General / Re: Your In Game Names Or High Score Names
« on: July 01, 2018, 05:48:32 am »
If the game gives a name to a specific story character (and not a crappy one), I stick with the default. (i.e. Cloud, Chrono, Issac), but if I need to give a name and.or if the character is supposed to be "me", I go by Striker.
As far as online, my main online alias Jonathon Striker, and I'll use full name, Striker for short if forced, or even J.Striker because Striker is common in some games. I also have sub aliases: Mr. Pink, and BlackM4G3 (blackmage). Mr Pink is for anytime I can use the Hot Pink, or Black and Hot Pink color theme, and then my friends and I joke about "hiding in plain sight". Black Mage is whenever I play a Mage or wizard class, and I say I'm Black Mage because I'm black. That actually started with Xbox 360 Bomberman Live, and then Ragnarok Odyssey because I made myself a dark-skinned Mage with an Afro.
HighScores are always my Alias Jonathon Striker, or just Striker, unless restricted to initials, and then I use mine: JEC.

Thanks. And now I have to go back and figure out which 4 of the 7 I have. didn't even know it was that many, but thanks to the internet, I was disappointed to find out there were more than 4.

Modern Video Games / Re: Is buying used games morally wrong?
« on: January 25, 2018, 06:22:17 am »
The original idea of used is not to avoid buying directly from the company that makes it, or to make 125% profit on something from the 1980's, but to buy something you want, that someone else no longer wants. You want a game, but you want to save money. So you look for used. The person selling it no longer wants the game, so they sell it cheaper than new. You got a good deal. Some people do it with cars, computers, musical instruments, etc.
If you feel guilty, it's because of where your mindset is.
You want Mint CIB games? You want games when they first come out? You need to buy them new.
Can you wait on a game? are you on a budget? Are you backlogged on titles already? Did you just become interested in an older release title? Just buy it used and enjoy the game.

If the game is not on the site, you have the option to add the game manually to the database, including uploading pictures for the game. Based on your desciption for this game, it matches the link as the "alt-name", but would need a picture or screenshot to verify. You might also try gamefaqs or wikipedia as well for reference sources.

Site Feedback / Re: Amiibo & Figures count as Swag
« on: February 14, 2017, 09:39:21 pm »
I would consider Amiibos, Skylanders, and such as Accessories. They physically don't do anything but NFC to the appropriate device and give extras to games, but no one specific figure is required to make a game work. Swag generally does not affect gaming, while accessories are optional tools to enhance gaming. Just my opinion anyway.

To use your gamecube controller on virtually any Wii/Wii U game, you need this. You'll need one per controller though.
unfortunately, all other options seem to only work with Smash, although they also have PC options as well, but that doesn't help you.

Other is probably best as Swag would usually imply things you can buy or promotional give away items. Hardware is definitely as implies, the actual console.

you should be able to move that yourself. Just submit the change and the admin will accept it.

Oh Yeah, I saw this on Kickstarter after reading about the MegaDrive Cartridge they made awhile back. I had to back this one. Waiting for my Limited Collector's Edition for PC (and now glad I have a PC for gaming now).

Site Feedback / Re: Cool Idea for site.
« on: August 16, 2012, 05:57:56 pm »
Just remembered something else I wanted to suggest. I would hope to get something like a check box for games I have finished. I have been through many sites where I used to do that, and well, Gamefaqs doesn't make it easy so that is like a month long process, and all the other sites/facebook apps I've used have all gone to crap because they just made bad updates, and then no update.
What I hope to do is tag games that I have finished (I'll use my own definition of finished thank you very much) so that I know what I have beaten and what I still have left to play, as my RPGs alone are the reason I may never finish all my games I keep buying. I guess an example (no so much visually) would be myanime list (http://myanimelist.net/animelist/jonathonstriker), where I didn't realize I how much I have watched, and how much I haven't watched, and now I'm trying actually complete some of these series hopefully faster than I am obtaining more.

I think what he was saying is that he wanted games that only had a picture of the cartridge to show up on the collection with a cartridge picture when a front box picture is for any reason unavailable. some people have found a good disc or cart image, but no good box image, so the database by default shows the front box art which is no image.

It also seems he wants for it to show the cart/disc by default if he lists that he has the game but does not have the case for the game. Like if I have Left 4 Dead, but only have the disc, then show the disc for my collection and not the box. I personally wouldn't care about that in my database.

you mean like a sort button I guess? That would be pretty cool. I look forward to it.

I would like to see a compare feature. I'm not sure how you could do it since there is no friends list or "follow users", but I would like to be able to compare games with some of my friends on a side-by-side chart. I mean, it at least would be easier than me using both my monitors to scroll two windows side by side.

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Watermarked Images Thread
« on: August 16, 2012, 05:14:44 pm »
For anyone looking for box images, I have been finding a lot of non-watermarked pictures on GameFAQs.
I would suggest not using them unless you have the real thing yourself, because their listings are usually wrong.

THAT IS NOT AN XPLOSIV RELEASE, YOU IDIOTS! IT'S NOT EVEN BRITISH! )@#$&@ Augh!

I don't know about most of them being wrong as I haven't found a wrong one yet, but yes, please always check ANY images online with your physical copy. Also try to find another site or two to cross-check what is the right image for that version.
