Video Game Database Discussion / Re: How to list rental cases
« on: May 06, 2018, 07:35:32 am »
I know there are some Sega rental games from EU (Scandinavia I think?) that are listed on sites as being Genesis games, but I have always skipped putting them into the database. Part of the reason was that I never see pictures of them online. And then I even own rental cases for various stores that are just the company paperwork with a printed name, and did not add those. Nor do we add the custom case artwork that Gamestop and other stores use to package their games.

I'm not sure about what you describe, can you post a picture or a link to what one looks like?

Hey all
This is the rental game I an inquiring about.

Video Game Database Discussion / How to list rental cases

Hey there
I have a Metal Gear Solid 1 Blockbuster rental and I'm wondering how I should list it onto the database. I'm not sure if I put it under the normal games and add " - Blockbuster Rental" at the end or if there is another section for rentals (if so I couldn't find it). Could someone please clarify for me please. Thank you.

Hey there
I have a official PS3 Wireless Controller specifically for the PS3 reference tool. On the boox it is written as "Wireless Controller for Reference Tool" and underneath that is says "DECR-1010U".
Can I just confirm with someone that if I'm to add this to the database that it does go into the PS3 Accessories section and I add it as the following
   Wireless Controller for Reference Tool
and in the alt name
   DECR-1010U

Get back to me whenever.
Cheers,

Hey there
Thank you for clarifying all of this for me. If I need to list any more of these kind of demos into the database, I will take into consideration the naming conventions for doing so. Thank you again.

Video Game Database Discussion / Demo listings
« on: December 21, 2017, 02:27:11 pm »
Hey there
I'm confused about PS1 demo listings for the database. I'm hoping someone can clear this up for me.
How is a PlayStation 1 demo disc meant to be listed on the database? If it gets listed Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 3 then the order in which it is listed on the database is wrong as it appears as the following:
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 29
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 3
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 30
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 31
If it gets listed as Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 03 then it appears as:
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 02
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 03
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 04
Now I requested some changes to demo names from 1, 2 and 3 to 01, 02 and 03 which were approved but then when I tried to do the others, they were not approved so can one of the database managers please tell me the correct way to list demo discs and then please correct it on the database so it is listed correctly please?
Thank you in advance.

Alright point taken. So can you please summarise then the way in which demos should be listed just so I am 100% clear please? I've got a load coming soon and just want to be sure in case they aren't already on the database.

See I think for the standard way for demo listings to be done should be as follows. This is just how I see it at least with demo discs.
So for PS1 demos it's like this.
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Disc 00

I know as you said that demo discs do have text on the front like the Legacy of Khan one which you pointed out but I'm looking at that demo disc right in front of me and that text along with the rest on the front of the case is all just marketing stuff. The developers prob paid the most to get there game on the demo disc so they got the big fancy writing on the front. Most collectors I know that go for the demo discs like myself I know look at the disc number on the side of the case so then it can be matched with the disc in the case along with the SCED number. As for the additional text on the front, someone can just make note of it in the item description just to help out people.

As for the PlayStation 2 I think it should be along the lines of this
PlayStation 2 Official Magazine UK Demo Disc 87 / July 2007

This again is how it appears on the side of the case. As for the text on the front again I think it should be put into the item description. I think the date thats on the case should be in the main name of the listing simply as that is how it appears on the case rather than having the date in the alt name section.

Again this is just how I see it. I think its easy and simple to follow.

Hey there

Can someone tell me the best way to list / add demo discs to the database please as there are currently 2 different ways in which they are listed and its making searching for a few things a bit annoying. What I mean is just the general name for the demo disc listing so I'll show what I mean below.

So PS1 demo discs are listed as follows at the moment:
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 65

I think this method is perfect and should be implemented for for PS2 demo discs with the addition to the month / year being added as well as well as the - which is on the side of each of the magazines and demo discs. At the moment there are 2 different ways in which they've been listed / named and I'm only bringing this up as it's just a way to keep the database clean and tidy in general. It also helps when it comes to searching for these demo's on the database. These are the 2 listed methods at the moment:
PlayStation 2 Official Magazine U.K. Demo Disc 68 / January 2006
PlayStation 2 Official Magazine-UK Demo Disc 11 / September 2001

So what I am asking is can there be a standard now for adding demo discs onto the database which is as follows for PS1 and for PS2 and these be implemented on the ones currently on the database. I did try changing them a while back but they weren't authorised.
PS1 (Some demo discs have different Vol hence the Vol bit on the first listing)
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 00: Vol 00
Official UK PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 00

PS2
PlayStation 2 Official Magazine-UK Demo Disc 00 / January 2006

If someone could get back to me and let me know what they think or approve this, that would be great. If it is approved can someone go through the demo listings and make the alterations please? I'm sure you guys could do it faster then me doing it and then having it authorised by someone.

Thanks

General / Commodore Facebook groups and / or pages?
« on: March 17, 2017, 06:02:05 pm »
Hey guys n girls
Does anyone here know of any groups or pages on Facebook devoted to old gen PC hardware or Commodore hardware such as the C64, Amiga 500, etc. Mainly looking for a group which deals a lot in replacement parts, mods, repairs, those kind of things. I did do a search but only came up with community pages with little interaction.

OK. I will list it under Sega Mega Drive [EU]. Just wanted to make sure as it is a dev cartridge lol. Thanks admin :)

You have 2 multitap listings under PS2 Accessories. The first one is listed as Multitap and the 2nd as Sony PlayStation 2 Multitap.
