General / Re: What percentage are you a collector vs a gamer?
« on: December 13, 2021, 06:14:27 pm »
I don't think I could put a percentage but I would say I enjoy collecting a bit more but I spend more time actually playing the games. It would be far too costly and kind of pointless for me to only collect games

Modern Video Games / Re: Forza Horizon 5
« on: November 11, 2021, 06:01:05 pm »
i've really been enjoying horizon 5, ive played all the horizon games since 2 and this is defiantly more of the same just refined. Coming off the back of playing burnout paradise remastered it's been weird going back to a more sim game, horizon is about as close to simulation racers as I'm willing to go but i can see myself playing this entry a lot

yeah I'd be inclined to agree that item number variants just belong in the notes section to avoid cluttering the database, there is seemingly very little difference between these extra entries

They have a couple more randomly free games including Crackdown and Crackdown 2. Not sure you even need Gold for them.
yeah they made the first two crackdown games permanently free during the run up to crackdown 3, to build hype up for the game i guess

General / Re: What are some of your favorite Smash Bros stages.
« on: April 08, 2021, 08:09:31 pm »
Pilotwings is one of mine, very visually interesting stage that pays homage to the series very well. plus it's one of they best to play in labo vr (not like anyone cares anymore but still cool)

Hydro Thunder - quite possibly my favourite series of all time, a great arcade racer that has great track design that makes it's tracks a blast to race on but also feel alive with the scenery. gameplay here is fast and fluid with boosting and collecting boost adding great strategy as well as the incredibly well thought out and well hidden shortcuts that are often necessary to win add a sense of discovery and exploration to the game. the different boats control very differently offering a varied experience for new and veteran players alike

Ridge Racer - Another great arcade racing series with substantially more entries. Ridge Racer is unique for it's incredibly fast and fluid racing massively aided by its almost 'lock on' drift system which makes drifting much faster and easier to pull off than in sim racers and adding to the uniqueness of ridge racer. tracks are well designed and many of the entries are system launch titles that are graphical showcases for their respective system

Modern Video Games / Have patches redeemed cyberpunk 2077?
« on: March 05, 2021, 06:55:07 am »
I've been thinking getting the game when I get a series X
but I want to know what people think, have the recent patches to cyberpunk done enough to fix the game that forced it's publisher to offer refunds and the game to be pulled from PSN
or is the game truly an unfixable game that will never recover from being pushed out early

when posting your opinion mention what platform you played on as well as system model would help (for example experience would differ on base xbox one compared to xbox one x)

I'd have to say gran Turismo 4. It's the first game i ever played and seeing the opening video with this grand music playing then suddenly out of nowhere shifting to this montage of cars speeding round corners in these enviroments i'd never seen before with kasabian's reason is treason blasting in the background. that moment really stuck with me and really set up how action packed games could be for me

Goals for 2021:
  • Expand my 16-bit library
  • Cut down my backlog (I only have 110 games I should probably beat some of them)
  • Not buy fifa 22 (I have a problem)
  • Be more open about my hobby (stop hiding away the fact I like to play ass old games)
  • Reshuffle my room to fit more shelves (I'm currently committing the game collectors sin of stacking most of my games and storing them in cupboards)

General / Re: A Year in Review - 2020

Favourite 2020 Release: Animal Crossing New Horizons (Switch) - I don't usually play most games in their release year but this has just been a fun and relaxing experience for me

Least Favourite 2020 Release: FIFA 21 (Xbox One) - I deserve to be disappointed buying this one, this is literally fifa 20 but the defensive AI is trash now. Not much more to say

Favourite Game Played in 2020: Hydro Thunder (PS1) - A cheap arcade racing game that I found myself having way more fun with then i ever thought I would. It's just so fun to play through over and over again. I have no shame saying this was my favourite game this year

Least Favourite Game Played in 2020: Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (Wii) - technically probably not the 'worst' game I've played this year, however I hate how this game controls and how it pretty much marked the end of one of my favourite series being any good or 'alive' if you want to put that way. This game was probably more disappointing than it was outright bad and the HD remake makes little improvement

Sleeper Hit of 2020: Battletoads (Xbox One) - I don't know this was a really weird category for me to choose so the only thing i could think of was the new battletoads game that's gone under the radar. While not the best game, this is defiantly the way to make a modern battletoads game and it's a good bit of a fun

Favourite Gaming Moment in 2020: Finally getting first place on Nile Adventure in Hydro Thunder after countless attempts, meaning I had finally beaten the game

Proudest Collection Accomplishment of 2020: Hitting 100 games in my collection, while I know this may seem a very small collection to most but this really feels like I've hit my first collecting milestone

It's been good to reflect on my gaming this year, most years I feel the need to do this because of stuff like the game awards and steam awards but I never feel like I can because, I don't play many games in release year but I think this template idea is great and something everyone here should try

I would love to see remakes of hydro thunder and maybe even it's sequel hydro thunder hurricane as hurricane never got a physical release only the digital release on XBLA, these are such great pick up and play arcade racing games I'd love to see full on remakes of them or just a full on new game which is probably most likely, it would probably reuse many boats and tracks like hurricane did but I'd still love to see it made

honestly find new friends, I'm a teenager and nobody gives me shit for playing retro games. Like half of the games i play are older than me but no one questions that, i think you just need to find people that are more accepting of you. It's not like playing offline or older games is a weird or wrong thing to do
