The Subject says it all, What is the Rarest Game You Own?
The Rarest Game I own is Mario Party 2 for the Nintendo 64, it also happens to be my personal favorite Mario Party.
-
I don't own any super rare games. Mine are probably a toss up of the below.
Sega GaGa - Dreamcast
Blackthorne, World Series Baseball, and Pitfall - 32x
Any of the SG-1000 games.
Nothing too standout. But I have all of the rare 32X games minus Spiderman for the NA set. Then Sega GaGa and the SG-1000 games are readily found on eBay. But I don't think many exist.
-
Rarest per console:
Gamecube- Pokemon Box: Ruby & Sapphire CIB w/ Link Cable and Memory Card
Wii- Dokapon Kingdom CIB first print/ Fritz Chess
3DS- Fire Emblem Fates SE/ Cave Story 3D w/ slipcover
DS: Solatorobo Big Box CIB
PS3: Under Defeat HD Deluxe Edition/ Class of Heroes 2G
X360: Dodonpachi 5's SLE
Saturn: Dragon Force
Dreamcast: TriggerHeart Excelica LE
PS1: Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete CE/ Arc the Lad Collection CE
There's a bunch of other stuff that is pricey, not due to rarity but due more to demand like FE: Path of Radiance.
-
Hikaru No Go Taikenban from Konami. 555 copies exist.
-
Reportedly 450 were ever made and for NA only. They were only won through various contests held by Sony or other 3rd party.

-
Saturday Morning RPG with soundtrack. (PS4)
Ducktales 2 (NES)
-
Have no idea how rare they are, but here are a few I have that are very hard to find:
- Ni No Kuni Wizard Edition (PS3 - NTSC/US version)
- Demon's Souls Deluxe Edition (PS3)
- The Misadventures of Tron Bonne (PS1)
- Blood Will Tell (PS2)
- Illbleed (Dreamcast)
- Shenmue Limited Edition (Dreamcast)
-
Rule of Rose, PT, and Kuon, probably. Most of the rare stuff in my collection are swag and merchandise items.
-
I don't own any super rare items either, I've got the NA Master System Castle of Illusion, Metal Slug 4 and 5 on the AES as well as Mark of the Wolves on the AES. Of consoles I do have an FM Towns Marty and a NA Amiga Cd32. That's all I can think of the "rare" stuff though
-
I have a few very rare games for the Atari 2600. Probably the rarest of them all is a programming cartridge called the Magicard. At one point it was the rarest 2600 title out there. It was only available as a catalog mail in order, so not many were sold. Other Atari 2600 rarities in my collection include Color Bar Generator (another programming tool), and Off Your Rocker.
-
So many games don't have explicit print numbers so it's hard to tell what's really rare other than the for certain stuff.
It's really easy to say what's your most expensive items, but I don't know what would be my rarest.
-
Probably this : http://vgcollect.com/ElectTheDesert/gamecubedemo
The demo itself isn't THAT rare, but sealed, there's one from time to time that pops on eBay.
-
Judge Dredd Demo - Sega Genesis: http://vgcollect.com/item/47764

I own Saturday Morning RPG as well as the soundtrack cd and I also own a first-print copy of Retro City Rampage DX (the one that had 2000 copies) for PS4. I also own The House of the Dead for Sega saturn which apparently had a print run of 30,000 seeing as it was a late in life release.
-

This is kind of how I feel about things.
I guess stuff like the games in my Saturn collection, Rule of Rose and Haunting Ground are the picks off the top of my head?
-
Nothing "rare" in my collection.
-
Complete in box Arcadia 2001 and a bunch of complete/sealed Arcadia 2001 games?
-
Probably my sealed copy of Gamecube Twilight Princess. And... MAYBE my copy of rule of rose? The problem is that it's broken, like, completely broken.
-
My 5-screw copy of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
Sure MTPO isn't that big of a deal. However, there are only 15 or so 5-screw copies that anyone knows about. It's arguably more rare than Stadium Events.
Other than that... Little Samson? A CIB copy of Wally Bear and the No Gang? Those are Probably the hardest to find that I have.
-
I'll just name off a few that I know are "pricey", rarity is one of the most loosely used terms in this hobby.
-Demon's Souls Deluxe Edition (PS3)
-Little Samson (NES)
-Earthbound (SNES)
-Mega Man X3 (SNES)
-Haunting Ground (PS2)
-Teen Titans (Xbox)
-
I probably have a lot of "Rare" titles even if they are extreamly cheap just because if I have NEVER heard of it or the source material for it or have never seen a copy before (real life or online, im better at remembering pictures/artwork than titles) I will pick it up.
as for rarest known item it will have to be either one of the limited run games titles (I have them all) or if you mean any game then a hack of pokemon red my brother worked on and put on a cart back when he was interested in game design (only 1 in existence)
-
Everything CIB bought during the time of the official release.
Tales of Destiny - Playstation
Team Buddies - Playstation
Kirby Dream Land 3 - Super Nintendo
Contra 3: The Alien War - Super Nintendo
Gotcha Force - GameCube
Tech Romancer - Dreamcast
Cannon Spike - Dreamcast
Gitaroo Man - PlayStation2
Cubivore - GameCube
Pikmin 2 - GameCube
-
Either Final Fantasy III CIB in Near Mint condition or Final Fantasy I & II Premium Package CIB
(https://i.imgur.com/KIeaUBW.jpg)

