bunch of cheaper games I won't get around to playing right away.
- Continue importing more games exclusive to other regions.
-
Last year, I only played/finished a total of four games. I'd like to beat that sad result this year.
I'm hoping to add some more NTSC-J GBA games to my humble collection.
-
My first resolution might be a bit unusual...
- Sort through my collection and sell/trade games that I don't feel like keeping all that much.
- Play games that I own.
- Do not break anything when I move to my next apartment ::) Last year a plastic-drawer-tower-thing broke and my cartridges were spared, but they saw great danger. This year I'll be way more careful.
- Get more Japan imports
-
All I really want to do is get the platinum for Dark Souls 2. Good thing I only have three trophies left. Bad thing is that they're all of the magic trophies, getting some of them is going to be a total bitch.
-
Bit late but whatever:
- Purchase a PSP
- Beat atleast half of my unfinished PS3 games
- Beat atleast half of my unfinished Steam games
- Beat my remaining unfinished DS games
-
God, japanese Sega Saturn game have become bullshit expensive :/
-
Complete all my incomplete games before buying more.
Also play them.
-
God, japanese Sega Saturn game have become bullshit expensive :/
Interesting goal. ;D
My latest status update - keep buying games like an enraged lunatic. I should be able to unofficially "complete" at least one collection. I mean, I'm only 4 games away from having every N64 game I could think of wanting. But I've saved the priciest for last. :(
-

- Play and beat Dark Souls
- Catch all 721 Pokemon in Pokemon Omega Ruby (I'm at around 500 right now)

After incredibly good luck at a swap met, I knocked out one of my collecting goals. I'm pretty sure I'll be hitting 1750 games by the end of the summer. I am somewhat doubtful that I'll reach my Wii/360 goal, as well as the import goal, but you never know. Still plenty of time to complete the game playing goals.
-
I'm down to 125 on my wishlist with 5-10ish games on the way right now. I might break 100 before summer.
At some point down the line I'm going to continue rearranging rooms. Our handheld game room is pretty much where we want it, I intend on swapping some stuff around later.
-
We need updates.
My wishlist is down to 108, so I'm bound to get under 100 by the end of the year.
I've decided that a gaming goal for this year for me is to play through most of the Assassin's Creed games. I may back peddle on this one, but with no console games coming out that I feel I have to have and tons of backlog, I'm going to try to get through the AC games. I only need to pick up Brotherhood, Rogue, and Syndicate, but I have a ton of time to get those before I get to those titles. Brotherhood I'll need to get soon though.
I may pick up Chronicles at some point if I can get it for about $10, I think.
-

