Popful Mail for Sega CD. I think it was about $150.

Was I the first one to notice the Mugen Souls Z game case banner is blue? New PS3 standard? To heck with uniformity! I liked the black banner better for PS3.

I didn't notice it until someone pointed it out over on CAG.  Until I see one in stores with my own eyes tho, it's just some colorblind art guy.  :P

But uniformity went out the window w/ PS3 covers after they ditched the Spider-Man font.  But I think that was a small price to pay.  ;)

I suppose, I guess this makes three different PS3 standards. Same with Xbox though, I dunno if anyone noticed but 360 game banners post-Xbox One are now the same grassy green as Xbox One, instead of lime.

Classic Video Games / Re: Poll: How do you pronounce NES

Yeah for me it was always regular Nintendo, as opposed to the Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Nintendo that followed. But now that there's so many Nintendos, N E S seems to best describe it.

The only time I was tricked was by a couple of counterfeit DS games on eBay back in 09. Just don't buy anything from China, or with only a stock photo. Most know this, but I was a newbie then. It would have been fine by me, except that the carts didn't play on my DSi, also the instruction manuals did not contain any instructions.

Aww, lots of love for the DS ;D Pretty much my favourite system, and it shows in my own numbers:

Pretty much all of my DS games I've picked up in the last year since getting my 3DS, and there are many more I'd still like to grab.  I told one of the guys at Gamestop the other day that when they finally put their DS games on clearance, my wallet is going to hurt!  :P

I can't wait for that day, in a way. Lots of new games!  :) I already got a few for $3 and under last year at Gamestop, so I guess it's starting slowly. But since the 3DS has retro-compatibility, I wonder if it will take longer for them to be on clearance.

Don't be wishin' that day upon us! I love the DS, and want it to stay relevant forever if possible. I love finding the cases in their trash. Besides, more than half the DS library is already below $10 there.

It's close between Xbox 360 and PS2. PS2 has not been archived in the last couple of years and is demanding a recount. I have about 180 Xbox 360 games. It was the multi-platform of choice, games spanning from 2005 until current releases, so naturally there will be a lot. Honorable mentions go to NES and DS, with around 120 on each - just great platforms with multitudes of awesome content.

Why is it that I now feel compelled to add this Wappy Dog to the DS collection? ???

As long as the seller doesn't try to pass it off as an original, or charge what others charge for the original, then I'm fine with reproductions. If there's one thing I don't care for, it's the perceived monetary value of an old game. I'm not a collector in any traditional sense of the word. So if repros were made to supplement some of the super inflated price carts, I wouldn't mind, again so long as they price them accordingly and say they are pepros.

Price at the register, it might be that $0.62 copy of Wappy Dog I bought the other day at Big Lots.

But if you count post-sale promotions, I actually got paid some obscene amount of money to play Halo 4 thanks to in-store promotions at BB + some American Express offers MS was running where they actually gave you money for beating the game.  :P

Not sure what Wappy Dog is, but that's where I found some 3DS games for $2.

If I could impart any wisdom, it would be the following

- Do not count your chickens before they hatch... err.. something like that. In other words, don't get caught up worrying about a million different games you want at the same time, focus on certain titles. Know the games you want, not just the name, but why you want them. Research the kind of games you're into and for what platforms. Which leads me to my second point...

- Don't go all willy buying everything you come across, try to stick to making informed choices. While quantity can be impressive, quality is more so. Try to refrain from impulses, unless you've got a really good feeling about the content or the value of what you have found. Game hunting is a great idea of just starting out, but waiting 6 months and some change to find a game you'd like to have for $3.50, instead of shelling the $25 to go ahead and get is a very small victory in the grand scheme.

- I wouldn't recommend going for any complete collections unless you've got lots of money, lots of time, and live in a densely populated area. While it's just my opinion, completionists end up spending a lot of time and money buying lots of junky stuff out of necessity. There's more junk out there, than there is good stuff.

- If you find games that appear to be boxed or cased, always check that it's actually inside, and if it's a disc check the condition. The one time you take this for granted, it will bite you.

- The time to buy something rare is when you see it (in the wild). Otherwise, you'll regret it.

- If you're going to flea markets, get up no later than 5:30 AM and go, take a flash light if you need one. Be there as people selling arrive and set up, and no later.

- If you're into collecting modern on the cheap, don't discount GS as some evil empire because they offered you $4.83 for that game you brought in that one time. They're everywhere and their used games are heavily discounted. 2,500 games under $20, as they say.

... and that's all she wrote.

 :P

Interesting topic I think. I thought of this a few days ago after I came across a dirt cheap sealed Splinter Cell 3D (3DS) for exactly $2. The only sealed game I ever got cheaper than that, was a copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula (SCD) for $1.

There's an old receipt in one of my Sega CD games, I forget which. Think it was from Funcoland and dated around 1994, showed a couple of games the guy had traded in to buy the SCD game.

There are two Metroid Prime: Hunters NDS [NA] pages. The bogus one is the one with no colon in the name "Metroid Prime Hunters", cataloged by only one user.

I don't see a guide specifying where a hundred and one different things should check out before submitting like with other sites. I'm mostly wondering, is there a specific image size that is or isn't allowed? Can cover images taken from the Internet be submitted? Obviously no watermarks I'm sure, but does it matter the source?
