Modern Video Games / I made a PS4 PAL release checklist!
« on: April 18, 2017, 05:44:35 am »
Hello fellow PAL collectors!
It's been a while since I've posted here but I'm hoping to get back into things with something I've put quite a bit of time into. I posted it to /r/gamecollecting too so I'll just copy the text from there, starting now:

After posting here a while ago asking whether or not something like this exists, I eventually found out that it basically does not. There are a few lists but they're generally inaccurate, especially for the PAL region, so I did a LOT of cross-referencing and Amazon-based research to create what I believe to he a definitive list of every PS4 game released in the PAL region, with a few exceptions which I put at the top of the spreadsheet.

There's a clean copy herehttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yEplpMJvFZevku7LdCmy-K1ixhwM2LZ6xKDsKp_IB88/edit?usp=drivesdk, just replace the N's with Ys on the games you have and add whatever notes you may have in the sections and it'll figure out how much you have left to get etc.

Of course no list like this is perfect so if I've missed anything don't hesitate to tell me and I'll fix it. I'll be updating the list every week or so to make sure the list is as accurate as possible at all times. I hope I have made a useful resource for at least a few of the people here :)

General / Biggest series to collect?
« on: January 27, 2016, 03:00:11 pm »
Sorry if this has been asked before but does anybody know what the biggest game series to collect is, and, by extension, is there anyone who has the collection complete? I'd guess it's something like Final Fantasy or Mario but I could be wrong.

Modern Video Games / The future of Star Wars games
« on: October 05, 2015, 04:27:27 pm »
With Battlefront coming out, I think we should talk about what the Star Wars game series has to offer in future.
There's the "Uncharted-like" Star Wars game being made by Visceral and a couple mobile games, but what else?
So, what's next? Do you think there'll be a straight tie-in for The Force Awakens like the older movies or will it just be spin-offs for the new trilogy? What might those spin-offs be?

Modern Video Games / Rank your anticipation!
« on: June 15, 2015, 03:12:18 pm »
So this is a thing I thought would be fun. Take all the games you're looking forward to and rank em, 1-5. The ranking system I've created for this is as follows:

Level 1: Have to have ASAP
Level 2: Super excited
Level 3: "You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention."
Level 4: Somewhat eager anticipation
Level 5: Interested but will wait for a major price drop before buying

My anticipation rankings are here:

LEVEL 1:
Star Wars: Battlefront
DOOM
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5
Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst
No Man’s Sky

LEVEL 2
Mad Max
Shadow Warrior 2
Fallout 4

LEVEL 3
Batman: Arkham Knight
Dishonored 2
Dishonored: Definitive Edition
Just Cause 3

LEVEL 4
Street Fighter V
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

LEVEL 5
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate
The Division

Hardware and Tech / Rock Band/Guitar Hero compatibility?
« on: June 08, 2015, 05:59:09 pm »
Hey :) Wasn't sure whether to put this in Modern Games or Hardware but since this is more of a hardware-based issue I've put it here.

Anyway, I just bought the Rock Band Special Value Edition for the PS3 which came with the Fender Stratocaster guitar replica and I was wondering whether or not my Rock Band guitar would work with the Guitar Hero games. I have seen the chart that Activision put out on the matter however it seems that only goes up to World Tour, and Rock Band controllers did not work up until World Tour so I'd assume that every Guitar Hero game post-World Tour has Rock Band compatibility? Asking as I want to buy the Metallica and Warriors of Rock games but don't wanna buy even more controllers :P

Thanks :)

General / BEST Video Game movie?
« on: April 22, 2015, 05:39:19 pm »
Okay, so I know video game movies get a lot of flack (and rightly so), but can anyone think of a video game movie that was any good? I personally thought the Silent Hill movie was quite solid. Well, the first one at least, the second one I haven't seen yet. Also, the Resident Evil movies, while not sharing too much in common with the actual game, I found to be some fun eye candy while it was on.

Classic Video Games / PCEngine/TG-16 in PAL regions?
« on: March 29, 2015, 04:00:18 am »
I'm interested in getting a TurboGrafx-16/PCEngine but by the looks of things it's kinda complicated over here in the UK. Do I need to import or is there a very rare PAL release or something?

General / Tony Hawk Retrospective
« on: March 22, 2015, 04:01:08 pm »
Howdy Y'all! So I know it seems like I've been whoring my channel out a lot (and that's probably because I have) but I've finally made something I'm actually happy with, and it isn't even the full thing!

Basically what this is is a trailer for an (as yet unfinished) retrospective video for the "Tony Hawk's" series of games. It's rather heavily inspired by the likes of RetroAhoy and LazyGameReviews, and I'm trying to deliver an almost-professional in-depth look at the series.

