Submitting hardware listings, again
« on: March 17, 2011, 10:34:17 am »
I'm not seeing the new changes on the hardware, magazine, swag, etc submission pages.  Is there something I'm missing?

I'm pretty sure I fully tested it on all browsers and it *was* working. When you select hardware for example, everything not related to hardware should be removed. Please let me know what you are seeing and in what browser.

btw - I love seeing the hardware section bulk up. This is the next area I'm going to start working on.

*edit*

I can confirm when trying to add hardware the page is no different than that of a game... it doesn't change.

Also... Can you update the style sheet to please denote the complete name of the system/portable?

For instance Gameboy should be Nintendo Gameboy and Saturn should be Sega Saturn... Microsoft Xbox, Sony Playstation etc, etc...

Even if not something needs to be done about the adhoc way hardware is being added.

on another note I am not going to use the hardware section until its more on par with the game listings, but that hasn't stopped me from adding some. :)

I agree that we should have the brand in front of each system. I didn't think it mattered originally, but it will help sort the listing next to each other.

@pceslayer I think I fixed it. I messed up some code as per usual.

It appears to be working now.  The style guide needs to be updated for hardware listings.  I went through and updated a bunch yesterday, but we do need a standard format.

Ya I was thinking the same thing. Also, if you see Game Boy listings listed as Gameboy, they need to be changed over. Even though the general public merges the two words, it's properly written Game Boy. I fixed the ones I saw when I was approving edits.

What about Super Nintendo Entertainment System? Technically its Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System....

It seems redundant, but go with Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

I'm working on updating the Style Guide for hardware listings now.

What if we did something like this:

Nintendo:  Nintendo Entertainment System
Nintendo:  Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Nintendo:  Nintendo 64

Sony:  Playstation
Sony:  Playstation 2
Sony:  Playstation 3

That way it kind of breaks it up.

I'm not sure using the colon is a good idea. What about things like the Nintendo 64? would it be Nintendo: 64 or Nintendo: Nintendo 64? ha

This is what I've got so far. The only thing I am debating about is things like variant hardware configurations. Each has their own part number and would need their own listing. But should the part number be in the title in parenthesis? Like: Sony PlayStation 2 (SCPH-30001) [NA]

Thoughts?

Should be set up with name of console, followed by any special bundle/ package names and finally the country of origin in brackets. [NA] [JP] [EU]

  • Nintendo DS - Red [JP]

  •
  • Sony PlayStation 2 [EU]

  •
  • Sega Saturn [JP]

  •
  • Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System [NA]

  • Microsoft Xbox [AU]

If a console has color variants or bundles, these should be listed like special edition games are. So each color variation/ bundle should be listed as a special release of a game would be.

  • Nintendo DS - Red [JP]

  • Sony PlayStation Portable - Piano Black [NA]

  • Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite - Resident Evil 5 Limited Edition [NA]

  • Sony PlayStation Portable - God of War: Ghosts of Sparta Limited Edition [NA]

  • Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Super Set [NA]

  • Nintendo GameCube - The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition Bundle [NA]

I'm going to add this to the style guide. Anything else we come up with, I can edit into it.
