Modern Video Games / Re: Are you going black friday shopping?
« on: November 28, 2016, 05:14:14 am »
I just got Titanfall 2 in town for £20!

I'm curious to know how other countries handle/get in on the whole Black Friday thing given that Thanksgiving is largely a US thing (Canadians have it too but celebrate a month earlier). I assume retailers just designate the last Friday in November as a huge sales day to coincide with the US Black Friday?  ???

Here in Sweden we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but Black Friday is starting to get attention here with alot of shops marketing Black Friday deals, or even Black Weekend deals. The deals themselves seem a bit... underwhelming for my part... the PS4 Pro for example is only marked down by 12% for Black Friday

Marketplace / Re: Looking For a Deal on a Master System

Master System is still really cheap in Europe. Here in sweden one can expect to pay between $20-30 for a bare system with cables/controller, then of course if there are a couple of games included the prise will go up

Modern Video Games / Re: Wii U Ceases Production This Week
« on: November 02, 2016, 07:24:55 am »
Doesn't sound right that they would cease production before the other console is on the market.

I guess they probably have enough stock to keep sales going for a while. This won't mean that there are no Wii U on the shelves tomorrow, altough we can expect them to get rarer as stocks decrease worldwide

Off Topic / Re: Do you PC game? What kind of CPU do you use?
« on: October 23, 2016, 03:37:17 am »
I've always preferred PCs to consoles over the years. Nowadays I use my PS4 for casual gaming (like Battlefield, GTA) and my modern PC for more advanced strategy games like Civilization etc.

It's kind of irrelevant to ask which CPU is used since the GPU does the majority of the work these days

Off Topic / Re: How much would you pay for jeans?
« on: October 10, 2016, 03:35:32 am »
I prefer to buy quality/branded jeans. They usually last forever and can be mended if they start to break. I usually pay between $100-$140 for a pair
Which brand? Diesel?

Yup, usually Diesel, Levi's

Ok. But they may have russian title, subtitles and voices.

That is very common for [EU] releases. Add them as:

Just Cause 2 [RU]

I will try to be an early adopter this time and try to replace my PS4 with the PS4 Pro as quickly as possible. My rationale for doing this is that I'm hoping to see increased framerates in a lot of games that currently sees massive framedips from time to time (BF4, GTA V etc etc)

The only problem with that is that older games running better are dependent on the devs applying patches to update their games and utilize the new hardware.  I don't expect EA will spend the time on BF4 when BF1 is about to come out as an example.  I'm gonna wait to see what improvements game actually get and see if they are worthwhile.

I don't think they need to apply patches to just increase FPS. Everything is the same in the two PS4, the only difference is the clock speed of CPU/GPU/Memory, so there should be some noticeable (or un-noticable) FPS increases regardless of patches or not. Essentially it will be like upgrading a PC from say, 2.8 Ghz to 3.2 Ghz. Of course, if they apply patches, the patches has the potential to really increase FPS as the game would then be optimized for the new HW

Yeah, aside from IBM PC/DOS/Windows games, the other computers have similar situations where they can come with formats like this:

5.25" disk
3.5" disk
cassette
whatever this disk is called: http://vgcollect.com/item/100494

Either on their own or in various combinations.

Ah yes, the infamous 3" floppy disk. I think this was only ever used with the Amstrad CPC / Spectrum Computers. Maybe the MSX computers also used this

Regarding splitting the PC category as is still under evaluation. Wouldn't it make more sense to just have one category for the floppy disks and one for the optical discs? I mean, there was a time when PC games game delivered both on 3.5 and 5.25 inch disks in the same box (this might also be true for CD/DVD). Would it perhaps be easier/better to structure it something like this:

Split PC [NA] into:
- PC 3.5"/5.25" Floppy Disk [NA]
- PC CD/DVD-ROM [NA]

Split PC [EU] into:
- PC 3.5"/5.25" Floppy Disk [EU]
- PC CD/DVD-ROM [EU]
- PC - Digital Download [EU]

Since the majority of the existing games within the PC [NA] and PC [EU] categories are CD/DVD releases, just rename these categories to PC CD/DVD-ROM [NA] and PC CD/DVD-ROM [EU] and let the users move the floppy versions of games over to the new PC 3.5"/5.25" Floppy Disk categories over time.

I find this idea to be very interesting, especially since you're saying that floppies often came in the same box. That would definitely limit the confusion as to where these items go.

Yes/no. Computer games can be like this:
- 5.25" disk
- 3.5" disk
- 3.5" and 5.25" disk
- 3.5" disk and CD-ROM
- CD-ROM and DVD-ROM
- DVD-ROM

For the uncommon instances where a game comes with a CD and 3.5" floppy disk, then we should prioritize it as a CD game, if these categories are adopted.

This really is a mess ;D I think the best solution would be to be able to add one or more Formats to an entry in a category, and not have the actual Formats as categories in themselves
