General / Best Website to Write Game reviews on?
« on: April 07, 2015, 11:08:44 am »
I want to start writing game reviews as I'm completing games this year. What website do you guys think would be the best one to get and account and start writing reviews on? Anyone have any experience. I'd love to have some input on a website where people would see the review and potentially have some back and forth if people want to comment on it.

General / Wanted: People who can record game footage
« on: April 03, 2015, 02:36:14 pm »
And have one of these games - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_console_launch_games

Trying to do a revival of Cinematech (ex: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkRcFi51jiw)

I don't personally have the biggest collection or all the time in the world to record all of these games so if anyone would be willing to help record some footage I'm looking for collaborators! PM me if you want more info.

General / Find of the Month (March 2015)
« on: March 22, 2015, 09:55:00 pm »
Hey y'all,

We talked about this in the past in the finds thread but I'll be compiling this for our first ever find of the month thread. Please submit all entries in this thread. Reference can be here from the thread here http://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,5945.0.html

Some rules

  • You can submit an entry for yourself or someone else
  • Each find consists of a specific trip, not your entire lot for the month
  • Each submission must have a write-up as to why you think its the best find of the month

Have fun everyone. I will set up a poll on the 30th of March to vote! Good luck y'all

Figured I'd start one up as its getting warmer and I'll start having more dupes coming up. Currently I only have two games off the top of my head I have to trade/sell

Final Fantasy VIII (GH) - PS1
Final Fantasy X - PS2

I'll upload pics when I get home from work tonight.

Like a summary tab? I'd love to see how I stack up to everyone on the site in terms of collection size. Or maybe we could filter based on system, like maybe I'm #40 for PS2 or something? I think that would be really cool if its possible to implement.

I really adored Cinematech when I was younger and it was on G4 (god thats long gone now). But basically I would love to bring that show back. Gameplay with no voiceovers or anything other than HQ captured gameplay chunks. It would be almost impossible to do alone and I know nothing about VFX and making transitions but I would love to create a joint youtube community to showcase all of the games out there (some more middle of the road games have almost no YT videos showcasing them). Anyone interested?

General / I found a game changer for displaying handheld systems ...
« on: February 27, 2015, 06:50:57 pm »
I've recently been using plate-holders to hold my systems. Some people live and die by them and say theyre great because they hold the systems upright and make them look all fancy. Only problem is they're pretty flimsy and cant hold bigger systems. Well, I just found a game changer a few days ago.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GVA3BS6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That silicone phone stand fixes all of the problems. It holds every handheld I own easily (GBC, GBA, GBASP, Fat NDS, 3DS, PSP1000, even a GAME GEAR!) and with it being all black it looks very nice. The silicon is very soft and light on the systems and makes it extremely easy to put the systems in and not worry because they wont slip. I only bought one to test it out but now I will definitely be buying some for each system I own. The only real downside is that it is a little bit bulky if you're trying to fit your handhelds in a tight space but the handhelds standing up on their own take up a lot of space as well so I don't see that as a problem. I will be taking pictures of each system I have in it and uploading them in an edit to this post if you guys want to see what all those systems in there look like.

Hopefully me sharing this helps someone with displaying their portable systems :)

I AM IN NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH THE MAKING OF THESE! Just bought one and thought you all might like to look into it yourselves.

Video Game Database Discussion / Spring Cleaning of "Description" Fields.
« on: February 26, 2015, 04:03:33 pm »
As many of you know every entry on this website has a "Description" field, as many people may not know is that those fields are meant to be completely original descriptions of games and not copied off of the box or Wikipedia. I think one cool thing we can do as a community is try to do some spring cleaning of the description fields and have a leaderboard over the next three months of who can write the most and best descriptions for games on this website. Anyone in? If anyone wants to do this or help out trying to make the site more appealing let me know! Peace!  8)

General / How do you guys find stores to buy stuff at?
« on: February 24, 2015, 04:30:22 pm »
I've been looking for stores near my area to find games. I always see shoes like LGR Thrifts or The Game Chasers where they not only go to Goodwill but to places that specialize in selling games. I refuse to believe that living near Chicago I can't find any of these places. I already have all of the HPB/Goodwill/Savers stores near me mapped so I know where all of those are but I can't find the niche game stores that others seem to be able to find. HELP!

Site Feedback / I'm sick of the "Hover to toggle search bar"
« on: February 24, 2015, 02:37:46 pm »
Can we change that to be a on/off toggle or ANYTHING that isn't the hover to show the search bar on our main collection page. This has been driving me crazy for a while now as my mouse usually slips down or I'll look at something and lose the search bar and it annoys me to no end.

Site Feedback / Edit multiple items?
« on: February 24, 2015, 11:56:13 am »
Would there be an easy way to edit/delete multiple items from my lists? Maybe if I bought a bunch from my wishlist or I got a bunch of new boxes for my games. It would be easier than going one by one. Just a thought.
