If there is a new category or platform that you would like to see in the database, request it here. Please only request categories/platforms that you actually own items/games for. We don't want to fill up the database with empty categories. All requests will be researched by the staff, and added if we feel it is necessary.
We'll update this main post each time we add new categories.

Could Amiibo be made its own category?
-
Hi everybody, I hope I didn't miss anything, but as I read in old posts that there won't be a separate platform entry for Origin, would it be possible to create a platform PC - Digital Download (EU)?
-
Is CN China? I thought the only form of N64 that went to China was the iQue Player.
-
There's an Xbox [CN] game in the Xbox [JP] Category. Wanted to let you guys know in case you would like to make the cat for it; it's just one game though.
Fable: The Lost Chapters [CN] - http://vgcollect.com/item/92273
-
Yeah, CN = China
I don't know why the database named it CN instead of AS for ASIA - since many were actually released in HK/Taiwan.
JP (Japan) gets its own category which is normal and understandable but many games are now also getting an Asia version (which often supports multi-language)
-
CN is China indeed. Almost all categories are named CN, so for the same of consistency the recent ones were added as such. However, some light search seemed to indicate that "Asia" (or AS) could be better indeed.
As far as N64 [CN] goes, it had been requested for this game specifically, which has the N64 logo and everything:
http://vgcollect.com/item/63551
I don't know more than that, though.
-
Category "PlayStation Network (Vita)" should be "PlayStation Network (Vita) [NA]"
Also, to match everything else shouldn't "PlayStation Vita [US]" be "PlayStation Vita [NA]"?
-

PlayStation Network is a mess :'( There are things to change around in there, but the cross-buy makes it more complicated to manage. A brainstorm over this is in order.

I suppose it is, but I'm just referring to the name of the categories.
Also, cross-buy is the equivalent of owning multiple copies of a game.
On a separate note, I'd like to petition that we split the "Xbox Games Store (X360) [NA]" category back to "Xbox Live Indies [NA]", "Xbox Live Arcade [NA]", and "Xbox Live Games on Demand [NA]". Browsing through the Xbox Games Store (360) category is madness. At least splitting out the Indies category would be fantastic since it's a dead category and you can no longer purchase these titles.
Also, changing (XbOne) to (X1) or (XB1)
-
I don't know why the database named it CN instead of AS for ASIA
China and Asia have separate releases for a lot of different platforms.
Forward looking, as I keep going along with the Game Gear stuff, I will need these at some point soon so I can add games into them:
Sega Game Gear [BR)
Sega Game Gear [KR]
For Brazil and Korea
EDIT: Aparently, our standard method for listing country codes is conflicting with the forum software, as our code for Brazil stands for (line)Break. See above where I have a typo on purpose.
-
This is a small request, but I thought I would ask here for the dual ESRB ratings to be added, for games like:
Rare Replay (E-M) http://vgcollect.com/item/85758
Jak and Daxter Collection on PS3 (E-T) http://vgcollect.com/item/24018
There are also demo games that have the RP-T or RP-M rating.
GameCube Preview Disc - http://vgcollect.com/item/11079
-
Also, cross-buy is the equivalent of owning multiple copies of a game.
The problem with entering it once under each system is that you either end up with 2 items in your collection that are really just one (say, the PS3 + the PS4 versions), or you just choose one to log in your collection but can't see at a glance that you own it on the other system too. I haven't found anything that doesn't have such a drawback yet :-\
As far as Xbox Live Indies go, the issue they caused is the same that can be currently seen under PS1 Classics and the likes. Each game could be logically placed under both Xbox Live AND Indies, which causes problems when someone browses by category, and makes a lot of people create duplicates. If most people feel that they prefer Indies separately and have a suggestion on how to keep it clean so as not to create confusion, this can be thought over once more. However, before making the change we created a thread asking about it, and the answers were mostly agreeing towards merging the categories like it was done.
Also I think I sounded like I didn't agree with the PlayStation Vita categories renaming that you mentioned, but I only forgot to add them to the list! Sorry about that. They're pending until the next work session.
This is a small request, but I thought I would ask here for the dual ESRB ratings to be added, for games like:
I added the ones you mentioned to the pending list, if you find more to be added please let me know! I can't find a list of the existing ones, so I guess they'll have to be added when found.

Rename category "TRS-80 [NA]" to "Tandy TRS-80 [NA]" to match how the Hardware category is named.
And lastly, time to split up the PC [NA] section like the older micros are done.
- PC 5.25" Diskette [NA]
- PC 3.5" Diskette [NA]
- PC CD-ROM [NA]
- PC DVD-ROM [NA]
At least for [NA] to start and do the same for other countries later. For ease of use, you would probably just rename PC [NA] to PC CD-ROM [NA] and add the other 3 sections as empty categories to move the appropriate items into.

I can assure you that even if we use the metric system, we still call it a 5.25" and 3.5" disk in Europe :)

Yep, even tv's, tablets, etc are sold in inches now.
-
Yeah, it was always "five and a quarter inch disk" for 5.25 disk games here in the UK at least. Might a 3.5/5.25" dual format category be possible? several games were released with both formats in one box during the transition period, one of which I'll be adding to my own collection soon (D/Generation).
Can I put a request in for Acorn Electron please? It's a cut-down BBC Microcomputer in essence, though some games were released as solely BBC Model B, some were released solely as Electron and many were released as both.
-
Is the most commonly used name "floppy disk" or "diskette", or both are used as much? Currently the Commodore 64 and Atari 8-bit computers have them listed as Floppy Disk and it's best to keep consistency, but if nobody calls them floppy disks anyway then it's better if they're labeled differently.
-
Sega Pico [NA] is under Sega Other instead of Sega Pico.

