Dark Souls - PS3 Limited Edition [NA]
https://vgcollect.com/item/89194

This edition does not exist in North America.  Image on this database entry is also the European version.  Entry should be deleted.

We got the Collector's Edition, which is correct: https://vgcollect.com/item/19308

Kid Icarus Uprising AR Card 016: Dark Pit
https://vgcollect.com/item/123562
I made a booboo by uploading a picture of the card under "Item/cart/disc" category instead of "front cover". It made more sense that way, but when searching for it the results show "No Art".  Please delete the "Item/cart/disc" entry of the image.

Oh, wow, this is dangerous to my wallet.  I'm more or less just starting my NES collection, so I'm interested in almost everything.

Would you make deals for a bulk of games?

Wat?

3DS games are $40.  $20 is not a price that I've seen release day for 3DS games... ever.  As for the Switch titles, I've seen games as cheap as $20 and as much as $60 on release day.

Games are regularly $20 on Amazon after not a lot of time.  Maybe not release day, sure, and maybe not for the big name Mario or Pokemon games, but a substantial number of them do go down to around $20 given a bit of time, many to $30.  When you're a kid from a not rich family, you generally have to wait on mommy or daddy to agree to buy games for you, and this is a lot of the market for Nintendo.  Release day is simply not a factor for many people.

As for Switch, there are like 5 games for it (sarcasm, but really there aren't many).  I hope that this does become a trend though and that they continue to release games that are affordable and worthwhile stuff that people actually want.

Switch is $299, 3DS at launch was $249 I think.  Not too far off.

Not too far, but 3DS had a slow start for the first year or so if I remember correctly, followed by a price drop that helped it along.  I think Switch will do well as a handheld, but more games plus a bit of a price drop would help it along.

Another thing to keep in mind is not just the price of the console, but the prices of the games as well, which is triple that of 3DS games.  I really hope that publishers don't stick with the full $60 price point for simpler handheld titles.

I swear, some of the complaints that come from fellow gamers make my head hurt. I went to one of my regular boards and there are these two morons on there complaining about Tales of Berseria. One of the complaints has to do with its combat. All of the complaints lead to one conclusion: he's not good at the game. Therefore, the game must be bad. Ugh. The other complaint was that the weapon, armor, etc. names aren't cool enough.

...

I mean, what? That made me face-palm.

I feel the need to say it again: this website and all of the folks on here are wonderful. It's always a joy to come here and interact with y'all. Never change.

Haha.  I haven't played that game, but could it be that the Tales style just isn't his cup of tea?  I found myself annoyed playing co-op in Tales of Vesperia; it seemed like the game was constantly throwing in new combat systems to learn before I really had a firm handle on the others.  Compared with a Star Ocean game it just didn't feel intuitive to me.

It might have been the more interrupted nature of playing co-op, though, I dunno, or not being used to the XBox 360 controller, but that was the main reason I played the game in the first place.  It's the only Tales game I have really, played, though.

Does Berseria do that better, at least?

The Switch is THE Handheld.  IMO, it's the best handheld ever made.  It was just marketed wrong as a console.  It's a handheld that will connect to your TV.

Quite an expensive handheld, at that.  I think a big part of the success and draw of the original Game Boy all the way though the 3DS was that they were that much more affordable for people of all ages.  While the Switch isn't at a bad price, it may not reach the level of success that the DS family has had (at least for a while), especially since it lacks backwards compatibility.

It's pretty interesting that the NA, EU & JP all ended up getting distinct styles that each region seems to stick to. I'm not sure if it was a communicative effort to differentiate between regions or just someone really dedicated to separating them, but I think overall they are in a good place. You listed both an EU & JP (as well as one being a set) listing, so the styles do not sync up perfectly under those rules.

Yeah, I guess if it was intentional it's fine, like if it's based on some official thing I don't know about.  It might have just been that one person added most of the amiibos to the site, though.  I just thought it strange since the [EU], [JP] or [NA] tags differentiate them already.  We don't call Japanese PlayStation games "playstation [JP]" and European ones "PlayStation [EU]" for example.

The thing about the set wasn't my point, just the capitalization at the beginning.

One more point is that the US ones look like this: https://vgcollect.com/item/95209 with just the name of the amiibo, which is different from both of the other regions. (example "Blathers - Animal Crossing [NA]"

Legend of Zelda Gold Cartridge Backpack (it literally looks like a giant cartridge) [OfferUp $25]

Really disappointed with the condition Persona 5 came in.  Outer box was dented in one corner and coming apart at the seams across the super-cheap flimsy cardboard inside.  I'm going to attempt to return it to Best Buy, but I really just want another one instead of a refund.  Hope they still have the deluxe version available... :(

The other stuff I feel pretty good about.  It's more fun and convenient to get stuff from the swap meet or thrift store, but there are better deals using OfferUp or Craiglist.  It's just annoying having to drive all the way across town and meet up with buyers when it's convenient for them, since as a night-shifter it's always inconvenient for me.  Got stood up by one guy who was supposed to sell me some strategy guides for $5 each. :(

Video Game Database Discussion / Amiibo standardization
« on: April 11, 2017, 05:15:31 am »
Browsing the Amiibo category I've noticed something that really stands out.  There are two general ways each is listed:

"Amiibo: XXX" https://vgcollect.com/item/95210
or
"amiibo: XXX" https://vgcollect.com/item/85010

Should we agree upon a standard capitalization and apply it across the board?

Are there any shelves that any of you would recommend for displaying the game collection?

At the moment I'm just using a big Ikea bookshelf and a bunch of those cheap 4x4 cube shelves from Wal-Mart.  This works for a small to mid-sized collection, but it's definitely going to outgrow itself soon.  Can't really recommend it.  ;D

I'm looking at maybe getting some of those old cartridge storage organizers for my NES and SNES games, then just stacking them on the shelf to make better use of the space.  Also, I could take games out without messing up the whole row or stack.  Gotta find a buyer, though.

Off Topic / Re: Has anyone ever sold at a Flea Market or Yard Sale?
« on: April 11, 2017, 04:03:18 am »
I've been finding deals at one of the local swap meets since one of the sellers will haggle with me.  It's easier to talk them down when buying multiple items.  For me as long as it's within the average pricecharting.com price I'll take it.

It's been really rare to get games for just a few dollars, though there are some decent finds like that for PS1 & PS2 games at my thrift stores.  I could find stuff at pawn stores too since there's a lot of them, but I just can't get as excited for modern games.  Seems to be okay for GBA, though.

Offerup and Craiglist has been the best, though, since it's often just people cleaning out their closets instead of resellers.

Nice!  I placed my order on Captain Toad; thanks for the heads-up!
