Classic Video Games / Diskun Prize Disk
« on: January 15, 2017, 05:00:34 pm »
I thought I'd post this here, just for interest sake. I know nothing about this but apparently they are very rare and valuable? It's a Diskun Prize Disk. It was traded into the local game store by a collector who had some very special items like this. He also had a Mike Tyson signed "Punch Out" for the NES as well as a SMB3 signed by the Mario voice actor. Anyway the game store owner isn't selling the Diskun but will hold onto it for a while to see if the value increases. I took a picture because it seemed to warrant it as a very interesting piece of gaming history. I'm not really an NES collector beyond the few dozen games I enjoy but I thought some here might enjoy something like this.

So I have the original big box DOS PC floppy version of WITWICS from 1989 and when I search the closest one presented is this one

http://vgcollect.com/item/40270

However that one is a 1996 CD-rom re-release but it's listed as having the original name which prevents me from adding the proper original DOS version to the database. Shouldn't the one listed above be amended to mention that it's a later CD-Rom release? I would think the original PC version from 1989 should be the only one called "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" and later releases should have amended titles. What do mods think?

I ordered a "Blinking Light Win" from Arcade Works last week, which is still in transit. When it arrives I'll add it to the database since it's not here but was wondering which category would be more appropriate - NES Hardware or NES accessory?

I recently picked up an Atari 800XL lot which included some books and manuals from the 80's such as Computer Basic, Atari XL Handbook, Atari Basic Tutorial, etc. These were books sold in stores, not items included with the computers themselves. I'm guessing the site owners and mods would not want things like these in the database as they aren't directly game related but I'm asking just to be sure.

Site Feedback / Submit New Item not working?
« on: August 24, 2015, 08:21:55 pm »
I tried twice to submit a Links 386 CD game for [NA]PC and both times it created a blank page with no pictures, no title and no data. I tried a second time thinking it was some kinda glitch but it happened again. I can see it submitted both items but there's nothing there.

Here are both bad entries

Site Feedback / "My Collection" signature question
« on: August 10, 2015, 06:42:46 pm »
That little signature we all have at the bottom of each post that shows the last 5 games added to our collection - I was wondering if there was an easy way to change it to show 10, 20, 50 etc games instead of just 5. Not for posting purposes but it would be a great way to track more than just the last 5 games.

Is there a way to view your collection by the date you added an item? I know you can see the last 5 items you added in that little code bit in your posts but it would be nice to sort either by newest addition or oldest as sometimes I can't remember what games I've picked up in months past.

Video Game Database Discussion / How should this be listed?
« on: December 16, 2014, 07:26:57 pm »
I picked up one of the Sears Telegames Pinball/Breakout units from ebay today and wanted to know how to list it in the database since it's not there (just the Atari branded version of the C-380 is on VGCollect)

Should it be Sears Telegames or just Telegames? Should it be "Tele-Games"? Should it be "Pinball/Breakaway" or just "Pinball Breakaway"

If a mod could give a definitive answer before I add it, that would be appreciated :)

I know label variations are popular for a lot of collectors and I have quite a few myself but I can't seem to bring myself to add them to my collection database here. For example I have all the variations of space invaders for the 2600 but I've only listed the picture label. Or another example is the whole NES 5 screw and 3 screw which I really don't get.

It just seems like it clutters my collection here, which I like to keep pretty streamlined. Are there others who are like minded or do most add every variation to the database?

Video Game Database Discussion / Any chance of an Ouya game category?
« on: April 13, 2014, 09:01:46 am »
Since there are categories for downloadable games for the mainstream consoles, I was wondering if one would be made for the Ouya?

General / February 2014 - Recently Added to Collection/Recently Purchased
« on: February 01, 2014, 11:48:30 am »
Another $10 "box o' crap" from Computers for Kids yardsale. Red Baron, Elite, and Telewar II are Amiga, everything else is DOS. It was cool to find a boxed Soundblaster 16 and the ISA video card since I'd love to find a 486 game for PC gaming and those are good pieces for a build. Threw in a dusty Competition Pro joystick and NBA Live 97 because they looked sad sitting on the shelf :)

Site Feedback / submitting box art - how long for changes to show up?
« on: January 03, 2014, 10:44:47 am »
I submitted some missing C64 cover art a few days ago and they've yet to show up. They're in my wish list so I haven't seen the update. Is it still 24 hours or is it taking longer now? I realize mods and admins have lives and we are just past the holidays so this is just a question out of curiosity and not any kind of condemnation :)

General / What's your point of view on non-gaming items added here?
« on: December 31, 2013, 04:33:51 pm »
Was thinking about this and like a lot of us, I collect for vintage computer systems and as such, I've acquired a lot of non-gaming software. It got me wondering about adding it here, although I already have with some of the my Tandy Color Computer software. I also have some C64 and Atari 8-bit software that is more application and utility and not gaming so what do others do?

Do you add your non gaming items to your vgcollect database even though its a "video game" database or do you keep those items separate from your collection here? Its obvious some do because there are some non-gaming items in this database.

Marketplace / WTB - Commodore 64 carts
« on: December 25, 2013, 06:11:40 pm »
Looking for some of the more common carts for the Commodore 64. Let me know what you have and your asking prices. Would prefer lots if possible. I'm in Ontario Canada if shipping needs to be calculated. Loose carts are fine and actually preferable. Also looking for Commodore paddles.