I would vote for calling them "floppy disk"

Didn't any PC games utilize the 8-inch floppy? What category does a PC game fall under that came packaged with both 5.25 & 3.5-inch disks? There were many during the diskette-size transition period. I would like to know since I haven't entered my PC games yet.

I am sure there are games on 8" floppy somewhere. Thinking now, the 5.25" should be labelled Floppy Disk while the 3.5" is a diskette.
But this is why it is in discussion phase. There is also not a way to handle games that came with 3.5" and CD, or CD and DVD or Hybrid media.
A hybrid media example is one where it supports multiple platforms, usually on CD. This is where a game is released that can be used both on a Mac, Windows and/or Linux, such as Quake Gold.
In my own opinion, I would say that if a game comes with both 3.5" and 5.25" disks it would be put into the 3.5" category. As with any disk based PC game, the description field should be used to mark how many disks came in the package, what type and what they say on them. For now we will all have to decide how best to handle it. Having separate categories isn't the optimal way to do this anyways... but that is a whole other ball of wax! :)

I would like to see an update/renaming to the Atari 8-Bit Computer category along the line with i.e. the Commodore 64 category.
This is what it looks like today
Atari 8-bit Computer
Atari 8-Bit Computer (Cartridges)
Atari 8-Bit Computer (Cassette Tapes)
Atari 8-Bit Computer (Floppy Disks)
Atari 8-Bit Computer Accessory
Atari 8-Bit Computer Hardware
This is a proposal for how it could look
Atari 8-Bit Computer <-- Rename to "Atari 8-Bit Computer", notice the upper case B in 8-Bit
Atari 8-Bit Computer Accessory <-- No change
Atari 8-Bit Computer Cartridges [EU] <-- Remove brackets and rename existing category to [EU]
Atari 8-Bit Computer Cartridges [NA] <-- Create new category
Atari 8-Bit Computer Cassettes [EU] <-- Remove brackets, rename existing category to "Cassettes [EU]"
Atari 8-Bit Computer Cassettes [NA] <-- Create new category, call it "Cassettes" instead of "Casette Tapes"
Atari 8-Bit Computer Floppy Disks [EU] <-- Create new category
Atari 8-Bit Computer Floppy Disks [NA] <-- Remove brackets, rename existing category to [NA]
Atari 8-Bit Computer Hardware <-- No change
*edit: after checking the collectors/releases in the different categories above it seems that the releases already in the database is mostly European, that is why it seems more reasonable to change the existing categories to [EU] and create new ones for [NA]
-
I kindly request that we rename the "Xbox Live (XbOne) [NA]" Category to match "Xbox Games Store (X360) [NA]"
So I suggest changing "Xbox Live (XbOne) [NA]" to "Xbox Games Store (X1) [NA]" Alternatively (XOne), the camel case look of XbOne drives me nuts.
Same would apply to "Xbox Live (XbOne) [EU]"

Were the carts or content different in any way between regions? If there is no difference between NA and EU, no reason to segregate them.

Yes, the content was different between NA and EU. The same game often had different publishers/artwork in North America vs Europe

I agree with that. We should segregate the EU and NA regions, because there are significant differences between the EU/NA editions (despite the fact a number of different editions in Europe alone).

Need Sega Dreamcast Brazil.
-
*Blink* was Acorn Electron always there in the database or has one of you wonderful people added it recently?
It was added sometime after your request :)
Ah, many thanks to whoever uploaded it and for your response Karyann. :D
Sorry to be a nuisance but could I put a few other requests in please?
In the user stats screen, under 'collection breakdown', my Electron listings (15 of them) are counted as separate to the rest of my games (currently 1050), so does a box need ticking behind the scene to qualify them as games?
Would it be possible to have a dual-format option for BBC Micro and Acorn Electron please? Many games were released with both formats on one cassette, for example: (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/da/Tomcat_cassette_front_cover_(BBC-Electron).png)
Despite this, many games were released separately on both formats or only on one format. Even Acornsoft themselves had different packaging for their games on the two systems, compare (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HstCfmc8oA4/UPj3v-LF1FI/AAAAAAAABKw/MBD-rfGwYzI/s1600/Cover-Acornsoft-Hopper.jpg) (BBC Micro version of Hopper) with (http://new.whiteinternet.com/images/acornsoft-hopper.jpg) (Acorn Electron version of Hopper).
A lot of sites lump the two together, which I get in a way, but they both have their own unique games. Many thanks!
-
For dual format, a primary one needs to be picked. For example, if the game supports 2 systems, you add it to the newer system's category.
-
The Electron is a derivative of the BBC microcomputer series, so is newer, but most sites I've seen consider the BBC the primary model so refer to them as BBC + Electron games. Not sure what to suggest TBH.
-
Need GameCube [AU]
I suppose put games into [EU] category for now?
http://vgcollect.com/item/99377
-
Sorry tripredacus, that went over my head, is what you're saying that rather than a new category being added, I should just add the dual format games to an existing category? If that's so, I'll just add future BBC/Electron games to the Electron category as that was released after the BBC.
-
Yes in the case of an Electron game, it may well work on a BBC. But it was sold as an Electron game yes?
Whichever category you find best to put it in, but certainly don't add the game into more than 1 category. Note in the Description that the game also works on the other system.
-
It's difficult to say which market the dual-format games are aimed at.
The Electron is effectively a cut-down BBC microcomputer, it would be like Sega releasing the Genesis then later removing and downgrading components and releasing the resultant Master System (or equivalent).
The BBC Micro was aimed as being an educational machine and had high specs which priced it out the range of many households, so to compete with the likes of the ZX Spectrum the cut-down Electron was released as a games and general purpose machine. I'm no expert, but I suspect the dual format games were originally designed for the BBC and then rendered more simplistic for the Electron, though they could be created independently.
Currently Electron is listed as a sub-category of BBC, I would propose rolling with that and listing dual-format games as being BBC and noting Electron in the notes as you suggest. Does that sound good?
-
Go with what you feel. When we get more people into that platform, then those collectors can help decide how they should be listed.
-
Sounds good, I can start now with some consistency :D I'm very happy to fall inline with whatever the community decides in the future. Thanks for your input on this.

