It took me about a year to watch Cheronbyl after it came out, thinking that surely it couldn't have been as good as the hype said.  Somehow it was even better.

I watched the first season / 4 entries in the late 90s Hornblower series.  I liked them a lot!  Good production value, melodrama on the high seas, mostly good performances.  Shame they've been kinda lost to the memory of time, because they really fill that Master and Commander shaped hole in my life.

Caught up with Creature Commandos now that I have Max again, and overall, it's been great.  It's like if the Harley Quinn show was a tad more serious and action packed, it's pretty fun and I'm enjoying the characters.  Even managed to make Weasel slightly interesting with the recent episode lol Definitely looking forward to the rest.

Obvious similar vibes to The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker too because of James Gunn, but I liked those and this is no exception.  It's gonna be cool to see Gunn play around with kinda the two sides of superhero's in DC, where we get him being raunchy, crude, and violent, with this stuff, but then with Superman gets to take things in what would be a more hopeful and positive depiction, and certainly more family friendly.

Storm of the Century is about a catastrophic blizzard and a villain with a naughty list, so it's basically Christmas viewing.  Probably the second best of the glut of King mini-series we got in the 90s and 00s (with The Stand being #1).  Great performances from Tim Daly and especially Colm Feore, but a lot of the supporting cast weighs it down with terrible Mainer accents and kid actors are terrible down to a one. It's biggest strength is the fact King wrote it directly for TV, so it doesn't feel like so many bits and pieces are missing like so many of the others.

Silo is a Young Adult dystopia melodrama masquerading as a prestige television show.  Its got a huge stacked cast, killer production value, but a ton of the writing is downright juvenile.  Just finished the first season, but I can't recall another show that liked this much actively trying to make me annoyed.

Finally got around to The Acolyte, which I liked more than I expected.  The premise is really strong, there are some decent character beats, and killer action.  It does have some big issues, though.  The lead sisters aren't particularly compelling, and the central mystery isn't all that mysterious which really jacks with the pacing.  Better than Ahsoka, Boba Fett, and Kemobi, but not anywhere close to Andor or S1 Mando.

Second season of Squid Game isn't nearly as good as the first, but is still solidly entertaining television.  I thought the first two episodes were the strongest, with the show falling back into a little bit of rut when the actual games start again feeling a bit too much like a rehash of the first season.

The two movies that make up the second "season" of Hornblower are both very solid, and even with a lower budget, its strengths make-up for its shortcomings.

Second season of Castlevania: Nocturne is a bit of a step up from the first.  Just a bit more consistent better pacing, and then a totally killer climax in the final 2 episodes.

Just started Shifting Gears. An original hulu series starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings.

The plot is fairly simple and possibly not new but still has this classic 90s sitcom charm to it. Think Home Improvement but with an adult kid and no wife. Meets some political 21st century undertones and of course Tim Allen humor. Which is usually consistent for me.

Kat Dennings is an exceptional actress even if this role isnt exactly reinventing the wheel. Nor is it a likable character lol. She plays a divorcee who was married to philandering rockstar. And is basically using her own father as a place to kick the boots up on despite not bothering with him for years. Hopefully this boils into contention for plot sake.

The son and daughter are both very likable.

So far it is touching on pretty important topics such as mental illness in children and of course gender politics. But it doesnt hack at it like a butcher. It just plays with it.

I highly reccomend.

Really liked the second season of Silo.  A little slower paced, but a more cohesive overall story. Still feels a little underwritten on the character front, but it continues to quietly improve in quality.

Currently watching "this is the zodiac speaking" on netflix. For the most part its a great designed crime doc.

Creepy and sickening but I do think it's well produced. Although I do have personal opinions on weather or not companies should be allowed to show actual human corpse photos of real people on giant produced media like this. I know its always been a mainstay. Something about that seems very wrong unless the families explicitally consent. So if any do decide to watch. It's not for the squeamish. Id almost rather they replicate the stuff with actors. I often times want to learn what happened, who was suspected and the detective aspect of it and not see it. Trust me. I take your word for it lol. It feels wildly unnecessary.

