Awesome Mega Jet, dude! I'd never even heard of them before.

Flash forward two years and sealed copies of SS:KtJ will be going for ten dollars or less, same as Anthem. Those are my thoughts.

I've started buying sealed PS4 lots. Now really is the time to get in, some of the big, iconic titles for the system are going dirt cheap.

I wouldn't ever say that this place was really all that happening. Nintendo Age, Assembler, etc, they always had a lot more talk to go around.

Just a reminder, since nobody seems to have brought it up yet, BlastCorps was a launch window game for N64 which partially explains why it was so basic. Rare were real heroes on the 64 and it's a shame the MS sale happened.

Anyways, my thoughts...

Banjo-Kazooie- Didn't own back in the day but remember playing in Treasure Trove Cove at a kiosk. Great game, great music, like Mario 63 with more inspired level gimmicks.

Banjo-Tooie. I did have this one and the soundtrack is burned into my mind, it is the background music of my life. The "lightly continuing" plot and interconnected overworld feel like a preview of the PS2 era of platformers that were in development during it's release.

Blast Corps- As I said, more tech demo than game, still fun though.

Conker- Just watched LPs of this one, though I own it. The jokes look more fun than the gameplay, making it perfect for a watch.

DK Racing- Heck yeah, this was my jam back in the day, loved playing multiplayer in the igloo. Music is great too, even though the midi tracks hurt my ears now.

DK 64- Just rented this one back in the day due to not owning a memory pak. Everyone complains about backtracking for bananas in this game but the truth is that the level design sucked too. Other then Frantic Factory, Angry Aztec and the final boss fight level traversal was a pain. I loved DKC 1+2 but skip this please.

GoldenEye- Loved this game so much I brought a GameShark just to get even more out of it.

Jet Force Gemini- Never played, heard it gets hard fast, some of the game's music is boss though. It's a shame that an all ages single player shooter like this can't get made in this day and age. I bet one would be successful, this game.at least looks like an N64 fortnight character-wise.

KI Gold- Never played, heard that this was the least good KI game.

Mickey's Speedway- Should be a hit on paper but just isn't, I guess the A-team we're doing JFG instead. Also some characters are locked behind Gameboy connectivity, and nuts to that.

Perfect Dark- Another one that I didn't have as a kid due to the memory pak. Shame as I loved GE and this looks like the missing link between it and later console shooters.

I started the thread specifically about the pandemic. I just didn't want to say Covid in the title in case this place had some weird rule about it. Thats what I meant by 2020 bubble.

So I've been on an e-bay spree over the past month and a half, and part of that has been a lot of price charting checks. I think its been enough time to finally make this statement definitively- 2020 bubble prices for most retro/last gen games peaked in August and have been declining since then. They are still well above Feb. prices but the first gen of new "buy at any price" owners have gone through their want list and might even start or have started reselling stuff or trading in to stores.

Caveat, I've mostly been looking at Nintendo stuff, did a little checking for PS2 but most of those games didn't have a bump (Vice City, which already had been trending upward for a year or so did get a bump but is still holding steady at around ten dollars complete with no downturn in sight) so no usable data there.

Here's hoping that this all leads to a whole new wave of garage sale finds in three to five years!

To fill the gaping hole in my life with stuff, of course.

Does someone want to delete the Australian NES listing of Secret of Mana?

Classic Video Games / Re: Game that Never Released that You Wish Had?
« on: January 09, 2020, 01:44:41 am »
I remain eternally curious about Echo Delta for the DD. I wish it had been released, even willing to trade one of the Mario Artist releases for it. My suspicion is that the game would be very basic by modern standards and only a curiosity, but still. Something about it really sticks out to me. Single unit(?) RTS where you play as a submarine underwater. As I said, its a shame we didn't get it.

I feel like getting out of it sometimes, to be honest.

They take up so much space. They are jam packed in my shelving units to the point where adding new titles is a dreaded, time consuming affair. And updating all my damn charts.... most of the time I don't even end up playing the game.

Scalpers/pricecharting/call-aheads have killed the thrill of the hunt for yardsales and fleamarkets and games seem to not show up at all at auctions these days (or, once again, someone leaving a left bid for slightly under the pricecharting price.) I've taken the past year or so off from buying, for the most part (had one big purchase of SNES RPGs and thats it,) and honestly feel pretty good about it.

But selling it all comes with its own sense of dread. I have so many big box computer games from the 80s, for systems I don't even own. I've had some up in my attic for the past few years and I'm paranoid that they'll melt or whatever. No way to test them, I don't have a Commodore, Tandy or any of the other things they were compatible with, nor the tape drive to play them. So I'd hate to be offloading junk goods on someone, let alone even trying to find a buyer for that stuff. A lot of my PS2 and Xbox stuff is scratched, it would all have to be tested too and I dread doing that.

If your games are already boxed, I would recommend just getting plastic slips they are the same price and still display your boxes. If you are mostly loose then  I guess it could be handy for N64, what with its lack of spine-art and all, but I still don't really see the point for SNES.

At least some of the generic Chinese vendors who make plastic box protectors also make cartridge sized plastic protectors, which can be found on ebay. Then you can resize and print out cover-art from the sources mentioned in that old thread, if you want, or make your own.

I've heard its terrible to play but I just love both the real life and in-game backstories to Mecharobot Golf, it's a shame it's so obscure.

I have this giant (5'6" by 8'6" by 1'6") black home made shelving unit I call the monolith. I keep the games double stacked in there. It's not the best way to display but I have very limited space.

Wikipedia is not a trusted source.

Either of these titles are valid here:
007: From Russia with Love (from Mobygames)
From Russia with Love (from GameFAQs)

However, the actual title of the game is: From Russia with Love starring Sean Connery as James Bond 007
I just looked the game up and they even listed it as that on the case's spine. Oh man, what were they thinking? Surely must have been a stipulation from Connery's people in exchange for using his likeness.