VR Oculus Rift. I don't know if this is considered a platform or just as a pheriphiral
HTC VIVE. Same thing!
Dunno if it's the main platform or just an over expensive controller!? :P

I'm not very knowledgeable on the Oculus Rift, but my understanding is that it's a peripheral. If that's the case, I think it should go under PC, like the Kinect is under Xbox 360. ???

I did some digging around and it looks like this topic has come up before...
http://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,4796.0.html
Retromangia was asking a few years back where to put things like CD-i Video CD movies and music. At the time Foxhack advised him to hold off until Matt put in specific categories for them. In that time those sections haven't been added so I'm curious if the following categories be requested...
CD-i Video CD (Music & Movies) [NA]
CD-i Video CD (Music & Movies) [EU]
From the looks of it, some movies and music have already made their way into the database:
Found in [NA]

I'm sitting on a handful of movies that don't have entries yet such as Wayne's World, the Addams Family, Forrest Gump, Posse, Sliver and several others as well as some that I'm aware of but don't own such as The Firm and Robocop 3. I think one stickler the last time this was brought up was that these are Video CDs and can be used on devices that accept the format (I have used them on my Hitachi Saturn that has a DV card) however they are packaged in a similar vein as CD-i specific titles so I think it best if they went under that Platform. :)
-
Man, I hate to even bring this up, because I'm afraid this is going to be a headache. Honestly hope someone tells me this has already been addressed & I've just overlooked where it's supposed to go. :P
Playstation 2 games playable on the PS4. Where the heck do they go? We have a Playstation 2 Classics category, but now there are 2 sets of Classics - those only playable on the PS3, and those only playable on the PS4. So do we go "Playstation 2 Classics (PS3) [NA]" and "Playstation 2 Classics (PS4) [NA]"? ???

We have a Playstation 2 Classics category, but now there are 2 sets of Classics - those only playable on the PS3, and those only playable on the PS4. So do we go "Playstation 2 Classics (PS3) [NA]" and "Playstation 2 Classics (PS4) [NA]"? ???
Yeah, those and cross-buy games are REALLY a headache. I've been trying to figure something out for a while now, and I really don't know. :-\
I personally don't like the "Playstation 2 Classics" and other sub-categories, at all. IMO they make everything confusing since they can legitimately be put under PSN or PS2 Classics, leading to multiple dupes and edits to change them back and forth between categories.
There's always the cross-buy games problem in the end, though. >:(
+1 for the kitty gif making things better! :)
-
Ugh, I agree. I hate how the current PSN categories are. So many items are crossbuy that I'd rather it just be all lumped together in one place. I know somethings have to be bought separately, though, too, so it's just so araggaghagahs;dlgk
This is why I prefer to buy physical so I can ignore looking at that section *facepalm*
-
Ironically, it was tracking my digital library that drew me to this site. I wanted an easy way of knowing what I owned. :P
Sony lists them in the store as "PS2 on PS4", which still sounds weird but might be the best category to create to put them in?
-
I remember bringing this up as a topic over the summer, it leads to what I think are dupes in multiple platforms, like karyann said.
I think it would be good to remove the PS1 and 2 classics sections on VGC and move it all into PS network under the appropriate platforms. It just seems strange to have a "PS Classics" section when it's really just a different section of the PSN store. I don't mind the cross buy platforms being listed in both sections, not sure about that though.
The topic I made: http://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,6451.msg98024.html#msg98024
EDIT: I wanted to ask how the Xbox digital categories were working, since for that we have all the Xbox digital stuff under either Xbox 360 or One with no additional sub-categories. Do you guys think that's what should be done with Sony as well?
-
There are some recently created entries that I believe would go with Playstation 3 [BR ], which we don't have yet :)

i bought rayman origins off of the Uplay storefront, but there was no category so I uploaded it as a PC download with "(Uplay)" next to it. can you please add a Uplay category?

