General / The Story of the Midnight Club Cover Car
« on: August 10, 2018, 12:39:00 am »
So, for those who are fans of older racing games, you'll surely know the first Midnight Club game. [ https://vgcollect.com/item/1692 if you don't know it for whatever reason]

Something that made the first game stand out from the rest of the series was the live-action cover and intro cinematic.

The folks at VINwiki.com actually had a talk with the owner of the yellow sports car featured on the cover, which can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK_TDz8F-dE

I have no clue if anyone else finds this interesting or not. :P I just find it fascinating hearing about the late 90's street racing scene. I do believe I played way too much NFSU and Create-A-Ride when I was young.

Absolutely. The manager at the local game store would be able to buy a Mercedes with how much I'd spend there, haha. :P

Although I'm complaining about games I haven't played, I'm really not a fan. They look pretty bad. I like the concept, but I think it would work better as a multiplayer mode in a game like Battlefield 1 or Grand Theft Auto V.

Video Game Database Discussion / Open Source games?
« on: January 11, 2018, 01:54:59 am »
I recently downloaded Rigs of Rods and I didn't find it available to add to my collection. I would have added it, but I am not sure how to classify it, given its abandonware, developed by fans, and has never been officially released. Some of the people who developed it initially went on to make BeamNG.drive. If you can help me out or point me to a previous forum post on this topic, it would be much appreciated. Cheers!

General / Re: Some gems you have in your collections
« on: September 15, 2017, 12:47:09 am »
I don't really ever collect games because of the rarity. I collect them if they look interesting to me. But, one that comes to mind is auto modellista on Xbox as it is supposedly rarer, even if I prefer using the PlayStation 2. According to a quick glance over eBay, it's selling for US$15-$30, but I got my copy earlier in 2017 for US$6.99! :D There's probably some other rare games in my collection, feel free to thumb through (even though you may be browsing on a computer) to see if I'm sitting on any gems and don't know it. I don't have all of the purchase prices listed on them yet, though. Some of them had the price tags removed and or receipts lost long ago, unfortunately.

Stuntman for the PlayStation 2. Had to use a cheat device to turn off the time limit on some of the last levels. Took me a few years to even get to the final movie, and that wasn't using cheats.

General / Re: What is the first RPG/JRPG you ever played?
« on: August 22, 2017, 01:11:13 am »
Everquest was the first for me. Although, I never really caught the RPG bug. The only game that I've played since that could remotely be considered an RPG would be the NTSC version of Choro Q HG 2.

Actually captioned these myself.

There aren't a lot of bad games in my collection, per se. Although, one that I do think is quite bad is Monster Truck Madness 64. The trucks control like a super fast tank on a sheet of ice. I've also heard that Top Gear RPM Tuning (unrelated to the television show) is pretty bad, but I have yet to play it. There's also "Trucker" for PC in my collection, haven't played it in years, but I remember it being pretty awful.

General / Take-Two Shuts Down OpenIV, Cripples Modding
« on: June 15, 2017, 12:46:19 am »
Now, if you are even slightly familiar with the PC gaming community, you will likely heard of mods. Some of you may have already heard of this story as well.

For those who don't know, PC game mods allow the player to change the game however they like. Whether it's adding in a cool new sports car concept to the game, making a gun that fires sharks at people, or millions of other things.

So, onto the story, Rockstar Games' parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has shut down the modding tool OpenIV, which, as the name implies, came out originally for Grand Theft Auto IV and evolved into a tool for Grand Theft Auto V. On June 5, 2017 Take-Two sent the team behind OpenIV a cease and desist letter, and the OpenIV team complied and shut the project down.

There are a few theories of why this could have happened, and the one that I immediately think of is this: Damage control. Take-Two probably thought "oh, this tool is a danger to our game." But, there's a problem with that - Why not sooner? This product has been out for a decade. If Take-Two wanted to shut it down because it was a danger, they would have done years ago.

Here is a link to a news article from GameZone on the event: http://www.gamezone.com/news/take-two-declares-modding-for-grand-theft-auto-v-illegal-main-modding-tool-shut-down-3454656

Well, VGCollect forum users, what do you think? Do you support Take-Two for taking action on this tool or do you support OpenIV for making the game more open to customization?

My username's origin isn't too crazy, it's just the name of one of the cars from FlatOut 2:

General / Favourite Licensed Soundtracks?
« on: May 20, 2017, 01:27:30 am »
I was wondering what other users' favourite licensed video game soundtracks are. By licensed, I mean songs that are by real-world bands. So no games like Grand Theft Auto 1 with it's made-for-game bands and no games like Sonic the Hedgehog with it's composed soundtrack. Soundtracks have either of the above and licensed songs such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Burnout Paradise are eligible.

My personal favourites, in no particular order would be Crazy Taxi [Dreamcast NA], Burnout 3: Takedown [PS2 NA], Tony Hawk's Underground 2 [PS2 NA], Grand Theft Auto: Vice City [PS2 NA], Need for Speed: Underground [PS2 NA], Saints Row 2 [X360 NA], Grand Theft Auto V [PS4 NA], FlatOut [PS2 NA], FlatOut 2 [PS2 NA], Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories [PS2 NA], MotorStorm [PS3 NA], Stuntman Ignition [PS3 NA], PGR 2 [Xbox NA] and Need for Speed: ProStreet [PS3 NA].

Also, I am new to using forums on websites, so constructive criticism is welcomed. :)
