Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Club Nintendo Luigi's Mansion variant?

The NA release has the text on the front of the box, No 2 on the diorama, it says Nintendo on the top of the box, and nothing on the back.

All other releases have no text on the front of the box, 2 on the diorama base, it says Luigi's Mansion 2 on the top of the box, and it has text on the back of the box for various languages.

Does the blue vs purple overalls also match up with what you found, or are we still thinking this is caused by camera settings?

Which side of the box is the front?

Also, do all the releases say Luigi's Mansion 2 on the base of the figure? One of the pictures does not have the 2 on it.

@Blurks,

Put in the description a message to the Mod why you changed the picture. It works for me, and the Mod will understand why you changed it.

I disagree, this should not be done. If an edit is rejected, PM a mod that is in the online list of the forum or make a post in the forum about it. The site has a messaging system, no need to use the database for this purpose.

Video Game Database Discussion / Club Nintendo Luigi's Mansion variant?
« on: September 09, 2016, 11:07:13 am »
Anyone who has or knows what these are:
http://vgcollect.com/item/56803
Club Nintendo Luigi's Manson diorama.

This entry needs new images but the box front and cart images are showing two different boxes. Is this a variation or a different regional release?

Box type 1: Luigi wearing purple overalls.
Box type 2: Luigi wearing blue overalls, hat sticker on top right, description text below The Year of Luigi logo.

The diorama part looks to be the same for both box versions.

If the game cover or back has no nudity, it should be fine to upload the artwork as is.

For titles with nudity, we do not have a standard yet, so we can decide one.

Do we use an intentionally blurred/mosiac artwork?
http://vgcollect.com/item/28054
or placeholder artwork
http://vgcollect.com/item/22669
Or using censor bars?

That looks fine ignition365.

We can agree that we do not need Nintendo on the cards either... but while we still have just the one category, we may find people will complain about the cards being mixed in with the figures when in the browse category view. Just a thought. And I also remember we would be in the same boat if we had put Nintendo in the name of the figures like I originally wondered.  :-X

Flashback: The way cataloging works is that it does not matter what is used as the standard for naming, it is that the chosen standard is used always. Consistency is important. We are making a database of all things, and following the standards we set for ourself to use. As long as we have just the one category for these types of figures, the names need to be the same no matter what we put in there. If we make a section for Amiibo, then we can go and change all the names after the entries are moved. Then I am sure we will get to have a new naming discussion then.

How about
Nintendo Amiibo: Animal Crossing #036 Alli
?

I suppose we'll need to have (card) at the end, since these are not figures and then change them later once they can be categorized properly.

Nintendo Amiibo: Animal Crossing #036 Alli (card)

I didn't know there were cards in there too. Well, that should be put into a new category.

Card databases use this type of format:
- Year
- Manufacturer (if present on card front)
- Set name
- Insert set name (if applicable)
- Card #
- Card number letter (for variant/error checklisting)
- Card Name
- Subset abbreviation
- (Variant/error note)

In either of the card databases I use, they do not track Amiibo cards. Also the toy site I use does not put the cards as a separate item, they are an accessory of the figure itself.

So I think for cards, we may be able to dictate the format unless we can find what a standard way of displaying them. We know these have card numbers. For your example, Alli is card #036. Is this just #36 in the Animal Crossing set? Or is this #36 in the Amiibo set? If it is the Amiibo set, then I can see a name like this:

2015 Nintendo Amiibo #036 Alli

The card image does not show Animal Crossing on it does it? If it did, we could say Animal Crossing was a subset name. We can put that type of info in the description. However it is decided, it should stick closely to already established card naming rules.

If we are going to go into this direction of adding the cards are we also going to cover other video game cards? What about 1994 EA Sports hockey?

http://puckjunk.com/2012/06/26/lost-cards-1993-94-ea-sports-esa-tikkanen/
Or any other instances where a game has come with a card included?

I think the problem isn't about bandwidth or Sony wanting to sell BDs. It is the fact that people aren't buying movies anymore, not in any great numbers. I am sure that it was considered during the design process. Then they run the numbers. If the numbers don't match up, then they don't add that feature.

We can't look at ourselves, or our friends or people we know online as how the entire world is trending. I can't think of anyone else I know personally that actually goes out and buys new movies at retail. Maybe a DVD here or there, but people are not going out and buying new movies. Not like they used to. Those days are done.

Would we leave out the 3-Pack and Inkling because it doesn't say that on the packaging?  Is "(Variant)" acceptable since it's an alternative color scheme for the figures?

I see for these two, Inkling does not go into the name. It can be put in description or box text as it is used on the back of the box. For whatever reason Nintendo didn't put it on the front also, maybe to save room?

Variant does not apply here because these are 2 different releases. The original one (girl with orange hair, green squid, boy with blue hair) was released May 29, 2015. The other release (girl with green hair, orange squid, boy with purple hair) was released July 8, 2016. We can use (recolor) instead... or put the squid's color there instead (orange squid) vs (green squid).

Looking for clarification at this point.  I found your statement hard to follow

Steel Battalion - http://vgcollect.com/item/646 (This is just the game listed under Xbox[NA])
Steel Battalion Controller (Green Buttons) - http://vgcollect.com/item/29992 (This is just the controller listed under Xbox Accessory [NA])
Steel Battalion w/Green Button Controller - http://vgcollect.com/item/86794 (This appears to be the whole bundle controller and game under Xbox [NA])

All three of these are acceptable?

No. 29992 and 86794 are dupes. An accessory should not exist in game category. The game can exist separately. The entry in accessory should be of the entire contents, not controller only, but everything.
Then can we merge the 2 controller listings and then submit an edit to make it the bundle?

I merged those two and fixed the art on the game only entry. All that needs to be done for the controller is to determine what the proper name for it is, and then put the contents of the bundle in the description field.

4k blu-ray will not work on a standard blu-ray player. For a system that'supported main selling feature is 4k but can't play 4k blu-rays seems about as ridiculous as a phone not including a 3.5mm headphone jack...which is yet another reason to hate Apple now.

Physical media is dead. They are wise to not invest in adding that capability.

I'm at a mix on it. I like how it works with Steam and I would try to do things on that platform. What I don't like is how achievements have become the anti-cheat. I prefer games that will disable achievements if you use cheats. Skyrim does this for example. But many games now have no cheats. And i can get to a point where I would not care about not getting an achievement to just get past a certain point.