Our current style guide for digital games (http://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,4477.msg51917.html#msg51917) states the following for Uplay items:
I bought the game at a digital retailer, but I got a key that needs to be activated somewhere. Should I add the game with the store name?
No. If you bought a game and they gave you a Steam key, you should use a Steam listing for the game. If you got an Origin or Uplay key then you should use a generic digital listing for the game.
but I'll merge your topic into the category requests so that it's on the radar for possible additions should we decide to change that.
-
A very small request, but for the small number of Korean games we have in the database, we do not currently have the rating system for them. It's called the GRAC. It seems like they have All (or A), 12+, 15+ and 18+

Yeah thats on an admin page.

Oops, that's what I get for doing a search and forgetting that some of the results come from admin-only pages.
I guess our current style guide doesn't specify naming conventions (that quote I got was probably from a bigger staff-side conversation about it), but we should hopefully be updating the style guide soon anyway.

Correct, I actually added it on purpose because otherwise it would just show as a line break :)

Not sure if it's feasible, but should we have a separate Platform/Category for countries with their own rating systems, such as New Zealand or Iran? For that matter, should we break up the EU category since many European countries also have their own rating systems? Most of the other regions (JP, CN) are classified by country, and I'd think the NA category could be excused since the ESRB covers the continent. Not sure where the line should be drawn or if it'd get too messy to categorize them all.
Also would really like to have a separate Swag subcategory for phone accessories, such as charms and phone cards.
I noticed we have a category for Interactive Figures and Cards, but its only subcategory is Interactive Figures. Shouldn't we have Interactive Cards? Would something like a Lord of Vermilion card, which is placed on an arcade machine and scanned to insert a character into the game, count as an example of Interactive Cards?

I see that users are putting Brazil PS3 games into the PS3 [NA] category. We probably should make a PS3 BR] category.

That's actually a very interesting point. It would require a whole lot of reworking, but I think it's worth at least pondering upon. EU categories ARE getting really messy after all...

Categories are going to be changed (hopefully soon) for the pattern voted in the thread about Interactive Figures!

We need to get bootlegs and homebrews out of regular categories so that regular game categories are for standard releases only. An additional category for such games should be added for each of the main systems to handle all consoles it falls under. Such as:
- Sega Genesis/Mega Drive
- NES/Famicom
- Game Boy/Color/Advance
Additional platforms required from my list

Can we PLEASE get Playstation 4 [AS], Playstation 3 [AS], and Playstation Vita [AS] categories? I was under the impression that the [CN] category covered Asian releases, but now I'm being told that's not the case. I'd be willing to bet the majority of games entered under [CN] are actually [AS], I know all of the ones I've entered are.
-
BTW, this region mess would be a LOT simpler if it were simply a field in the game's entry instead of a category. In other words, when you enter a game you should just choose the region for that game just like you choose dev, publisher, genre, etc. This would solve 2 problems: it would list all games by a platform together (am I the only one that hates that, for example, my PS3 collection is split between NA, JP, UK, etc?) and it would make adding new/missing regions a lot easier than having to create an entire new category.
I know this will never happen, it's too major of an upheaval of the system. It's become enough of an annoyance to me tho that I'm currently looking for other options to catalog my collection. :-\
-
I know what you are talking about. Yes it would involve a lot of work. If we change it so game entries can have these additional attribute fields:
- release country (if known)
- languages (for game/manual used as a tag/based system so that multiples can be added in various combinations)
Then what you want is for the categories to be "smart." Instead of the games being in categories, you want the category to fetch the games that apply to it. So if you wanted to look at PS3 Japan, the site would show you PS3 games released in Japan. If you wanted to see PS3 games from UK, it would only show you those. If you justed wanted to see PS3 games without additional filters, it would show that.
So it would be a lot of work, meaning adding all that information to existing entries, if we get those types of fields. And probably this type of display would work best to only be available as a profile option at first.
Basically, you want to control how your collection is shown to you. Does what I am saying make sense?
-

This is my dream. It would indeed be a crapton of work, but it would be easier to manage afterwards. I don't wanna leave Jason to tackle this alone, however. That would suck for him. :-\ And I'm pursuing a promotion, so you might have noticed my regular absences recently :'(
-
Yeah tripredacus, that would be the ultimate ideal, but even as a half-measure if everything was just sorted by platform period & all the other data was just fields under that, regardless of if you could sort by them or not, would be an improvement IMO.
But I'm fully aware that all of this is free, and the work is being done out of the goodness of people's hearts, so I don't want to sound ungrateful. It's just that with the increased amount of importing I've started personally doing I'm not sure if the current system is going to continue to meet my needs.
-
This is really clever and when I think about, I mean, we have all the data in place already. It's "just" to create a field and migrate data using the information we already have. I.e. all entries residing in i.e. PS3 [NA] category should have field = Region set to "North America". So while it is indeed a lot of work, it's not like we have to re-add every game to the database again :)

Can we have a formal discussion about the merging the regions idea?
I'm hoping there's something I'm missing or misunderstanding, sounds like it would make searching for games a pain unless you use advanced search.

Thanks for catching that. I've fixed that now.

FM-7 can probably just be put into Other.
For the NEC PC-6001, maybe have a NEC PC category and put the PC-88 and PC-98 and the PC-6001 under that?

I think it is supposed to be Dragon 32. Naming it simply "Dragon" wouldn't be right, it should either be Dragon 32 or Dragon 32/64, even if Dragon 64 isn't really a hardware platform. It is not related to the 3DO at all.

