Well, it is impossible to know for sure exactly how much time did someone spent playing a determinate game, especially with the older generations... But if I had to guess, my top 14 (why fourteen?) would probably be:

1) Alex Kidd in Miracle World
2) The King of Fighters '98: Dream Match Never Ends
3) Metal Gear Solid
4) Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War
5) Final Fantasy VII
6) Final Fantasy VIII
7) Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere
8) Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyu 8
9) Garou: Mark of the Wolves
10) Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
11) Sonic The Hedgehog (Master System)
12) Final Fantasy IX
13) Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (Master System)
14) Sapo Xulé vs. Os Invasores do Brejo (AKA Psycho Fox)

Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas
RuneScape (popular browser based MMORPG when I was early teen)
A MOBA game that will not be spoken of but has 3K hours in
Mount and Blade: Warband
PAYDAY The Heist / 2
Rainbow Six Siege
HITMAN
Forza Motorsport 5 (came with XB1 and was launch title so one of few things to play for like a year straight) and Forza Horizon 2 ... just got really into it at the time for some reason
Sniper Elite 3 authentic difficulty
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
Red Dead Redemption 2

A MOBA and MMO certainly got the most play. They may not have been most fun but were most addictive. Then stuff like Bethesda rpgs and multiplayer FPS games.

I played a ton of Mario on SNES and N64 but I was so young I have no comprehension of the actual time spent. I used to play 99 stock (lives) matches of Super Smash on N64 and GameCube endlessly that I can’t put an hour figure on either.

I was really into Left4Dead, that was so fun and novel when first out.

I’ve played a lot of dynasty warriors too.

My most played when I was younger was Super Mario 3 / World on SNES. It was basically the only game at the time. Super Mario 64 got a ton of play time too.

My most played ever is probably a MOBA at 3,000 hours (not a joke nor exaggeration).

Single player wise in recent times definitely Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3/NV.

When Xbox came out I compulsively played Halo 1 and 2 too.

A lot of stuff is kinda ‘one and done’ especially when I was too young to have a job and trading in each time to get something new.

I haven’t played a lot of multiplayer titles but that is where the big play time racks up because it’s different every time and infinitely replayable.

Some games I was extremely fond of I haven’t played more than once e.g. Bioshock.

I’m always hoping for something that I can play for a really long time because I love it and not because I’m addicted to it. HITMAN and Sniper Elite 3 authentic difficulty gave me that kind of feeling.

Including expansions on particular titles.

1. Street Fighter IV
2. StarCraft
3. WarCraft III
4. Street Fighter III: Third Strike
5. Twinkle Star Sprites
6. Garou: Mark of the Wolves
7. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
8. Marvel vs Capcom 2
9. Dance Dance Revolution Extreme
10. The King of Fighters 2002
11. Guardian Heroes
12. Trap Gunner: Countdown To Oblivon
13. Gotcha Force
14. Killer Instinct

In the late nineties played plenty of RTS games such as Age of Empires, Command & Conquer but no where near as much as StarCraft series, eventually WarCraft III. My friends would have LAN tournaments. As a kid I spent countless hours playing Killer Instinct on SNES performing "Ultra" combos against my friends. Guardian Heroes replayed plenty times with countless hours put into versus mode. Trap Gunner on Playstation was one game I always came back to playing even several years later. Gotcha Force was one of the few GameCube games I've owned spending hours unlocking all the characters.

Street Fighter III and Marvel vs Capcom 2 spent countless hours unlocking hidden characters (MVC2) playing tournaments against my friends (SFIII) on the Dreamcast. Years later playing Street Fighter III: Online Edition on Xbox 360. Dance Dance Revolution Extreme on PlayStation 2 was a frequent game I came back to for a year. I spent many hours playing Twinkle Star Sprites, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, The King of Fighters 2002 on GGPO (Fightcade) versus online.

Although the number #1 spot goes to Street Fighter IV. Spending countless hours and playing for several years, participating in tournaments, and fighting against known e-sports figures.

Super Smash Bros. Melee - 150+?
Terraria - 284
Smash Ultimate - 146
League of Legends - 890
Adventure Quest Worlds - 200+?
Castlevania: Harmony of Despair - 200+???
The Ultimate Doom - 100+?

1. Smash Bros. Series - I grouped them all together. Other than the 3DS version, I've played countless hours of Smash. Specifically, the original, Melee and Brawl due to couch co-op.
2. Star Ocean: The Last Hope International (480 hours)
3. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (90 hours)
4. Radiata Stories (85 hours)
5. Mega Man X4 - not sure on this one, but I replay it all the time and played it about every day during the PlayStation era.
6. Tales of Berseria (150 hours)
7. Tales of Symphonia Chronicles (200 hours)
8. Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition (80 hours and counting. I'm still not done yet!)
9. Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (100 hours)
10. Final Fantasy Tactics (200 hours across multiple playthroughs)
11. Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness (I think 120 hours)
12. Tales of the Abyss (200 hours across multiple playthroughs)
13. Breath of Fire III - again, not sure because I played it so many times.
14. Valkyrie Profile - same situation as Breath of Fire III.

1. Call of Duty World At War  (At least 2,000 Hours)
2. Grand Theft Auto Vice City (1000+ Hours)
3.  NBA 2K16  (720 Hours)
4.  NFL Street 2  (1000+ hours)
5.  Call of Duty Black Ops 2 (650 hours)
6. Forza Motorsport 6 (400 hours)
7. Grand Theft Auto IV-V  (At least 1,000 hours between the two.  I don't know which one I played more)
8. Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsonal (500 hours)
9. Gran Turismo 4 (at least 700 hours)
10. Kingdom Hearts  (200+ hours)

I can't know for sure on many and i'm just estimating.  But Call of Duty World At War was a game I started playing when it first came out in 2008.  I was in 5th grade, and I used to play on Xbox 360 Xbox Live with my 11 year old friends just completely binging it.  My brothers, my brothers friends.  We had a giant clan.  I mean on summer vacation, it was everything.  From the moment we woke up, until the moment I went to bed.  A good portion of my family.  It was special.  And at the time it was new and amazing.  This continued for many years.   Then I was in middle school 7th until 8th grade.  And me and my best friend at the time played nazi zombies every single day.  Looking up cheats and hacks to survive until round 100 and pack a punching all the DLC guns on der reise.  But mostly nacht der untoten.  I have played this game easily more than any other game.  And even still all these years later I recently did a veteran play through (which is hell).   I think it's one of those games that i'll fire up and reminisice until the end of time.  It brings back so many fun memories that I wish I could relive :(

As for a few of the other ones.  Like NFL, NBA and Forza.  Those 3 games are designed to consume time and be addictive.  they just really absorb you.  The level up system, the idea of making more and more money fuels you to play more but than you can get the car you always wanted but then you realize a month went by  ;D
