Classic Video Games / Re: x360 disc(s)

As a newbie I've been going through everything and adding games to my collection and just this morning I found myself enraged that recent Windows DVD games don't say how many disks either.  My frustration is compounded with doubt because the standard plastic case for these games has a spindle that can hold like six DVDs!  Back in my day those PS1 cases were proud to tell you how disks their game needed.

You're right on about the vertical line trick, I can vouch that it works like a charm.  Just be easy on the heat.

I had the Nathan Drake Edition and it wouldn't come out of sleep mode without unplugging it for a while.  Bought it brand new happened the first time within a week.  I thought it might be corrected in a future patch.  After about year it became very regular and one day, unsurprisingly, the HHD corrupted beyond repair.  I bought a 1TB compatible drive, went through all that crap (couldn't hook up an external like you can now) and it killed that HDD after a while too.  I love my PS4 library so I brought a Pro and haven't had a single problem since.

There are so many greats but I'm going to pick the two most unique favs PANIC! (aka Switch) and Phantasy Star Online.  My buddy and I spent hours mapping out every switch NEVER knowing what to expect.  Most of it was hilarious, some of it lost in translation (back then there was no anime/Japanese culture saturation) but always wanting more.  I say Phantasy Star Online solely because at its release and long after I used that sweet built in Dreamcast 56k modem and played every night that I could steal the phone line away.

A co-worker and I were just talking about this great series the other day.  My kids who love minecraft brought it to my attention that there's an Easter egg for AOE.  From the wiki, "If an evoker sees a blue sheep, it will turn the sheep into a red sheep while uttering "wololo". This is a reference to the Priest unit from the Age of Empires real-time strategy game series, which would utter "wololo" while converting enemy units to their own side, changing their color. The evoker specifically uses the sound sample from the 1999 title Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings.

Agree with the something rather than nothing.  Its really all a matter of opinion.  For example I hate sharpie writing on my carts but I don't mind old rental store stickers.   I have found memories of going to the rental store on the weekends and trying to decode what experience a video game might provide from terrible cover artwork alone.  So to me their part of the history, the zeitgiest if you would.
