Geez seems like every time I think about updating my collection I forget, and before I know it, months pass :). I promise I'll get around to it some day hopefully.

I used to be really good at papercrafts (those 3d model figure things made of paper) but I've fallen out of practice since I don't find many to be worth the ink and time.
Other than that, all I really do anymore thats not collecting or consuming media is a little bit of gardening, play time with our dogs, cooking lessons, and some board/card games with the family.

I usually keep most of the plastic wrap on mine and just find a clever way to snip and slip the games out to play before I have the chance to box em. Though there's one game that is KILLER to find a box for. Sad to say I'm defeated every time I try and look for one.

That aside, ive actually met Kelsey Lewin once. Really fun lady.

I very vaguely remember playing duck hunt on a neighbor's nes back when I was about 3yo. But I wasn't introduced to or owned anything until I got a game boy color with pokemon yellow. Recently I was told that my older brother and sister used to have both an nes and snes, but were sold off before I was born.  :'(

Is there a way to create polls on here? Have they been done before? I want to know if people go here using a pc or a mobile device.  :P

I don't know if it's just because I'm an admin, but I see an option for "add poll" at the end of the thread, to the right of "reply." If it doesn't show up for you, I can make a poll for you :)

Its quite alright, my reason was kind of self answered already. But it would make for a great post of it isn't already one.

I just got my ps4 a little over a year ago so this gen is still kinda new to me. That and the fact that the ps4 pro and xbox one x are still fairly new and were released with mostly current market tech, I wonder what new things a new console could even offer that the current ones don't already satisfy.

The switch kinda bores me a little right now. There hasn't been many big releases that aren't first-party, ports, or multi-platform releases. I DO like the switch but I think it still isn't being taken seriously enough for that. Ill be happy with just getting a new metroid and bayonetta though.

Hardware and Tech / Re: Need help with fixing OG Xbox

So I've cleaned out every little corner of the system and let it dry. I then took out the hdd and plugged it into an older computer. The computer recognizes the drive and I can hear it still work. I also tried using another ide cable I know still works. I also put in another hard drive just to see what would happen. With every try I've still been given an error code 7 from the thing. Nothing has yet to work and I suspect it could either be the ide connector or the dvd drive somehow. Seeing as the DVD drive doesn't open when the eject button is pressed and the hdd still not detected, I would guess it's the ide connector but I'm not sure how I should move forward with it all.

General / Collecting game related cards

Anyone here ever tried to collect the Kid Icarus uprising AR cards or the animal crossing amino ones? Feeling interested but these were so limited with their release and I don't remember ever seeing them on my local store shelves. Its a shame theyre so expensive to buy online. I heard the kid Icarus cards were very common in Japan and Europe. Recently it feels like nintendo too often releases stuff and then brushes them under the carpet too quick for people to notice.

Hardware and Tech / Need help with fixing OG Xbox
« on: March 28, 2018, 06:36:22 am »
Found my brother's old Xbox under some things in his closet. I decided to open it up and fix it. While trying to boot it up, I keep getting an error code [7]. Looking this up online, it seems to be fixable by trying to firmly reconnect the ide ribbon cable on the board and the hdd. But for the life of me I still can't get it to work.
Is there a way to tell if either the cable or the hdd still work? Or am I just missing something? Also is the board being slightly mildewy very harmful to the console? Its kinda hard to clean it out from between all the parts. Thanks.

Oh and my bro also said something about the disc tray not opening when the eject button was pressed, which is why he dumped or in his closet in the first place. Thoughts?

I LOVE taking apart electronics, old and new. They feel a lot like puzzles and it helps me to familiarize myself with the different components and such so I understand and get closer to my consoles.

One time I picked apart my laptop because it overheated too often. The thing was SO caked with dust and dirt inside. The fan alone looked almost like one of those filters in a vacuum cleaner with all the dust and hair in it. After that, I always make a point to open up any used consoles and wipe off dirt and blast it out with compressed air. I still need a screwdriver for my n64 and gamecube. Those are still pretty dirty.

Last year I bought a nice looking white gba off of eBay. While the picture looked good enough, getting it in my hands, I saw that the thing was almost orange and many of the buttons stuck down. It weirds me out how people just don't take care of their things often. Well after opening it and scrubbing it down, the white shell hurt my eyes with how vibrant it was. Like wow what a pearly beaut she was gunked inside some dirty barnacled oyster.

I just look at it like any other hobby, it requires maintenance, I taught myself how to solder, you can fix a lot of old machines just by soldering loose connections back together.
This. Its amazing how spending just ten minutes on something can make it work like new. One time when I was still new to soldering, the cable latch to my 3ds broke a contact wire. So I opened it up and tried to put in another one. I ended up melting apart 5 replacement latches and my 3ds still isn't fixed to this day.

Anyone hear about the news of Nintendo partnering with Illumination to make a Mario movie?
