Modern Video Games / Re: Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii?

  • Demon's Souls
  • Journey
For those two alone the PS3 wins with no contest !

Just beat the Blood-starved Beast (should be done by end of 2015 at this rate) but not really sure where to go now.  Wandered around for a bit but don't really see any other paths.

Beating the BSB gives you the first Chalice so you can start exploring the Chalice Dungeons. Chalice Dungeons can be crafted in the Hunter's Dream, they are optional content but you can find nice stuff and quite a challenge in there.

To continue the main storyline you should go back to the cathedral and search a way to explore the upper city of Yharnam.

Got Platinum trophy for this game 2 weeks ago and captured most of the key battles of the game on a youtube playlist, maybe some videos there can help you if you're in trouble facing a boss.

And if you got questions it's more likely I can give some *insight*, the Fextralife wiki should do that for me though. :D

I've been listening a lot to Dance With the Dead lately, a strange mix of synthwave, guitar and modern sampling.

I live in France, in a 200k population city called Rennes since 20 years. Before moving there with my family I grew up in the mountains in the S.E. of the country.

It's an old and cheap technique but I used to buy a bunch of sports/crap games nobody wants in mint condition - even with blister - especially to replace my cases. It helped me a lot with my NTSC-US Saturn cases for example and I had them less than $5 each.

I use my skills in web development everyday for my full-time job but i'll be glad to give a hand for a bit of code or at least discuss in your tech forum if I that can help.

Bienvenue!

It's great to see fellow French speaker! I understand your woes of collecting NTSC in a PAL territory. Although I am Canadian, I moved away for a few years into a PAL territory (that has no retro gaming culture) and finding games in next to impossible.

Merci! ;)

For most games I have to import them as well but luckily there are some cool online sellers with fair prices in UK and Netherlands that got a lot of NTSC stuff, when available it saves me the import taxes. It's usually harder to get US than JP though...

General / Re: The most difficult game you ever beat?
« on: May 18, 2015, 09:31:55 am »
My latest high difficulty achievement was getting Platinum trophy on Metal gear Rising. I got Platinum for all Souls games (Demon's, Dark, Dark 2, Bloodborne) but that was a breeze compared to MG:R. That was really insane : youtube playlist.

Retro speaking I recall Ghouls and ghosts on Genesis being my nemesis for a while.

This is indeed very tempting but I'm kinda mistrustful of the actual rendering of the game since they state that they will use 2,5D and we don't see any ingame gameplay. Mighty N°9 is also a revival project of a cult 2D franchise in 2,5D and the result is graphically really disappointing IMHO, it doesn't match the charm of the 2D installments.

Played exclusively Bloodborne last month so now I have my Platinum i'm going back on clearing some other games I started before BB ate all my free-time (and my soul):
  • Story of Thor 2
  • Shadow of Mordor DLCs
  • Apotheon
  • Wolfenstein the New Order

My last additions:
  • Panzer Dragoon Saga PAL - pics
  • Complete Strike series on NTSC SEGA hardware - pics and pics

It's been years I wanted to get my hands on PDS, i'm so glad the PAL version works on NTSC mode on my JP Saturn since I really wanted to play it in 60Hz and the PAL version has those gorgeous boxes! Best RPG ever for me ♥

The Strikes are still awesome to play. I like those yellow-tabbed cartridges that remind me that long ago, EA were kinda pirating SEGA hardware to sell their games...

Nice to meet you, fellow collectors :)

I've been using VGC for quite some time, and it's about time I show up in the forums..

I'm a gamer from France and I collect mainly retro NTSC games and hardware - not a easy task in our PAL territories. I have a retrogaming room project that I'll be able to start by 2016 when my house construction will be over, I'll post some updates on my progress if you like !

I'm working in IT engineering as a front-end developer and I'm running a small blog about my hobbies, it's written in french though.. ;)

In advance I apologize if my english is a bit flawed, it's not my native language  :-X

Hardware and Tech / Re: PlayStation One Memory Card Fail

Greetings all, first post here. :D

Please note that it's not reliable to test a third-party PS1 memory card on a PS2 system since the PS2 expects the card to have the encrypted Sony key on it, and if it doesn't the memory card will not appear at all in the system browser. Some third party cards may then seem not to work when you try it on a PS2 but if you plug it in a PS1 the files may be there, just that the memory card is not recognized.

My personal blog is written in french but this post illustrates the problem, with a bit of Google translate + pictures it should be fairly self-explanatory.

My advise would be to try the card on a PS1 system and see if your files are there. And yes, by all means, use official cards whenever possible. ;)