Regarding splitting the PC category as is still under evaluation. Wouldn't it make more sense to just have one category for the floppy disks and one for the optical discs? I mean, there was a time when PC games game delivered both on 3.5 and 5.25 inch disks in the same box (this might also be true for CD/DVD). Would it perhaps be easier/better to structure it something like this:
Split PC [NA] into:
- PC 3.5"/5.25" Floppy Disk [NA]

The generic category is such a pain because it doesn't say where the game comes from. For example, Fatal Labyrinth:
http://vgcollect.com/item/86992
Which is on Steam, a Steam entry already exists
However you could have bought it on Amazon, as there is a listing there. And there are other sites where you could buy "the Genesis version" which means it was a rom. I tried to find where you can buy and download this PC version now and I come up empty. So this puts a bad taste in my mouth for this category, it doesn't mean anything without knowing where it comes from. We even have games in the db that are free-to-play MMOs, and they are in the digital category.

Yes/no. Computer games can be like this:
- 5.25" disk
- 3.5" disk
- 3.5" and 5.25" disk
- 3.5" disk and CD-ROM
- CD-ROM and DVD-ROM

For the uncommon instances where a game comes with a CD and 3.5" floppy disk, then we should prioritize it as a CD game, if these categories are adopted.

This really is a mess ;D I think the best solution would be to be able to add one or more Formats to an entry in a category, and not have the actual Formats as categories in themselves

Yeah, aside from IBM PC/DOS/Windows games, the other computers have similar situations where they can come with formats like this:
5.25" disk
3.5" disk
cassette
whatever this disk is called: http://vgcollect.com/item/100494
Either on their own or in various combinations.

Ah yes, the infamous 3" floppy disk. I think this was only ever used with the Amstrad CPC / Spectrum Computers. Maybe the MSX computers also used this

You must've been on sabbatical when we were going over this a few months back. ;)
I wanna say it was discussed in the thread that I pulled that from and unless I'm mistaken, the consensus was people wanted the figures separate from the cards. I think with 400 cards and however many figures (a couple hundred all combined from the various regions they've been released in I would imagine), it might work better if they were separate but that's just my opinion. I mean we do have categories with scant or no entries in them so it's not like two categories instead of one is going to clutter things up too much. ;)
One of the reasons I was okay lumping the Skylanders Figures and Vehicles together as well as the Infinity Figures/Power Discs/Play Sets into one category is that in some instances they are packaged together. To the best of my knowledge, Skylanders Traps were not bundled with anything but other traps so I just lumped them in with the Figures/Vehicles for the sake of convenience.

The script was all complete and ready to roll, and then I moved so I didn't have time, and then my computer crashed and I lost my latest version... I still have a halfway through version that I'm working on finishing again. But it's coming! Thanks for all off you guys' patience on this.
Also yes that was the consensus that most people who participated in the thread agreed on.

I didn't notice this until now, but it seems like some games are released in both Europe and Russian countries at the same time. So I wonder if it even makes sense to make a separate category for [RU] games then...
Like this game I just added

This has been talked about earlier in this thread, but I would also like some clarification in the China [CN] <-> Asia [AS] issue. This crops up time and time again when I'm importing games from Play-Asia that are sold under the Asia region labeling (Hong Kong, Singapore, etc).

China games in [CN] category are going to be games made for Chinese market. They will use China rating and/or have Chinese text on the covers.
Asia [AS] games are typically known as "English Asia" type release. They are games for SE Asia for countries outside Japan, Taiwan and China, often will just be English versions with different barcodes. Also older games were known as Hong Kong versions, fit into AS categories.
Simply, Chinese text/rating goes into CN.
It is confusing at times, even for say Sega. They did make versions specifically for Taiwan (for example) but also there were some general Asia release versions to. If you ever buy a game and you are not sure which it is, you can make a thread to ask and we can see if we can tell what exactly you have.

I wonder do, why does Korea need his own Catagory? It falls under [AS] if you ask me. Not 1 country in Europe has his own Catagory!
-
I've wondered that too. I don't know if there really is a consistent definition for why some countries have their own platform and some don't.
I guess the idea was to have a balance between 1. having a ton of different platforms to have to sort through, and 2.large messy categories with unrelated countries mushed together.

It would be acceptable to have just [AS] category where Korean [KR], Chinese [CN] and Taiwan [TW] games are put into. It would mirror the EU category. And then Asian Release games would not use the [AS] prefix, akin to English European games not having a prefix in the EU category.

Hi, I'm wondering if you could add a Game Boy Color [KR] category as there are two Korean Game Boy Color games (and possibly more I'm unaware of); the Korean versions of Pokémon Gold and Silver (Pocket Monsters Geum and Eun) or at least a Game Boy Color [AS] category like tripredacus suggested please?
Thanks.

Can you please add:
- JAMMA
- Sega Ringedge
- Sega Lindberg
Unless JAMMA sits under "Arcade (Dedicated)"
Thanks for the great site.

