WHich reminds me, what is the purpose of adding the part number if you can't actually search for it?

Site Feedback / Re: Why no "Mac" category?
« on: February 11, 2013, 08:33:28 pm »
I don't see a problem lumping Mac together. I haven't gotten to add mine yet. I was kinda disappointed that PC is combined, as DOS and Windows should be separate. Drilling down into the actual "systems" of PC games can get kinda tricky... Especially when you consider the hybrid games which are designed to work on multiple platforms. I have some games that I know come in PC, Mac, Linux, Hybrid PC-Mac, Hybrid PC-Linux. I'm sure I have a Hybrid PC-Linux-Mac game or two.

The search engine is quite picky, I'm afraid. There is an overhaul planned, but no ETA on it yet. Generally speaking, what I do when I'm looking for a game in the database is go to the "Browse" tab and find it that way.  It's my version of a workaround.
I have also searched for the word after the apostrophe so for NFL '95 I would try searching just for 95 and look that way.

Maybe there is something up because I can't find partial matches like that. For example, If I type

Code: [Select]
sonic genesis
into the search field, I get no results. Is that normal?

General / Re: Want to feel like a really, really small collector?
« on: February 07, 2013, 07:30:02 pm »
I don't have a large collection of anything I don't think. I'm in all the hobby communities I participate in and I have seen other people's stuff. As far as video games go, without seeing Adol's auction last year, as well as that 500k auction from the past day or so, I already knew I had a small collection. I got into it late and like one of my others (Transformers) I've already had sold off stuff.

This is a REALLY old pic, but the best one I could find. It shows a Windows 98 PC, my TV, switch box, Sat box, PS2, VCR, netbook, and very little PS2 games. When I clean it up, I'll take a newer pic.

It appears impossible to search for this game using the search or advanced search:

I imagine it is because you currently are filtering out the apostrophe. I will add the barcode for it so others can find it if they have it boxed.

Site Feedback / How to add an accessory bundle?
« on: February 05, 2013, 06:33:02 pm »
I picked up a Wii game today that at first glance appears to be this one:
http://vgcollect.com/item/21537

But the one I have has a different item number: RVL P RLFE
At first glance it doesn't appear that it is any different than the one already in the database.

I got this used, but did a little research and found that the particular game I have (with this item number) is from this accessory bundle:
http://assets.dreamgear.net/manuals/DGWII-3160.pdf

dreamGear 3 in 1 bundle. The reason I ask about adding it to the database is because I don't see a clear way to find it. For example, searching for item numbers do not work. The advanced search is only for product title and barcode. This variant game has the same barcode as the regular release. Also, product records themselves are not really searchable, so if someone were to search for this game they wouldn't get 2 results. An example of this is if you search for Altered Beast, you don't see the appropriate Sega Genesis console as a search result.

Another issue is that you cannot see what a particular item includes unless you add it to your collection. So for the regular Altered Beast game, you can't see that it is case, manual, cart, insert, etc.

Is it safe?   :P

Yes but I'm always afraid so I turn it off when I'm not using it.

I ran into this issue when trying to add a console. There are a few different Genesis options in the list but none really have any info. For example I have a Model 1 High-Definition VA6 with TMSS. But the ones already in the database could be either really. So I just didn't add it for now.

Explain what you mean by "My "receiver" is a VCR"...

And now I want to see what your sub looks like! lol

My TV is a 19" from 1988 so it only has an RF in. So my VCR connects to that. Fortunately my VCR has some more inputs, being RF (connected to Genesis currently) and Composite. The composite IN ports are connected to a 4 port switch box (Satellite, PS2, Tape deck and aux) and the composite OUT ports connect to the speaker system. The "aux" port has a 3.5mm jack connected to it so I can connect my netbook, other computer or iPod to it.

Here is pic of the subwoofer.

The red/white come from the VCR. There other 4 ports are speaker outs. Yes it was very dusty when I took the pic and YES it is partly made out of electrical tape and beer cases. xD

Site Feedback / How to remove
« on: February 01, 2013, 08:28:14 pm »
I accidently added a game I already had in my collection. I do not see a way to remove the extra game from the game page. Is there a way?

Also: I suggest that a change be made to the "Add" button if that particular item is already in the collection, so that this is more immediately obvious to the user.

Classic Video Games / Re: Retro collecting is dying!
« on: February 01, 2013, 08:14:51 pm »
Goodwill is pretty much the only place I can find good deals on video games anymore. Even the local flea market sellers thinks they have gold on their hands if they come across an NES cartridge.

Thrift stores are primarily where I get my games from nowadays. Most of the time the people there are older and don't know what things are. For example, I got Pokemon blue for a quarter last year sometime. The only difference is Goodwill actually knows what some things are, since they have that auction site. But that doesn't mean some deals still can be found.

My sound setup is kinda homemade. My "receiver" is a VCR but the speaker system I built myself using 3 other speaker systems. I could still make it better by adding bigger speakers but I haven't done that yet. My subwoofer is so ghetto you don't even want to see what it looks like!
