Shantae and the Pirate's Curse was a blast. I'm really excited to try Risky's Revenge.

I believe it would make more sense to do the games in the reverse order since the story of Pirate's Curse follows Risky's Revenge. Anyhow indeed those games are awesome and underrated!

I believe the Mario Bros. Game & Watch is the oldest I own.

my Xbone continues to collect more dust than an abandoned library book. I'm seriously considering trading it in towards a Wii U.

I won't tell you to sell your XBone as I really don't know if it's a good or bad platform but I own a Wii U and I spent a good trade of great gameplay hours on this console.

Super Mario 3D World, Yoshi's Wooly World, Mario Kart 8 and Smash 4 are wonderfully crafted games that offer great polished gameplay. Bayonetta 2 is as well a hit, I personnally don't like the artistic direction of the series so I skipped it but I know Platinum Games always deliver on their main franchises.

Playing those games with a Pro Controller was really worth buying the console, for sure.

And back on topic, yes I preordered a PS4 pro because, you know, playing Bloodborne with better framerate is my wet dream.

It took me quite some time but finally got Platinum for Hyper Light Drifter.

I enjoyed this game so much, I'm so proud I backed it in Kickstarter. Yesterday they announced the 60FPS patch + Boss rush mode incoming, I can't wait to try it for my Alternate Drifter run!

Wii hardware is designed to run on EDTV standard, so that means to get a correct image for this console you must use it on a 16:9 CRT TV with Component Video connectivity. In 480p mode on this kind of TV the Wii looks really good !

It was such a bad timing for Nintendo since LCD/HDMI era came out just after the console released, but I think it doesn't matter much considering how much units they sold..

Definitely NEO-GEO AES overall.

I love SFC boxes, they look glorious but are too damn fragile, on the other hand PS3/60/4/WiiU boxes are indeed the most durable and practical but they are less stylish.. AES wins again my friends.

I love doing trophy hunts on the games I enjoy.

The most cool part of it is it often makes you explore parts of the game you would have missed or gameplay mechanics you wouldn't care to experiment. For me it's like seeing the "full picture" of the game as the game developers wanted you to see.

Oh nice reminder! Now I got proper capture setup I should be able to do some playthroughs of the Genesis ones.

Here's an example of capture I did (force 720p60 for best quality):

I'll see if I can do a Sonic 1 run soon!

Off Topic / Re: how the hell do you pick a career??
« on: September 07, 2016, 12:18:38 pm »
The only advice I can give you based on my own experience is you must be curious and not hesitate to go meet people to see what their job looks like. It can seem ankward at first but it's really worth it to make you realize what's the reality of a job, and it can create vocations.

10 years ago I felt I wanst' happy with my job - was working in supermarket's warehouse - so I went to a government service we have here in France that allows you to be a trainee for like 1 week in any company that accepts it, based on a career project. So you can go and see how people work, participate with them if it's possible and get the idea of what you want to do. It's something we usually already do as teenagers as part of the school course but doing it later as an adult it's very different, much more tangible.

So I made some papers for a project oriented on graphical design and IT stuff then went to meet some people directly in offices, without appointment, to explain my case, and a lot of them accepted. I went in a graphic designer studio, in an office that makes technical maps for the government, in a printing house, in a garden designer studio, a web agency, etc. That was really cool and I learnt a lot about jobs I didn't even imagined, or I falsely pictured.

I decided I wanted to work in the web and even if I had never made any code before, my degree that was kinda math oriented would open me the door to technical studies, plus I felt I had what it takes to learn it. So I did a web study, worked very hard and now 10 years later I'm a web ingeneer specialized at front-end development in a big corporation.

So really my advice is be curious, maybe you just don't know what to choose because there are a lot of jobs out there that you don't know or imagine the wrong way!

Classic Video Games / Re: Panzer Dragoon Saga: is it REALLY worth $500+?
« on: September 06, 2016, 05:08:23 am »
In my opinion it is. I had the chance to play it at the time it came out and since then it has never been matched by any Role Playing Game for me.

The price tag is justified, it's an awesome game, it has an aura unlike any other, emulation for this game is unstable - yes i'm looking at you Sestren boss cutscenes crashing SSF emulator - and of course not much people are willing to sell it, making the few copies + lost source-code factors raising the price. It's just the law of the market and the price tag is still low compared to a lot of NG-AES games.

@turom: Daaaaamn, the PAL version of Panzer Dragoon Saga is gorgeous. That's a keeper!

That's my favorite piece in my collection! (more pics)

And the sweet thing is by unlocking it with the correct AR code it runs in NTSC mode on a NTSC Saturn, exactly like an US version, but with that glorious packaging.

I remember that in PAL region the "Platinum" - re-release - version of PSX games had plain bland cheap discs while original had nice artworks on them. I thik it applies to other consoles. I love decorated game discs!

Never cared for PSP long loading times, and RPG games I would have preferred on a home console instead of a portable.

Sounds exactly like the NDS for me, it's so frustrating so many great games that deserved a home console release were ported to NDS to reduce development costs, resulting in a bunch of cult franchises running on a very limited hardware because, you know, niche games.