Since there are categories for amiibo figures, amiibo cards and Pokemon Rumble U figures... Could we get a category for e-Reader cards? It'd be nice to track Animal Crossing e-Reader cards.
-
This might have been already mentioned on forums but shouldn't Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo Pocket/Color be on different category rather than everything under Neo Geo(general)? Same for Virtual Boy and Game & Watch. This was the case with Atari platforms which was split for each last year and it is now much better and makes sense.
Not sure if all of this requires a lot of effort/work or even reorganization of DB but definitively it is something that in my opinion makes much more sense.
I understand there are just very few items for Virtual Boy and Game & Watch to worth the split , but that is not the case for Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo Pocket which have much more items.
Anyways if this is something being considered it would be nice and appreciated ;)

Hi emagen303,
It looks like we don't have any games listed for the platform yet. We have games mostly listed under the NGPC (https://vgcollect.com/browse/neogeopocket) at the moment. It looks like there weren't many releases specific to the regular Neo Geo Pocket, before going to Neo Geo Pocket Color games. Please feel free to submit new games (https://vgcollect.com/submit) that we don't currently have listed.
Thanks,
Jason

Oh those, well those categories are on my list to get to. This PS2 thing is sucking my life away :'(

Regardless, IMO, the fact that they are branded differently and have a conflicting set of requirements ( they don't truly belong under 32x nor CD) they should be given their own category.

Hi, I'm an Xbox/xbox live collector, and part of xbox live is the xbox enabled windows phone games. Is it a possibility of this being added in any way?
There wouldn't be a system attached to it, as any phone with a windows operating system can download/play the games. There is also a small handful of xbox enabled games available for iOS/Android
My suggestion would be something along the lines of:
Xbox Live Windows Phone
Xbox Live Windows Phone (Android)
Xbox Live Windows Phone (iOS)
I am very new to the site, so apologise if this has been suggested/rejected before.
Thanks

Can we please get Amiibo regions
AFAIK, I think, while in talks about how to standardize the interactive figure categories, we felt creating regions would be creating too many categories, especially since the figures themselves are region-free when opened. Variants for packaging can still be tracked in the item title, if anything.
-

I don't see how adding regions is adding "too many categories" when adding the regions is simply a means of having better organization and means of access. Yes, the figures are region free out of the package, but a lot of people keep them sealed, especially collectors. The entire category is just a giant mosh pit of incorrect titles, duplicates, and it's hard to really find anything by just typing it into the search bar.
Administrators have responded to feedback in the past by giving individual categories of interactive figures to make the database more organized and I think this is the next and really final step for maximum visibility, organization and accessibility to users.
I personally would put the work into correctly categorizing and titling the entries, I've done it with a few systems on the site. Amiibo are now a large enough category that is big enough that it could benefit from regions. It shouldn't have anything to do having too many categories, it should be done for the best organization.
I don't know if you personally have anything to do with the addition of categories but I think it should be reconsidered.

I personally don't in regard to interactive figures - I just recall some of the other admin had sat down to figure out the best way to handle that category in general. But I agree that the field itself is still evolving and can always be re-evaluated again for ways to make it better for everyone.

I believe we need some new categories that allow games on compilation discs to be listed in our collections.
Examples of these new categories could be: "Xbox 360 - On Compilation Disc" and "Playstation 3 - On Compilation Disc"
I have read the OFFICIAL Style Guide at https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,22.msg155.html#msg155 (https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,22.msg155.html#msg155)
And, I have read this post:
The database is designed for the actual physical items, not the games (data) itself.
So as an example, I have this item "Epic Megagames Adventures"
https://vgcollect.com/item/112953
It is a bundle of some full version and shareware titles. I do not go and add the individual games to my collection, but I add this one item.
Yet it still does leave me with a situation that I still need to handle outside of the site currently. Of all my compilation items, I need to keep a separate list of what is contained and on what disc. This also applies to Demo discs.
But, the database does not only track "actual physical items", it also tracks "Digital Downloads".
I will use the game "Vectorman" as an example:
Existing entries for “Vectorman” (as of 2017_09_18)
https://vgcollect.com/item/9574 Sega Genesis [NA] 523
https://vgcollect.com/item/14859 Wii Shop [NA] 5
https://vgcollect.com/item/21148 Steam 16
https://vgcollect.com/item/39111 Sega Mega Drive [EU] 38
https://vgcollect.com/item/87018 PC - Digital Download 1
https://vgcollect.com/item/114030 Sega Mega Drive 1
584 users have “Vectorman” listed in their collection, of which only 22 are Digital Downloads.
Existing entries for “Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection” that includes “Vectorman” (as of 2017_09_18)
https://vgcollect.com/item/8491 Xbox 360 [NA] 238
https://vgcollect.com/item/9614 PlayStation 3 [NA] 400
https://vgcollect.com/item/18292 Xbox 360 [NA] 94
https://vgcollect.com/item/63950 PlayStation 3 [NA] 28
So, 760 additional users actually own the game “Vectorman” that is included their “Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection” disc.
But, these 760 users are not allowed to have the game individually listed in their on-line collection, and therefore cannot do a search to see if they own the game.
Why can't I see the game "Vectorman" listed in my collection. It's sort of like, I feel penalized because I purchased the game on a physical disc, instead of purchasing it as a digital download.
-
We would need the ability to set parent and child entries before we can have a setup like this. I do not think creating additional categories is the way to go here.

I'd like to make a request for an "E-Reader Cards" category.
Since we now have an "interactive figures and cards" section it would be a better fit under that, and I don't feel like it's appropriate to be in the GBA category as they are not GBA games, there are e-reader cards specifically for the GameCube, like Animal Crossing.
-
Agreed.
-
I guess it would be one category and all the JP and NA stuff would be lumped in like with amiibo?

Probably.
I know I've been wanting to add my Mario Party e-reader card game, but I didn't know where to put it.
No e-reader category and I believe it is playable without the e-reader.
-
Just a friendly poke for the e-reader category :) Thanks!

