I've had this issue a couple times now and it looks like I have to submit information at certain times of day when a certain admin is on to approve correct information. There have been times when some of my stuff gets denied and it's correct information coming directly from my personal collection. Here are some examples:
1. I edited the Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection item number from "BLUS 83009L" to "BLUS-83009L" as all entries are and it was denied.
2. I personally scanned the back of the box art for MGS: TLC and uploaded it to the database and it was denied.
3. I input the correct barcode from my personal copy of MGS: TLC (NTSC) and it was denied.
4. My description for Dragon Ball Z: Raging Blast 2 was denied - all I did was go into details about first print copies and second print copy differences and that was denied.
5. I edited the page I created of Dragon Ball Z: Raging Blast 2 to change the name to Dragon Ball Z: Raging Blast 2 (First print) because my personal copy and the details were for first print.
5. The item number for DBZ:RB2 was denied even though it came directly from my copy
EDIT: After doing some looking around it seems my DBZ:RB2 entry was deleted and replaced with another entry, I'll try uploaded the data there.

I didn't work on any of those but just wanted to mention that we usually don't include variants for different printings unless there is a different artwork or if it's a launch bundle. If the first print includes something like a poster tucked into the case, I will just note that detail in the description field.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but we also allow different entries for physical variations of the media, no? (5 or 3 screw carts, yellow tabbed EA Genesis games, different disc colors, etc.)

Well, in DBZ's case, first print has different music. Second print changed it due to a composer stealing music. I created a first print page for DBZ, so it'll have to be removed.
Now that the DBZ thing is settled, what's up with MGS?

Correct :) usually if there's some sort of change to the cart/disc or other visual change, a variant is allowed. In regard to the music change, I'm not sure.
Only other thing I can think of is that if we're noting some sort of infringement in the description field, we want to make sure that it's worded in an objective way. Can say something like "First print copies include music later removed in later prints" or something like that, if it seems appropriate.

Yeah, I worded it as a scandal rather than flat out saying a composer stole the music. I'd like to hear why the MGS info was denied by whoever denied it. This would be easier if it said what staff approved or denied an entry with a reason other than a stock reason pointing you to the style guide.

Double post - remove this entry and just drop the original in my collection if the music thing could just be mentioned in the description: http://vgcollect.com/item/103216

I denied the Metal Gear edits because the info as presented in the database exists as an item. Your edits, if approved, would have changed that existing item into a different one. So the edits were rejected.
Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection with artbook (in db) vs without artbook (what you tried to enter).
For the DB game (it is not titled DBZ), the one you did edits for was previously run through as a dupe. So the edits were rejected because they didn't apply to anything anymore. Now that the game is re-added, all if fine, although I do not like "first print" in the name. Is there no other physical difference on the case or disc to differentiate from the other version?

I figured out the DBZ thing, that was my fault. I have the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection in my collection (without artbook, didn't even know a variant came with it), and I uploaded the back of the box art to that database. Not sure how that was wrong. I didn't upload any sort of artbook photo to an MGS Legacy Collection entry.

Sometimes, someone's intention behind an update isn't 100% clear. It's not your fault or the admin's. We currently don't have a field for users to input information about their intention, so unfortunately for now we have to talk about it on the forums like you did now. It's a feature that will eventually come, though.

Artbook version and w/o have different part numbers and barcodes.

I submitted all information from my "without artbook" copy to the entry that doesn't have the art book as well as the correct photos. Still not sure what was incorrect about it since I was editing the right entry with a game from my personal collection. Didn't get the info online.

This topic is moot now, because the original record has been changed!
The original record had barcode 083717202721, which indicated it was the version with artbook. Then mrfoxhound tried to change the barcode to 083717202950 which I rejected. It was rejected because 083717202721 was not wrong. In this situation, a user should not change an existing item to become a different one. They should instead leave that record be and create a new one. If anything, the original record should have its title and description changed to accurately reflect what it is.
So what has happened now is that 250 users may now have the wrong item in their collection because it was changed from one thing to another.
I have removed the back image and reverted the barcode back to 083717202721.

I just did a quick check, and I'll verify with my own copy as well.
It appears that there are multiple UPC for the Legacy collection. If you check ebay there are at least 3 different UPC. I have seen copies that don't include the artbook with the same UPC as the artbook, but that might not mean anything.
He listed 083717202950 which I've seen. But I've also seen 083717202943. And I've seen 083717202721 with launch material and without.

I'm not stressing it anymore, I just created a new entry for it.

I was more pointing out that there is three records now, instead of 2.

Yeah, that happens when you tell someone "They should instead leave that record be and create a new one" instead of using a comma to add another UPC to an existing page in order to avoid multiple entries.

I'm certain that the database is not formatted to accept multiple entries for a field. Also, different UPCs do generally mean different products. In some manner.

What do you suggest we do? Changing the the info isn't allowed, adding other barcodes and item numbers to an existing entry with a comma to separate them isn't allowed and now you're making a stink out of multiple entries despite them having different item numbers and barcodes. There seems to be no consensus here in the community. You guys have to make up your mind. Constantly dealing with stuff like this has discouraged me from editing any more entries on this website. It seems as if the database staff isn't even in sync with the database rules since they're approving things that apparently aren't supposed to be approved. That's how we get into a mess like this. I do something that keeps getting approved and I figure what I'm doing is correct, then one gets denied and I wonder why and then we find out it was wrong all along.

MY SUGGESTION? I'd say we determine what is the real difference between the 3 UPCs, and have 3 different listings if they are indeed different. From what I've seen though, the 3 different UPCs don't have different information or formatting on the back art.
I think, that if the 3 UPC's have different information, it should be 3 different items and they should be identified as such. MGS:LC Launch edition, second print, third print.
I'll do more research and identify differences if I can.

I doubt you'll find any difference that warrants multiple entries but here's my entry copy to help you just in case:

All 3 look identical to me. The only differences are right at the barcode.

And the item numbers ;)

And the item numbers ;)
Sure but he's talking about the back art differences, not the spine where the item numbers are displayed. Unless you're talking about the numbers displayed above the bardcode and if that's the item number then gee, we've been inputting incorrect info in the database the entire time. ;)

If a item is different put it in the database. You might not see what others can see. And a different upc is a difference. My gues is a reprint, but here [EU] you can see the (different copyright) year on the package, and i dont see it with the links in this thread atm.
Edit:
btw, dont edit so much, i thought i read something different first.

Thanks for clearing up that dilemma and contributing to this thread, a mod can now close this thread since you figured it out for us.