5200 - Sports Goofy & Looney Tunes Hotel (2 original prototype games never released)
7800 - Ninja Golf or Midnight Mutants
JAG - Missile Command 3D?
LYNX - Double Dragon? (Atariage rated it a 7 rarity)
OTHER
ODY2 - Power Lords
ASTROCADE - Sneaky Snake
INTV - Diner
CV - Campaign '84
3DO - Any of the "adult" titiles; Plumper's Don't Wear Ties, Sex, The Coven etc
CDi - Link the Faces of Evil?
AES - Ninja Masters
NeoCD - Magican Lord
MVS - Prehistoric Isle 2
T16 - Bonk 3
T16CD - Dynastic Hero
I might have something "rarer" then whats on this list, but this is what I could think of.
There's other oddball consoles I could list, but most would say (anything on this system is rare) lol
-
I don't think many of my games are all that rare, though I've got so many one or two may be hidden away.
Off the top of my head I'd say maybe Suikoden 2, Sealed Conker 64, Sealed Zelda Windwaker, Sealed Smash Melee, Sealed Castlevania SotN, Sealed Resident Evil 3, and almost all of the 'rare' original Xbox games.
Console wise I know I've got a few. Toshiba Nuon Player, Pioneer LaserActive, N64 DD. But the rarest would be a complete in box Apple Pippin @World with all accessories.
-
hmm let's see, nothing too rare, like a few others they main go for high prices rather than being difficult to find.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, also Fates Limited Edition (I'm still pissed that Nintendo let that happen: there's limited, then there's idiotic!)
-
Mega Man Legends 2, on PS1.
But I've never been one to collect for rarity, I collect to play, I REALLY wanted to play Mega Man Legends 2. But I bought a low-cost, beat-up disc-only copy and got it resurfaced, so it's not really a "collectible" item, anyways.
-
Physical Copy of "El Chavo Kart" for the Xbox 360
Only thing I can think up at this time.
-
Not so so rare but kinda hard to find pieces I own:
Saturn PAL Panzer Dragoon Saga

Most of the scarcer games in my collection are older PC and home computer titles. It's hard to believe the likes of Spectrum, C64, Amiga and others sold millions of copies of games considering how hard they are to find now. Old PC stuff in particular is extremely difficult to find in the wild.
-
@turom: Daaaaamn, the PAL version of Panzer Dragoon Saga is gorgeous. That's a keeper!
-
I have a copy of Pac-Man for Neo Geo Pocket. Which isn't so rare, but instructions are personally signed by Toru Iwatani during Games Week 2015 in Milan.

I purposely did not mention any computer games. They exist in a market that has very few collectors in it, and where a lot of releases are not documented. They fall into the "uncommon to find for sale, unknown value attached" category of things. Things that have a value, but the demand is so low that it has no market value. Thus having the appearance of being rare.
-
Yeah, it's extremely difficult to guess what the production run might have been on a lot of them so adding the effect of them being culled by time makes it even trickier. It's great to come across games you haven't even heard of complete and in good condition.
For consoles my rarer/more valuable titles would be some sealed EU Wii games (M. Prime trilogy, Klonoa, some others), Rule of Rose PS2 (French), a combination of Essential Games/505 Games PS2 releases and some of the more obscure titles in my PS1 library (stuff like Azure Dreams, Eternal Eyes, Tron Bonne, Devil's Deception). I have a few Limited Run games (playing Breach & Clear Deadline and loving it!), as well as some other obscure Wii titles like Dokapon Kingdom (German) and several others.
-
As others have said, I mainly collect for the games and not for the rarity, so I don't really pursue rare stuff. However, I was able to get a few high-priced games before they went up in value, especially some of the SNES stuff which I bought online just before they really shot up.
NES - Mega Man 6, S.C.A.T., Shadow of the Ninja, Shatterhand
SNES - Castlevania Dracula X, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Captain Commando, Mega Man 7, Mega Man X 1-3
GB - Mega Man V
PS1 - Castlevania Chronicles, Arc the Lad Collection, Lunar Eternal Blue Complete
N64 - Clay Fighter 63 1/3: Sculptor's Cut
Gamecube - Twilight Princess
Dreamcast - Garou: Mark of the Wolves
Saturn - (all Japanese imports) X-Men vs SF, Marvel Super Heroes vs SF, Vampire Savior
I also have a handful of Nintendo Game & Watches, including Zelda
Here's a pic I took last year...