I have a small Apple IIgs collection that I would like to catalog. Any chance of getting a platform update for this machine?

Hi. You can submit new games and other items by yourself.
-
Use the Apple II categories that already exist.
-
The Apple IIgs is to the Apple II as the Gameboy Advance is to the Gameboy. While the machine is backwards compatible, the GS has its own library of software that will not run on the Apple II.
If you add a category for the GS, I will start adding entries for it. However, I am not going to cram the GS software library in to the II library, as GS software is not compatible with the Apple II / Apple II+ / Apple IIe / Apple IIc.
-
Sounds good, we can wait to get that category made then.

Sorry for the delay. Just added this category! :-)

So this is the Asian Switch release -> no problem in adding Wonderboy the Dragon's Trap (Korean version) then?

Wonderboy the Dragon's Trap (Korean version)
Don't you dare call it that!

Still waiting on these:
1. Remove SG-1000 II [JP] sub-category (it is currently empty)
https://vgcollect.com/browse/sg1000II
This is a hardware variant, not a separate game library (would be the equivalent of having a Master System II [EU] category)
2. Move SC-3000 [JP] sub-category from Sega Other category and put into Sega SG-1000 category
https://vgcollect.com/browse/sc3000
3. Move Sega SG-1000 [TW] sub-category from Sega Other category and put into Sega SG-1000 category
https://vgcollect.com/browse/segasg1000tw
4. Move Sega SC-3000 Hardware sub-category from Sega Other category and put into Sega SG-1000 category
https://vgcollect.com/browse/sc3000hardware
5. Delete Sega Other category
6. Add Sega SG-1000 [EU] sub-category to Sega SG-1000 category.
--
- Change name of PC - Digital Download [NA] sub-category (in PC category) to PC - Digital Download. Remove [NA] from it.
--
- Add Swag - Game Cards sub-category to Swag category.
--
- Add Sega 32X [ BR] sub-category to Sega Genesis/Mega Drive category.
- Add Sega 32X [AS] sub-category to Sega Genesis/Mega Drive category.

6. Add Sega SG-1000 [EU] sub-category to Sega SG-1000 category.
I have added this category.

The Japanese Casio PV-1000 is not listed in here as a category. The casio loopy is there but not it's predecessor.
It is under dedicated systems i believe, but needs to be it's own category.
I also have half of the games with the system to enter into my collection. Please let me know if you need any additional information.
APF MP1000
aka
APF M1000
2 different models exist
THe MP1000 is under other but needs its own category. Many of the games are randomly entered into OTHER already but needs category to finish adding the library. Ill continue to add to other.
Does someone respond to these? It's been a while just want to know if it's being noticed.

Not sure if this is the right section but I was looking at my games today and found a japanese game that is not listed in the site.
The game is DISORDER6 (PS3) (JP) When I searched the game I only saw the XBOX 360 version.

You can add that game into the PS3 Japan category. This thread is to ask for categories that do not exist.
If you have a game that is not in a category that already exists, you can just add it.

Hi admin, please can you add Ps3 (As),Ps4 (As),and Psvita (As) to the selection. Its for asia region game, mostly South East Asia.
Might as well add NES (As) for retro console.
Thanks in advance!

Ps4 (As)
Doesn't this already exist as PS4 [TW] ?

If im not mistaken,its different.
The asian version mostly come in english and japan language, the region cover most of South East Asia and HK.
NB:I saw some asian item registered under CN list on this site.Might as well change it to CN/HK or CN/AS for quick fix?

I have a variety of video game/video game related plushes and figures and would like to have a list of them. Where there is a "Swag" section and "Toys/Novelties" within that section it's not really distinct and doesn't really include all merchandise.

Can you be more specific? Toys/Novelties is the section to put in figures and stuffed animals.
-
A place for Figures and plushes would be nice. Also "Choice Provisions" isn't in the developer area.

There's not a direct section to put figures and toys, instead, it's all toys/novelties and that isn't very specific when describing something.
-
Choice Provisions added.
Well Toys/Novelties is the place already.
Are you instead asking to create an additional swag category for items that are not toys, so that items that are not toys or stuffed animals will not be in Toys/Novelties?

Just wondering why only [NA] has DSi as it's own category but with every other region it has been merged with normal DS games?
If there is no any deeper reason I would request category: Nintendo DSi [EU]
DSi [EU] games I know on the site:
https://vgcollect.com/item/147075
https://vgcollect.com/item/144068
https://vgcollect.com/item/20377
https://vgcollect.com/item/80770
https://vgcollect.com/item/81095 This one is wrongly listed under DSi [NA]
Secondly, just thought should "Magnavox Odyssey² [EU]" be renamed to "Philips Videopac" or "Philips Videopac [EU]" as that's what they were branded in Europe.
-

Yes, some naming needs to be fixed, same with Korean consoles.

Hello,
I'd like to add a Wii U Demo Disc to the database, but there's no "Wii U Demo" category
And where should Wii U Demo Hardware go? Under "Wii U Hardware" or "Wii U Demo" as well? :)
-
All hardware go into hardware category, or accessories. This includes NFR and Developer hardware.
For Wii U demos, put them in the appropriate Wii U software category and put the release type to Demo. If you do not know what to put as the item title, post pictures of one and we can try to help out.

