Received the Dutch (?) versions of Doom and Gravity Rush for the PS4. A little disappointed that I can't access the side content on my American PSN account, but both of the core games are mostly playable in English, plus I got some European candy. Have no idea what the flavor is, but I like it. Thank you, Santa!

Looking forward to seeing some gift reveals! I think that's the best part of these exchanges. (And happy late birthday, dstone!)

But where do we stand on Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge?

I'm not really a fan of the genre, but I've made a few exceptions for visual novels with stories or concepts I find interesting. I'd still rather be watching a show or reading a book, though. I personally don't see the appeal in slapping some very shallow interactivity on a bunch of still pictures and then covering them with a novel-length script (weird sex scenes optional). When They Cry and Doki Doki Literature Club are the only ones I think I'll go back to anytime soon.

I will be screeching my love for Wind Waker until the day I die.

If you like dry humor, I highly recommend supergreatfriend. He's a let's player who specializes in cheesy horror games, but he's branched out quite a bit over the years. My personal favorite is his "Bully Demise" series, where he makes an ironic original character in a terrible wrestling game and imports it into other games for a goofy overarching story, though the end contains a lot of references to his other LPs that probably won't make sense to newcomers. AdumPlaze can also be pretty entertaining, but the co-hosts like to try way too hard for shock laughs, sometimes.

Still waiting on the very last thing to arrive. The seller finally responded to my messages and uploaded a tracking number, but that hasn't updated at all in a week. I'm hoping it's just a tracking delay. If not, I'll have to get a last-minute replacement. So close.

General / Re: Is Rule of Rose worth it's price?

Honestly, I think it depends on if you're the type of person to get invested in a game's story. I love a lot of bad games, but Rule of Rose was nearly unplayable for me at times. Its story and art direction are its main strengths, though it will try its hardest to hide that plot from you for the bulk of the game. If you're a survival horror fan, it's certainly unique in its presentation. I'd say it's more disturbing than scary, though. Definitely didn't deserve all the controversy it received. Maybe consider an LP? I also got it for waaaay cheaper than market value, so I may be a little biased.

Down to the last gift -- the only one I ordered online. It's been a week and the seller hasn't shipped it or responded to messages. And it was a good price, too. :(

I submitted two listings for the SoulCalibur arcade cabinet by accident. Sorry for the trouble!

I'm shocked it took this long for someone to make that joke. Also: Booooo.

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Error Listings 2017

I had a question about formatting a game's title, specifically both versions of Tales of Fandom Vol.1:

Each feature different cover and disc art variants but have no differences in the actual gameplay. Would this difference be shown with parentheses ("Tales of Fandom Vol. 1 (Mint Version)") or a dash ("Tales of Fandom Vol. 1 - Mint Version")? I tried to change them to the former, but my edit was rejected.

For the record, its sequel also had two variations of box art, and the title was changed to parentheses.

Grabbed a couple things for my giftee today. I think this is the fastest I've ever started on a Secret Santa.

Felt like picking up the original Fatal Frame again. I forgot how cheap the ghosts can get in the second half of the game. Think I'll go for Fatal Frame III next since that's the only one in the original trilogy I never got around to completing. The controls always screwed with my head.

I'm mildly concerned to see someone compare racing games to actual driving.

(Also I doubt alcohol would improve anything but the one time I've ever beaten Space Channel 5 happened when I was trying to fight some very powerful sleeping medication so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .)