I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I own Super Noah's Ark 3D
-
The most expensive game I own is a mint complete copy of Team Buddies for Ps1, I believe it's fairly rare. I've been able to track down a lot of the rarer ps1 games the last few years and I'm attempting to get more as the prices have begin to jump drastically. Some games have jumped 200-400% in the past 6 months alone.
Oh and I do have a copy of Rule of Rose for ps2, picked it up for cheap back when Gamestop was clearancing ps2 stuff. Probably my best score in pure value.
In terms of most unusual/rare item, I have a copy of Blast Chamber for Ps1 that looks normal at first glance, but when you boot it up, the game Street Racer PS1 loads instead. The disc looks legit but there must have been a pressing error before release that mixed the two games up. I have not been able to find much information on this disc through google. I got it through a retro store that didn't even try the game out, otherwise they would have had the same bizarre reaction I had.
-
I'm not really sure, there's a fair amount of stuff I own I haven't really seen much of but when you're in the UK and most rarity guides are for American releases it's kind of hard to work out what is and isn't rare in my collection.
I don't know if it's my actual rarest but the gem of my collection is probably my Panzer Dragoon Saga. I won it in an Ebay auction for about £150 and it's in fantastic quality. I was really surprised when it turned up how well kept it is.
Definitely not rare per se but quite pricey, I have The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past complete on SNES.
I have the first Lunar game on PS1, I don't think it's as valuable as Panzer Dragoon Saga but it's probably worth mentioning. It's especially hard to get over here without importing.
I also have a big box edition of Final Fantasy VIII on PS1, I don't know if it's rare but it seems to sell for a fair bit and I've really struggled to find out anything about it. I've found a few sale listings for it but that's about it.
Also I don't have it yet but I've backed Bloodstained and got the signed Collector's Edition tier, so that will probably be the rarest game I own once it's released.
I might have more impressive stuff than that but I'm not sure how to find out. I like to buy up the more sought after games on consoles but as far as I can tell the above are the most valuable.
-
Tomba and Tomba 2 I'd have to say are my rarest.
-
@turom: Daaaaamn, the PAL version of Panzer Dragoon Saga is gorgeous. That's a keeper!
That's my favorite piece in my collection! (more pics (http://imgur.com/a/TeQyk))
And the sweet thing is by unlocking it with the correct AR code it runs in NTSC mode on a NTSC Saturn, exactly like an US version, but with that glorious packaging.

Is Rarity guide a good site to check rarity? Some of the numbers don't look quite right.
-
A lot of people seem to confound rarity with value. Sure, a lot of rare games are also valuable, but a game's rarity (ie, how difficult it is to find) really has nothing to do with how valuable it is.
-

I.E. Earthbound.

I think it hasn't been updated since 2013.

To be fair i've seen more copies of panzer dragoon Saga than I have Earthbounds in person
-
I personally do not consider PDS or Earthbound to be rare. It is fine if either of those is the rarest game someone has.
As an example, searching Ebay (US)
earthbound snes -import = 260 results
panzer dragoon saga saturn -import = 22 results
compare to say...
mvp baseball 2005 pc = 1 result
There certainly was a time when Earthbound and PDS were rare games. Those days are long gone. PDS wins the rarity prize in the US due to the percentage of Saturn vs SNES sales. With the advent of the internet, these titles are merely uncommon. They retain their high price not because they are rare, but because they were once rare.
-
In Earthbound's case, it wasn't ever really rare. I mean it did have a smaller print run compared to a lot of other games, but I think the main problem was that nobody bought it. When I bought my copy on clearance way back in the day, there were piles of them that nobody wanted. I should have bought them all...
-
Crisis Force
Doki Doki Panic
Wrecking Crew '98
GameCube Demo Disc Version 12
Pac-Man Vs. (JPN Club Nintendo)
Konami Krazy Racers
Tingle's Balloon Fight DS
Char's Customized GameCube