Request for amiibo figures and cards regions. The current setup is very disorganized and messy

May as well request the addition of StarLink to the Interactive Figures section.
Request for amiibo figures and cards regions. The current setup is very disorganized and messy
It might be time to break them down into region for Amiibo at least. I noticed someone added a bunch of accessories like displays. I get that's what they're for but I don't think that's correct place for them. :P

I really don't see the point in not regionalizing them, especially now that lots of variants exclusive to certain regions are appearing. Heck, I'll even volunteer to fix them and rename and reorganize them if regions re added.

Is there any chance that we could add the Advanced Pico Beena to this?
The Beena is the follow-up console to the Sega Pico, and it was in use from late 2005 to 2011. Although the system was distributed by Sega Toys, it is a console, albeit meant for little kids. I know the Pico itself was also meant for kids but I'm not sure if we want to add this considering that Sega proper isn't the distributor.
Here's some information on the Beena, if it helps. (https://segaretro.org/Advanced_Pico_Beena)
-
I've added MP1000 games to other a while ago but it could use it's own category.
The system is made by APF and originally called the MP1000, later models M1000. I don't really see any difference between regions, maybe someone else can verify.
Accessory called the Imagination Machine let the system be placed into a giant keyboard and tape deck for home computing, could probably just go under the hardware section with the console.
I'll move hardware and games over once the categories are created.
Thank you
-
I also noticed that we don't have a section set for Game Boy Advance [KR] yet. Is there a specific reason as to why that is? I think the GBA did get distribution in Korea, because a couple Dragon Ball games were released in Korea.
-
There are two types of people who add items onto VGC:
99.9% of those people are those who have games and want to add them to their collection.
00.1% of those people are those who want to add missing games into the database.
So suffice it to say, I guess no one has any Korean GB games. Categories are created on an as-needed basis.
-
Could we get a Xbox 360 Faceplate Category under Xbox 360, instead of putting the faceplates under the Xbox 360 accessories? It would better organize the accessories category. There are so many faceplates too.
-
Considering that the Nintendo Switch HAS been released in Korea, even though not that many people on the site probably are from there, should we add a Nintendo Switch [KR] and Nintendo eShop (Switch) [KR] section? I found out that Climax Scramble ZI-O was released in Korea as well, which makes no sense to me considering that they just started Build's airing over there, but that's neither here nor there.
-
I think maybe Palm OS should get a category. The closest thing to it is the Tapwave Zodiac which runs Palm OS, but that only includes Zodiac-specific games.
-
I request for Apple Macintosh Classic [EU] category. I have around 40 classic Mac games in European versions which I'd like to add to our database.
-
There needs to be a category for Xbox/Xbox 360 Hybrid demos (probably best to title it that too). https://vgcollect.com/item/82266
-
Yes that along with every other multi-platform game. That item is in the correct category now.

The ZX Spectrum Next. This machine is a clone of the original computer, but also has its own new boosted base-spec and more graphics modes. It is not released yet - it was funded via Kickstarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1835143999/zx-spectrum-next (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1835143999/zx-spectrum-next)
This page has further details:
https://www.specnext.com/about/ (https://www.specnext.com/about/)
The machine has had a prolonged development history, but seems to be nearing completion. There are games in development for it, to be released digitally and on SD Cards:
http://www.spectrumnextgames.uk/ (http://www.spectrumnextgames.uk/)
Despite it being very early days and pre-release, one particular developer http://www.softwareamusements.com/SpectrumNextGames/index.html (http://www.softwareamusements.com/SpectrumNextGames/index.html) has already released physical games on SD card, a couple of which I now own and would like to add to the database:
https://imgur.com/a/PMXIZ7t? (https://imgur.com/a/PMXIZ7t?)
Your thoughts guys and gals?

Wait for product to exist before requesting a category be made.

Will do, thanks.

Can we make a new hardware category for dedicated VR headsets? There are numerous stand-alone sets with their own app stores and do not require a PC to use. Examples are Gear VR, Oculus Go, Google Daydream, Oculus Quest, etc.
They also have dedicated storefronts for their games & apps. Thanks for considering this!

Make specific category requests here. It helps if you already know what categories you want, rather than to make the admins try to figure it out on their own.
But let me ask you this, do you think there is enough stuff for each of those platforms to have their own category? Or could we simply make Dedicated VR Hardware and Dedicated VR Software categories?

I think one VR hardware category would be sufficient, along with one VR accessories category. One games category should work. I can just note at the end of the title what platform the game is for. Ie "Drop Dead for Gear VR."
-
Can we get a Switch category for general Asian releases? Or rename the Chinese category, since half of it is already Asia region games.
-
So....were we going to add a dedicated VR hardware, software & accessories section? Nobody ever said either way. :-\
-
Whole collection including hardware is listed under other and hardware now.
Need a new category for the gaming system called
APF MP1000 Hardware
APF MP1000 [NA]
There were European releases as well but not certain if they are exclusive outside of the imagination machine addon.
A database search for MP1000 will provide results of all games and hardware i've added that need to be moved into it's own new section.
I've added MP1000 games to other a while ago but it could use it's own category.

Hello,
Please make a new category under Interactive Figures named Starlink. It appears to be the only toys to life line under Hardware -> Accessory. We currently have Interactive Figures ->
- Amiibo Figures
- LEGO Dimensions Figures
- Skylanders Figures/Traps/Vehicles
- etc
Thank you
