Classic Video Games / Re: The Xbox 360 Discussion Thread

I owned 2 360's , neither got the RROD . I bought a launch premium model that I put a Nyko Intercooler on that ended up melting the power plug and mobo which was later found to be a widespread defect with the Nyko . When that happened , I replaced it with one of the first models that had the HDMI port built in , still works today . Lots of great games on the system and a great controller with it .

I really got into the OG Xbox when it was released . The games resonated with me : Halo , Elder Scrolls III , Max Payne , Phantom Crash , Robotech Battlecry , Fable , MechAssault , Black just to name a few . Yeah some were multi platform but why bother , everything played great on the Xbox and generally looked better too . I never had any problems with mine , still works great today . I need to dig up my old Xbox and PS2 games and enter them into my collection , I boxed them up when I moved years ago and they're still buried the closet . I ended up repurchasing some to replay recently because it was easier than finding them lol .
I had no problem with the Duke , but I really liked the S controller when it was released .

If you haven't already you might try using a different browser to checkout . I usually use Chrome but sometimes it won't work reliably on certain sites randomly . A few times I resorted to just using a whole different PC altogether .

I'm from Europe and we don't have Sears so I think these will be my only options haha
Ah , I missed that lol .

I will most likely buy a woodgrain atari or Vader! The Atari Jr. and 7800 are options that just as viable but they lack the elegant look and go more for a cheapish plastic look.

There's always the more obscure Sears Atari consoles . The woodgrain Sears Video Arcade and sleeker Sears Video Arcade II . Or the Coleco Gemini for an oddity can still be had at a reasonable price though the solder joints tend to break on them , it's usually an easy fix .

Plaque Attack
River Raid II
Journey Escape
Chopper Command
Demons To Diamonds
Demon Attack
Video Olympics

Demon Attack for sure . Holds up very well .

Back in the day I worked at a Sears store in a questionable neighborhood . Store loss prevention was extremely busy . One day they chased a shoplifter in a trench coat outside and a sawed-off shotgun fell out of his jacket onto the ground . They gave up pursuit at that point .

Sears, really? Why not a bank? The felony charge can't be worth whatever is inside of a Sears department store.

It was a bad neighborhood , Richmond CA . That shotgun was probably for their own protection from other robbers lol .
The same store was robbed one night . I was working on the lower floor warehouse and the very pregnant young lady at the merch pick-up desk was robbed at gunpoint just before closing . The robber escaped with a moneybag full of receipts , that's all they dealt with at that desk , no actual money .

General / Re: Deoxit for cleaning carts - Yea or Nay ?
« on: November 03, 2020, 08:30:41 pm »

That's the first thing that came to my mind when I read the title.

Anyway, Deoxit, 91% or 70% isopropyl alcohol, and even an eraser (clear preferably) should work fine, regardless of what some people may say about the latter two.

They had pictures of the game opened to show the innards so I assumed they'd do a good cleaning before they shipped it.

Some sellers are sneaky and will use their own "stock" photos showing an item entirely different to the one they'll ship their potential buyer, somewhat like when a seller has more than one brand new item and only shows one of them for the sake of having something for people to see. There are also sellers that are just outright crummy and will show one thing in their pictures, then send another, so...

Lol , I had to look that up , not a huge Pokémon player . I'm sure the photos are the item I received . It had an identifiable spot on the back . I always look at the pins on Gameboy games before I put them in , but these contacts looked shiny . The oily sheen masked the dirt underneath . They must not have wiped it off well enough after they applied it . I talked to the seller a little afterwards and they were super nice for a change . I have fairly good luck from Ebay sellers , I've gotten filthy/faulty carts from Amazon sellers a lot sold as "cleaned and tested and save checked" when they weren't . Since most Amazon sellers don't use photos you have to rely their description only .

General / Deoxit for cleaning carts - Yea or Nay ?
« on: November 03, 2020, 05:42:52 pm »
I've never really heard of anyone using Deoxit to clean cartridge contacts before , but I just received a Gameboy game from a popular Ebay seller that was "cleaned" and tested that absolutely would not boot upon arrival . They had pictures of the game opened to show the innards so I assumed they'd do a good cleaning before they shipped it . When I opened the cart there was what looked like a light oil on the contacts and around the inside shell of the cart as well . I cleaned the oil residue off with IPA , then recleaned the contacts with a block eraser (my preferred cleaning method) , the eraser removed a lot of grime and dirt that was still on the contacts . Game boots fine now . I asked the seller what they used to clean it and they said Deoxit . Seems to have done a really bad job .

Anyone have experiences with Deoxit on carts ? What method of cleaning do you prefer ?

There's some good game options in color . It'd be nice to get a Crystal , but prices are fairly high . I'm just hoping that the shipping situation goes back to normal soon . Games from Japan are not only more expensive right now , but are taking 3 months average shipping time for me . WonderSwan games were so much cheaper early last year I'm kicking myself for not getting all the ones that I wanted then .

Looks like it turned out great . Since a lot of us grew up with Gameboy green screens I think most people would say it looks fine . Now that you have a nice original WS you should try to find a WS Color , they have a very blue screen when it's turned off and then turns into a nice transparent color screen after it's powered on . They commonly have lots of bad looking spots and marks on them when they're off and in fact the first broken WS Color that I bought I thought had been underwater or something , but once I got it working all of those polarizer marks go away when it powers on .

I'm interested to see how it turns out . I've been tempted to buy one with screen burn to fix . I bought both of my WonderSwan Colors not working cheap and fixed them . You can save a lot of money doing this kind of thing and it's satisfying .

Wow , that is green .

The problem with adhesive polarizers is that it's difficult to get them on without air bubbles and or dust underneath . The non-stickie polarizers you won't have to deal with bubbles at least .