My two "rarest" games I own (I know the games aren't that rare, but these promo editions are):
Rule of Rose Promo version
(http://i.imgur.com/hJvDSyR.jpg)
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne Promo version (these promos were limited to Europe only):

don't collect rare game unless they are any good
I think my rarest are since they are actually not easy to find and not always available like other games such as panzer dragoon saga.
All Pal european versions
ghosts n goblins gameboy color cib pal
megaman xtreme gameboy color cib pal
covert command ps2 ukv
shin megami tensei devil summoner 1 ukv pal factory sealed
tengai ukv factory sealed
yoshi's island guide combo pack UK exclusive SNES
just to name a few that I can remember owning
Not super rare but they are definitely not always available
-
my rarest games are probably my Megaman 2 thru 5 still in box with book and my Ducktales 2 CIB. I got those for X-mas every year when I was a kid. We were poor and we brought up to always take care of everyone I got. Probably my original 2600 still works to this day.
-
I don't have anything that is actually too rare. I think my hardest to find is probably Mega Man X2. A few more uncommon things, Cave Story 3D with the slip cover, Fire Emblem Fates Collector's Edition. My Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is sealed and autographed by the voice cast. Complete in Box Super Star Wars Trilogy. Cool stuff, but nothing really rare.
If we were to look at groups of things:
I have full Virtual Boy set, except for Super Jack Bros.
-
It's a difficult question to answer. I suppose the best way to find out would be to find the game in your VG Collect that has the smallest amount of "in collection" statuses on the site. Of course, that wouldn't really work for modern as it takes time for newer games to be collected.
The rarest game I have is probably some obscure game that no one has ever heard of. Sought after is a bit different than rare. Rare is when there are so few, that not many people actually have one, and of course sought after being when a game is coveted by virtually everyone but there isn't an abundance of them floating around.
-
Found 3 copies of Class of Heroes 2G today being sold at MSRP. I bought all of them and come to find there are variants to this game which is already really rare. Two are B-variants and one is a C. I'm trading one of the B-variants, but I'm not sure what to do about keeping one of each variant or just keeping one.
Just thought I'd post this since Class of Heroes 2G is considered one of the rarest PS3 games.
-
I don't know if this has anything to do with rarity, but I seem to be the only person on this site with the PC game Voyeur in my collection. Seriously, if you go to the game's entry page, it lists it in only 1 collection - mine. It doesn't seem to be worth much, though, so it can't be too rare. I guess there's just not many people who bought this crap game :p
-
TBF, I don't believe items show up as in someone's collection if they mark their collection as private. So you can't really trust those numbers.
-

I've seen items in private collections
The numbers are actually correct since the name does appear but when clicked on it you cannot enter their collection
http://vgcollect.com/item/45511
Take shinobi x for example magelock has shinobi x but also a private collection when clicked on it.
I've seen it on some of the more rare items wich I have. I've seen it plenty of times however if one person has say 100 copies of a game from only one person it counts as only 1 unless you click on it to see how many copies there actuall are.
-

It isn't. PC game collectors appear to be in small number. Also considering the amount of variations present, it is not suprising to have 1 or few members having a PC game in their collection. PC games fall into the "uncommon to find for sale, unknown value attached" category I mentioned earlier.
-

I have Voyeur in my PC collection but have yet to finish adding all of my PC games, barely started on them tbh. Hard to add PC games as well since there are so many variations, some games came as 3.5, 5.25 and/or cd-rom which can make it somewhat annoying to track a big box pc collection. I think I've not yet added 10 games so far and almost all of them I had to add to the db since my variant wasn't yet added.

huh? no way. i have this too... i bought it MONTHS after release... saw it at gamestop and just picked it up on massive discount.. i wouldn't be able to tell you the cost now, but i think it was $80 after discounts. there's no way only 450 were made, of a series that sells WAY more than hyperdimension neptunia, yet the limit-1000 limited edition of HDN re;birth 1 sold out in less than one minute... i don't know who ever told you that there was only 450... but they're absolutely ridiculous. unless you just mean the 'not for resale' serial... but otherwise, i see NO difference between that one and the one sold through GS. i could even take a pic of the helghast helmet and sniper figurine if you wanted to verify... granted, my sniper has, ahem, smoke damage.
speaking of that HDN:
i own this bad boy. i use the case and phone strap. no regrets.
other than that i don't think many of my games are too rare that i know of... maybe super mario RPG on SNES? i got that one from my parents for c hristmas one year.
and maybe darksiders 2 limited edition (PS3)... with the comic book intact? and the paper sleeve?
the world ends with you... CIB?
??
i don't know if anything else is rare.
-
I have Panzer Dragoon Saga for Sega Saturn. Got it for $150+ about 15 years ago. It costs three times as much nowadays.
-
Forgot to add one in my original post.
I have a green button (first print run) CIB Steel Battalion on the XBOX. I think there are only about 2000 of these.

That's funny because I used to have two of them as well. I local game store had them in the back and apparently the owner didn't want to bother trying to sell them so he sold both to be for $50 total. I traded one of them away about a year ago for some games to another collector.
-
I'm not sure about rarity vs. value but from a value standpoint it would appear to be my Vectrex system.
My most rare/valuable game would have to be either my complete copy of Splatterhouse 2 for the Genesis, complete boxed Super Metroid for the SNES or my complete boxed Conker's Bad Fur Day for the N64.