So, without further ado, I present you with this link! Please check it out if you have the time, especially if you're interested in the Tony Hawk games or you enjoy Ahoy and LGR's videos. I'm just getting to grips with it all so I'd love some feedback :)

Hardware and Tech / PAL Dreamcast w/ Orange Swirl?
« on: February 20, 2015, 04:31:46 pm »
So I'm looking at a Dreamcast on eBay and it says that it's a PAL region console despite having an orange swirl. Could this be true or not? Thanks

Modern Video Games / Playstation All-Stars 2 - Ideal Roster?
« on: February 13, 2015, 12:30:55 pm »
So I was toying with the idea of a sequel to PS All Stars Battle Royale and I though, what new characters could they throw in? Personally I'd like to see some Resident Evil and/or Silent Hill love (namely Nemesis and Pyramid Head) along with the obvious Crash & Spyro which weren't in the first game for what I cam only assume are legal reasons :P

Anyway, what characters would you guys like to see in a sequel?

Hardware and Tech / C64 Tape Loading Issues
« on: February 03, 2015, 10:51:49 am »
So I've had my C64 for a while now and it's worked without fail. But recently I got it out again and it's having a bit of trouble with loading tapes. My Star Wars game, for instance, loads only to a blank screen with "ready." on it, and typing "run" or pressing the "run/stop" button does  nothing. On another game I tried, the text went black with a message that read "out of memory". What should I do? Is my Commodore broken?

**EDIT** Don't worry, I've got it to work now. Turns out if you hold the space bar down while it loads it works for some reason :P

General / Light Gun Games?
« on: January 26, 2015, 03:37:30 pm »
Hi all! :)

I'm interested in collecting light gun games since I like playing them in the arcades so much and they'd just be generally cool to have. What I'd like to ask is, Are they worth it? Are they fun, do they play like they do in the arcades? Also, baring in mind I'm on a tight budget, what guns/games would you recommend I buy? Would it be worth buying a PS Move and a couple games for that?

Sorry for the question-filled post, thanks in advance :)

Modern Video Games / GTA IV re-release - Would you buy it?
« on: January 06, 2015, 05:52:19 pm »
I had an idea recently while playing some GTA V on PS4 - what if they re-released GTA IV and it's expansions for new-gen consoles with updated graphics and a first-person mode and everything? With the new processing power they might even be able to expand the map a little (knowing the effort R* puts into their games it wouldn't surprise me if they did this) Seeing Liberty City fleshed out in full next-gen glory and that odd murkiness that a lot of the games from around that time seemed to have gone in place of the GTA V graphics engine would definitely be something I'd throw all my money at whenever possible. What I'm interested to know is, would anyone else here be interested in it?

Also, Rockstar, what the hell happened to Agent??

Off Topic / Looking for an artist for my channel
« on: December 14, 2014, 04:33:24 pm »
First off let me start by saying to any admins that I apologise if this topic isn't appropriate for the forums or something like that. If it isn't feel free to delete the thread :)

Now that that's out of the way, I'm looking for someone to do some art for my channel. I want something to put on my thumbnails and in my avatar etc. (it only has to be one picture, of course)

Unfortunately since funds are low for me at the moment and I have no way of paying people online, it will have to be a volunteer-based thing and I can not offer any money in return for the art, but I'm just hoping there's someone who enjoys drawing and would be willing to do something for me for free :)

Here's my channel, it only has one video on it but hopefully you can get a general idea of what it's like from it. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvc0sUPSo9VkP4BW7b7pDHA

Thanks in advance & Merry Christmas :)

General / Shovelware Developers
« on: December 11, 2014, 04:02:21 pm »
So by the looks of things there hasn't been a thread made for this topic yet, but I've always found it to be an interesting one.
Companies that produce games so awful that they fade into obscurity the second they hit store shelves, not even creating the notoriously bad games that make so many "Bottom 10" lists today.
I've always found it odd that games can be so awful and yet so unrecognised by gamers.
These companies call themselves "Budget developers", and use it as an excuse to create games with the most minimal effort possible, sometimes even rendering the games unplayable.
One of these companies for me is Midas Interactive. I think they were a JP & EU-only team (correct me if I'm wrong) but I own some of their games and oh god are they awful. Skyscraper, for one, is a game I bought from the PS2 "Classics" (and believe me, I use that term VERY loosely) on PSN for about £2 because I thought it'd be a fun, if low budget romp for the night.
Boy, was I wrong. The controls are bugged to hell, the voice acting is laughably awful, the level design resembles a group of waiting rooms & doctors' offices strung together by beige corridors and the flash game-level puzzle you have to complete at the end of EVERY level can sometimes be LITERALLY UNCOMPLETABLE.

So, I ask you, do any of you know of another company like this?
