Modern Video Games / Re: The popping of the indie bubble
« on: June 07, 2014, 01:00:17 am »
It's a really unfortunate thing as well because I think indie games got popular because of lack of creativity in game devs. At that time we basically only had Call of Duty and other games trying to be Call of Duty. Now everything has shifted and everybody wants to be indie... On that note, I must say, I didn't care much for braid... It feels so pretentious with the intermissions and the overall story and I think that's what a lot of indie games are. A lot of them are just a product of their time and probably wont be looked back on with a lot of praise.

I don't think the indie scene should be dead, I think it is a good way to keep big devs in check, however it has gone overboard

General / Re: Games that are too expensive
« on: June 05, 2014, 11:03:24 pm »
Sorry to mention Neo Geo again... but I don't think I'll ever get the first Metal Slug game on the AES, just because of rarity and price, last legit copy I saw sold for 3500. Otherwise there are really only a few more games on "mainstream" consoles that I want that, honestly I know it's ridiculous but I'd pay for them... Ninja Gaiden trilogy, Contra 3, snatcher, Earthworm Jim special edition

Xbox
Even though it's been released I actually prefer the xbox original version of doom 3.
Otogi is a fun action-platformer pretty dated but fun.
Gunvalkyrie awesome sega game
jade Empire is good too if you like Bioware games
also if you don't have it yet check out Alien Hominid... I love that game and it never seems to be mentioned a lot. It came out on GC,Ps2 and Xbox.

Off Topic / Re: First cell phone

My first was a galaxy 3... god android sucked, I haven't used one since. I'm on my second windows phone, and I personally like it, however I don't use my phone all the time for everything. It doesn't really get many games or apps but it's pretty neat to sync it with a 360 and computer, makes everything a lot easier to manage

Cool  Someone with a Windows phone lol  :)  I'm really not fully committed because I dont want to have to add a 50 dollar bill every month.  I'd rather buy a 50 dollar game every month  ;)  But i may end up doing it and getting the new Windows 8 phone.

What does it do as far as sync with the 360 and computer?

You can share music some programs and some apps, and it comes with an Xbox 360 program to share achievements and more options to customize your avatar you can also download Microsoft games and earn more achievements... if that's your thing.
It's neat though to change say... a word document on your phone and then when you get home everything is updated and changed on your pc

Modern Video Games / Re: Wii U Online?

I only used it online when I got a free weekend of Wii Sports Club, it was really great and a lot of fun. I only had an issue when I was playing someone in Europe but it still worked decently enough to not effect the gameplay

Not the biggest MK fan, I did like 9 though, I'm wondering where this game is going to take place... after beating the story mode in 9 and what the end hinted at, Im not too excited. I wanna see some gameplay as well. I might pick it up when it's on sale

Classic Video Games / Re: Neo Geo Console System
« on: May 30, 2014, 04:18:59 am »
I personally wouldn't recommend the Neo Geo X, the thing kind of sucks. Not to mention all the crap between Tomo and SNK now. The CDZ isn't too bad on loading times but still kind of pricey. It just really depends, either way if you want a "real" SNK product it's going to be expensive, but with the CD systems the games are dirt cheap, but of course you've got the load times. AES systems used to be slightly cheaper but the games are ten times the price. Of course you can also emulate the Neo Geo through services like MAME, which might be your best course of action right now, see if you enjoy what the library of games has to offer and see for yourself if it is worth the money. As im sure most everyone on this sight knows I personally love the thing, but I can also admit a lot of the early fighting games are "dated"
and because it was an arcade machine, there aren't any games that were competing with Mario and Sonic, the games were designed to steal your money.
Overall though, it is an amazing console that I would highly recommend but do some research on games and give them a play, see if they are worth the thousands of dollars they sometimes command haha

I never ever see Saturn or Sega CD games but do often find dreamcast games but they are usually just average sports games.
Neo Geo stuff though I do find at some used games stores and decent stuff too. Last year I bought my Metal Slug 5 new from a gameforce in the somewhat nicer area of town. That place is great, thinking of picking up their KOF 2002 AES when I can. I also see a lot of Neo Geo big red cabs on craigslist down here too. Honestly, I don't find a lot of Nintendo stuff, I don't know if I'm just missing out at stores or if people are keeping them more. Playstation stuff I find all the time, but not so much Xbox. Some CD-I and 3Do games I find as well, never a console though

Classic Video Games / Re: Any Jaguar collectors?

Very cool on the near complete collection... I wish I could be like that with the Jag but  honestly I really don't like the system at all. Haha I would love to try the doom and Wolfenstein ports with the overlays on the controller but the price is a way too much.
Defender 2000 seems pretty cool as well

Modern Video Games / Re: Wii U 'Fight Pad'
« on: May 24, 2014, 04:51:05 am »
I think it would actually work quite well, it looks like a Saturn model 2 control with the thumb stick of the Neo Geo CD pad.
It would definitely be neat to try if something like this ever comes out... problem is Nintendo doesn't seem to get many fighting games that would utilize it well

These are great! It's nice to get a realistic perspective on all these consoles I've personally been interested in.
I cant wait till you get to the stuff I'm more familiar with... Will we ever see a CPS-Changer review?   ;) haha

Classic Video Games / Re: The fine art of game boxes
« on: May 11, 2014, 01:32:18 am »
I love the ps1 long boxes and of course Saturn cases. I also love the uniformity of turbo grafx games with the color-coded nature of some of their games.
Artwork alone though Neo Geo, so much room that the artists could really do whatever they wanted. Just take a look at KOF 98, it's a party scene with all the characters dressed up. It doesn't advertise the game but it's neat nonetheless

Classic Video Games / Re: Top 3 Games of a Generation
« on: April 27, 2014, 01:41:14 am »
I could see how God of War could be the best PS2 game, maybe not better than MGS 3 but just the scale of the game was insane and clearly those games have had a huge influence on modern games.
This is an interesting idea, Im not even going to attempt the 16 bit generation, haha would be very tough
So for the 32 bit era
#3-Radiant Silvergun- I think it deserves to be on this list, it was a great send off to a dying genre
#2-MGS- Fantastic mature game when there weren't any mature games. Great story, great controls everything is great
#1- Ocarina of Time- Do I need say anything more?