- Get within 5 games of finishing my Wii and 360 collections respectively (6 left for 360, 10 left for Wii)
- reach 250 PS1 games
- Focus primarily on my PS3 collection, hitting the 200 game mark (currently at 194 PS3 games)
Was able to get over 1800 games already thanks to going a little overboard with Gamestop's B2G1 sale. Also found a cool PSP import this weekend to, putting me at 6/15 imports for the year. Also worth noting is I am at 194 PS3 games now! I'm very confident I'll have this goal under wraps by the end of the year. I'm only one game from having only five 360 games to go. Wii, I'm still a little ways off. Not impossible to get within five for the Wii, but it will be down to the wire most likely.
I'm not going to focus more on my Playing Goals. I'm a little behind on the 52-games challenge and it sounds nice to take on either FFXIII or Dark Souls soon.
-
play more vidya
get more collector's editions of vidya i want
not too hard
i'd say 'buy more vidya' but i'm constantly broke and i really, really need to save up for some other vvv important things.
-
1. reduce my backlog of games.
2. come up with a good way of displaying what games I have played to the end/credits to help me know which games to play next.
Updates.
1. Not happening, Although I have beaten 50 games my backlog has expended by many many more than that.
2. all my games are exported to a excel file that games get shifted to the played/beaten tab when im finished with them. with multiple entries if I beat it multiple times...
3. somewhat... when I rank games in the 52 in 2016 forum I rank them 1-10 with 5 being what I expected it to be. which is really vague considering some games I expect to be knocked out of the park and as such they get bad scores when played. I also don't entirely stick to it.
4. 8. 10. I have 2 collectors editions pre-ordered for the last guardian (which is surprising because im not a sealed collector but one will always remain sealed). now its just a waiting game till October when it releases.
5. not going to happen. I rationalized this and realized that 80% of the games I have seen info on im just not at all interested in while the other 20% im only vaguely interested in. so I will wait till either a price drop happens of more AAA's release for it. BUT if the last guardian has a vr mode then I will have to pick it up just for the experience.
6. has not happened. I have actually been gradually spending more on games.
7. not going to happen. I looked into disc buffers and the ones that work well enough for my liking are more than I would be willing to spend. and the cheaper ones could possibly do more harm than good.
9. This one is going great! whenever I see a chance to research material and add facts and figures to the forums I take it as a challenge to do so. the only chance I didn't take was in the Disney land thread as there was too much data and I had to make too much data less jumps to add.
11. I really haven't played many nes games this year. I've been more-so playing what friends and family want to play together/see played.
12. I actually recently had to go out and get a 4th bookshelf to hold my ever growing collection. when I finally went and picked up the third I was ale to fill it up 3/4ths of the way to begin with.
13. Gameboy/advanced games are being held in card sleeves in a binder and are on top of my shelves. not really "displayed" like I had intended but at least you can turn through the pages as apposed to rooting through a box. in the future (when I have a house) I plan on putting them in a shadow box so you can see the labels. will take up a crapton of space but will also look really nice.
-
My list wasn't very good to begin with, so I'm going to mid year re-evaluate my list and make changes.
Collecting goals
1. Reach 4000 items in collection [Done]
2. Knock wishlist down to under 50 games [Done, but I'm probably going to add to it soon]
3. Finish building shelves for game room [Update: 1 shelving unit to build and wall shelves]
4. Inventory full collection (including condition) [Done]
5. Clean game rooms and take proper pictures [Update: Handheld Room left, starting over on game room]
Playing goals
1. Beat Ace Combat series [Air Combat + AC2 done]
2. Beat Metal Gear series [Metal Gear/MGSV done]
3. Beat Splinter Cell series [Conviction/Blacklist done]
4. Beat Uncharted series
5. Beat Souls series [Demon's Souls done]
6. Beat 104 games this year (My original goal was 52, but I knew that was too easy) [Update: Sitting at 90 beat right now]
7. Populate my Backloggery account with my backlog.
Update 8/22/2016: I'd say geeeeeezus at me adding several hundred games in about a months time, but I think most of that was attributed to me doing a full inventory.

Gameboy games fit well in Cassette cases, just print out art. GBA games also fit in Cassette cases, but some DS cases have GBA slots, just print out art.
Lynx games work in Cassette cases.
Game gear sucks, but my wife designed custom papercraft "boxes" that work pretty well. Especially in conjunction with the hard plastic clamshell protective cases that came with the games.
Either way, you can usually get DS cases from Gamestop if you ask politely before they toss traded in cases. Cassette cases can be acquired fairly cheap, and display shelves for cassette cases are fairly common too.

Decided to see how I have been doing on my gaming resolutions for 2016 since we are less than two months away from being in 2017. Have done pretty good as far as the collecting goals, but the playing goals...not so much. Most likely I will not be completing these, but I guess I didn't do too bad this year :)
Playing Goals
- Participate and complete the VGcollect 52 games challenge
- Play and beat Dark Souls
- Catch all 721 Pokemon in Pokemon Omega Ruby (I'm at around 500 right now)
- Play Final Fantasy XIII
Collecting Goals
- Hit 1750 games in collection this year
- Obtain at least 15 import games this year
- Get within 5 games of finishing my Wii and 360 collections respectively
- reach 250 PS1 games
- Focus primarily on my PS3 collection, hitting the 200 game mark (currently at 158 PS3 games)

Oops, posted this as if I was planning for next year originally. Sorry. Feel free to delete this.

5. Beat Souls series [Demon's Souls done]

I do this. Not at home, at work, so I snagged this photo from Google, it's not my own collection. These are the 9-pocket trading card pages you use for baseball cards or comic cards or whatever. Put them in a binder, and they're very easy to flip through, too.

Works great for GB, GBC, GBA, and Neo Geo Pocket Color games.
For DS and 3DS, I have one of those Club Nintendo cases, I'd imagine you can find some on eBay:

this is actually much cheaper for storing loose ds/3ds games the only problem with it is if you store 3ds games in it because of the tab it requires you to turn them so the other side is always upside down.
but for $2 as apposed to $20 I think its worth it.
