I played all of them except Mickey. I loved Killer Instinct Gold and Goldeneye. The others were not for me, I just was never a 3d platformer kind of guy. I want to go back to Perfect Dark sometime, I love cyberpunk settings.

But KI Gold is amazing in my top 5 for N64 (along with non-Rare games Starfox 64, Waverace 64, Robotron, and Sin and Punishment).

I was one of the first people I knew that got into Pokemon in the US. I was in 6th grade when Red and Blue came out and an acquaintance of mine was the first person I knew who got the game and the first time I'd ever heard of Pokemon. Then a close friend of mine got it, then I did. At first I was just obsessed with the game, but then when the cards came out, holy shit! I also religiously watched the anime at like 6:30am every morning before it went to Kids WB in the US. Pokemon really hit its stride in fall of 1999 or so when I started 7th grade; that's when Pokemon the first movie came out, Pokemon cards were cardboard gold, and the anime started getting new dubbed episodes. I lived and breathed Pokemon all the time whether it was the cards, games, anime, or any other Pokemon merch I could scam my parents into buying for me.


My initial Pokemon fandom did fade around the time Gold and Silver came out and was more or less dead by 2001 or so. However, those couple of years I was balls to the wall obsessed with it were incredible. I associate Pokemon as that last little flicker of my childhood before I became an angsty, depressed, cynical adolescent and because of that I deeply cherish my memories of when Pokemon first came out. Had it come out a few years later I probably would have passed on it completely. My wife is a few years younger than me and she also has super find memories of playing Pokemon and collecting the cards when she was in elementary school. So yeah, if you were born after 1985 or so I'd say you missed out.

I think you and I are about the same age. It was sixth grade for me and I was one of the first, buying it opening weekend based on Nintendo Power previews. And I'm also old enough that I initially thought it was a sequel to Monster in my Pocket.

I excitedly bought Gold when it came out, but never finished it. I had faded out then. I think I spent a week with it at best.

This is my most nostalgic console. It was far frome my first, but I got it at the sweet spot of just turning 13, it takes me bavk to late night gaming sessions, watching toonami and adults swim. Picked it up at launch, so that helps with the nostalgia. The hype was huge.

Favorite game is tough. Shenmue blew my mind. But, I put the most time into Crazy Taxi. So, maybe have to give the nod to that.

Uh, it's FAR from the worst. Sonic 06? Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric? Sonic the Hedgehog: Genesis?

and i agree with that, it's the exact same thing for the genesis aswell sonic 1 is the worst of the 2d sonics.

For the game gear, i think sonic blast is the worst. It was 2d on game gear. Then sonic 2 i think was bad. The zoomed in screen from the sms version made it close to unplayable at the first boss. Sonic 1 was zoomed in as well, but i feel didnt affect it until the later levels with the lightning that fills the screen. Might be scrap brain.

All an opinion, but sonic 1 on gg was good.

I'm a huge sega fan and will pass on the micro. I would potentially grab one if it was also a key chain. The purchase would be 90 percent for a keychain and 10 percent to play. Then soon to be 100 percent key chain as the keys scratch the hell out of the screen. But it just looks to be a really small game gear with few games.

Hoping for more on the fourth. I wrote for 2 websites specializing in sega previously. And sega would always do big teasers with underwhelming reveals. Likely this will be the same. They kept using revolutionary in their sega forever campaign, so im expecting a continuation of the now defunct service on next gen consoles and more.

But it is anyones guess. A lightbulb teaser meant two point hospital was coming.

I've been going for complete sets on all SEGA consoles since about 2012. I just completed the 32x set in September with Web of Fire. I haven't been going strongly though for a while. I mainly chose to go for a complete set just because I enjoy the consoles. It also kind of allows me not to load my house down with more consoles. If I wasn't going for a complete set, I would probably own a NES, SNES, etc etc. But knowing I have the complete sets to work on, I'm pretty content with digital for everything else whether steam, emulators, android, etc.

And X-Men 2: The Clone Wars is one of the best beat-em ups on any system. That was a big reason why I bought a Genesis back in the day (after already owning a SNES, though).

I am gonna say, though, that the Genesis's sound SUCKED! I hate the farty noises that often come out of it, and the soundtracks of so many games just sound so similar.

X-Men 2 is in my top 10 games. Along with Comix Zone. Best 2d platform beat em ups.

I also am definitely one of the odd men out in liking the Genesis sound better than the SNES. The SNES was too much reverb like sound. But both systems had songs that really highlight each system's strengths.

Out of the classic systems, it's definetly the NES for me. That's the system that really made me a gamer. My older sister had an Atari 2600, but it never held my attention long. It was Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Star Soldier in particular that initially grabbed my attention, and I still love collecting for the system today. Some of the greatest gaming series that still continue to this day began on this system, and it's the system that saved the U.S. console market.

After that the SNES, followed by the Genesis. The SNES took everything great about the NES, and made it better with better graphics, better sound, a better controller, and bigger games. The Genesishas such a deep library of great 16-bit gems that are relatively unknown, and still cheap, that it's a great collector's system. Every retro collector should have those 3 systems, IMO, or at least a Retron or something similar that can play them.

I agree very much that the super Nintendo took what was great about the NES and made it better. I have always thought super Nintendo was the most appropriate name for a console.

I know have a complete us 32x collection. Just acquired Spider-Man. Not sure if that counts as it is an add on. But I am slowly going for all the sega console complete sets. I figure I have my whole life to work on it. Collecting is its own activity. Even buying only the best games, I will get more games than I play. I mean I've accidentally gotten too many in steam just from sales.

I I enjoy going for a complete set.

I still would love to see a modern smash tv as a first person shooter. Some games like serious Sam approximate this where you get locked in a room with wage after wave coming at you. But I would like to have a game really dive into the core of that. No story or plot besides game show. Ridiculously overpowered. Tons of trash enemies with a few powerful ones appearing.

I would love it.

Also thought of a text adventure where you are at a console in a locked room. You have access to surveilence equipment of some type. And having to navigate a person to you room to help you and them escape while avoiding the danger whether it is a monster. Evil group of humans etc.

The genesis, SNES, and NES are pretty interchangeable to me. I collect the sega genesis mainly for a focus area. Nintendo is too expensive right now and I did tend to streets of rage, comic zone, and sonic more than the Nintendo properties. However, I was a Nintendo kid. I started collecting for the NES originally back in 99 or 2000. Don't regret stopping it. Regret selling my stuff going to college a bit. But fully expect to collect those two Nintendo systems again in the future.

But ultimately, there is nothing more 90s retro gaming than sega. They helped define that era with mascot platformers, arcade hits, and general attitude.

I do speed run games. But not competitively. However, for 8 bit and 16 bit games, I like to have them mastered to the degree that I can beat them really quickly. Most of the games are set to be beat under an hour once you know how. And it is nice to sometimes come home from work and pop in Sonic 2 or Comix Zone and just blast through a game I have mastered.

I play a few sports games a lot.

EA NCAA Football series
NBA Jam
2K Football and Basketball series (SEGA era)
NFL Blitz
Ice Hockey on NES
Virtua Tennis series

I played every one of the above a lot. Generally sports games have become very simulation based vs arcade based. This is good. However, I don't know or like an actual sport enough to understand the simulation aspect. I do like how the NHL EA series has brought back the classic mode which features three buttons. I just felt like a wuss every time I activated it.

The Blizzard trilogy of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo for me. For all three franchises, my play time is not measured in hours or days but weeks or months.

Other addictive games are plants vs zombies. The wife and I stayed up all night playing it on our first play through. I also found Tropico 4 and Stardew valley tough to put down recently.