Very pleasantly surprised by the first season of Shrinking.  I expected to like, but I was unprepared for just how sharply written and perfoit was going to be.  And, unlike so many other modern comedy-drama series, it does a really good job on focusing on the funny without being dour, miserable, or weepy.  It's the best Harrison Ford has been since the 90s, the best Ted McGinley has ever been, and a star making turn for Jessica Williams.

Season 2 of Shrinking might be even better than the first.  Everything I said about the first season still applies, it's just a bit deeper and heavier, without letting itself get too dark or depressing.  The themes are big, but overall it is still a hopeful show.

Knocked out the first season of Ted Lasso.  It's a good show, and Ted is a great character, but it's not quite living up to its reputation for me. I do completely understand why I struck a chord in 2020, though.

Second season of Ted Lasso is way more of a traditional sitcom than the first year.  Sillier, more experimental,  prioritizes cheaper laughs over a more realistic approach.  It's still good, but just doesn't feel the same.

The final stretch of Ted Lasso episodes just absolutely knock it out of the park.  Every major character gets a completely satisfying conclusion to their character - including realistic redemption of characters I didn't think could be redeemed.  I'm still not sure I'd place up on the pedestal that so many others do, but man is it a quality product all around.

Finally getting around to the Chucky  TV series.  It's about as fun and camp as you'd expect. I think most of the kids are kind of lacking in the performance department, but it still clips along at a good pace and can deliver the tension when needed.

The final two Hornblower installments are both really good.  The villain isn't quite as strong as David Warner in the previous two, but it seems to have doubled-down on the gay subtext.  Good for them.

Second season of Chucky is pretty hit or miss.  Other than the first episode it spins its wheels for way too long before really kicking into high gear.  Once it does kick in I really liked it.  We get to see more of what Tiffany has done to Jennifer Tilly's life in the best episode of the season, and it redeems the entirety of the Glen and Glenda story.

Scavengers Reign - Just absolutely oozing with creativity.  Part Over the Garden Wall and part Heavy Metal with a dash of hard sci-fi like The Expanse. I don't feel like it really nails the ending, mostly because we stop encountering new biomes as the storylines start converging in the same place.  I could have just watched this show come up with weird fucked up little guys for several more episodes.

Invincible Season 3 was good, it definitely suffered from weaker animation than stuff they had before, but they at least went pretty hard for the finale.

Saw that The Rig got a second season, watched an episode and a half, but it's kinda boring.  The first season was great, lots of weird stuff happening on a secluded, run down, rig, it had a good vibe, watched that and then played Still Wakes the Deep after that at some point, which was a great combo.  The second season feels more like just a general scifi show.  The place they went to is all fancy and hi-tech, it's just a completely different vibe that doesn't work.  The story could be fine, maybe it gets better, but I'm just not interested.

Finished the second season of my rewatch of The X-Files.  Some of the best TV ever.

Having just finished the third season of Invincible I think it is currently my favorite running comic book adaptation.  It manages to hit almost all of the crazy tropes you'd expect from several different levels of scale (street, world, galactic, magic) while being both legitimately funny and suitable dramatic.  Good stuff.

Cobra Kai ended on a strong note. It started on shaky legs but boy did one man and one man put the batteries back in this series back.

Martin Kove

John Kreese's arc was an ariel ace, it is simply glorious story telling. The call backs expertly woven in.  It is like the entire Journey from 1984 to 2025 was worth something. Felt like gold ribbon being wrapped on the gift that was this series.

I coulda done without the AI shit. We get it. We live in a world where we are so self deprecating that we let machines tell us our worth daily. But can I enjoy nostalgic media without "hey look. AI. AI AI"  most of the time its psuedo fear combined with a lack of originality. Like in this season. Robbie has on a sort of karate version of a meta quest. Gets round housed in the head 50 times. And somehow it doesnt break? Dude the visor is made out of plastic. The whole thing was so so forced.

With matrix and back to the future. Technology used to be so cool looking. Plots of the future seemed innovative. Now tbh AI and all the sorts feels like doing taxes and having a drunk uncle go in your room to tell bar brawl stories while you are with your crush. I know its just my opinion. But im sick of AI. And I Love AI. Its just never represented right to me. Always feels like im watching a commercial. Like prime energy drinks.

Outside of that. They nailed Tory, Sam.  All of them.  Seem to have ended in a place they belong. And I loved it. What a series front to back.
