Do You Not Like A Video Game Because Of How Easy It Is?

I believe balance is key for me to like a video game, to me their is nothing worse than a game that is difficult because of it's controls not working properly, I like an easy video game but I don't like something to be so easy I get board too fast, if a game becomes too difficult I don't like it at all, if it's engaging or the difficulty is not too too  extreme I'll gladly go back to it and try again.

But I never had to complain about a video game being too easy

my own post taken from earlier on the thread above

Pretty much all games eventually become easy (for us), to do once we know how to play them properly on the same difficulty level for long enough. I do like the option to switch the difficulty in video games also. But I do not like games that are too difficult (to me) on the easiest setting.  I like games to engage me in some challenge, but not when games just keep on kicking my ass over and over, or games that leave you guessing on how exactly to beat them.

I hate boss fights especially when they require a hidden weakness or puzzle so out of thought, you may need to look up a guide upon.  in order to beat them.

Here's how I tend to go about it-

If a game is too easy, I will play it, beat it, and never pick it up again. Why bother when you've already 'mastered' it?

If a game is too hard, I will rage quit and never beat it. I have many more games I can play, why waste time on one that demands hours of repeated attempts to land the one that will grant me access to more game?

The games that hold are the ones that manage that tightrope walk of easy vs. hard... where I don't feel frustrated by a lack of progress, but I also don't feel like I can check my texts while playing becuase it's so easy (or so automated). The kind where I can beat the game, breeze through early areas to help newer players & feel like an amazing pro- while knowing those last few challenges to complete the game fully are beyond my abilities. Maybe though, if I play just a little more, I can do it.

It's not an easy thing to pull off, but when it happens? That's gaming gold right there.

While playing Fire Red, I realized I loved it's challenge and felt in retrospect Gen VI just holds your hand.

games that start getting too difficult for my abilities can put me in a bad mood, but having a few breezy easy games in our collection is good to have for us to play, after trying something beyond our abilities.

I gonna tell you what happen to me today, I found that Beetle Adventure Racing on the Nintendo 64, is easier to do on (Expert setting) than Test Drive 4 for the PlayStation 1 is on it's easiest difficulty setting,

in fact I have the greatest hits version and it's amazing to me exactly even why this Test Drive 4 game should even be a greatest hits game. But someone else feels the same way because Test Drive 4 on the PlayStation 1 has a relatively poor score by even a test drive series fan on google

I like challenge don't get me wrong and I too dislike a game in a favorite series that holds your hand. In which is why I prefer not to play Tiger Woods PGA tour 2012 collectors edition, for the PlayStation 3.

video games are somewhat like going to a gym and working out, if you play something too easy for too long of a time, you can get too softcore and not even be able to enjoy most video games period good point. :)

No, easy is fine. It makes me feel like I'm actually good a video games, which I am not for the most part. That's why I love Kirby. People complain "I don't like that game, it was too easy" - it's supposed to be. Kirby games are made for those like me, who could honestly never in a million years, beat one stage in a Mega Man game.

I can’t say that I’ve ever disliked a game over how easy it is, but I have definitely dislike games based on how simple they are.  The base game of Super Mario Odyssey is pretty easy, but it is also deep with mechanics and very engaging.

I feel like there's a sweet spot between being easy and hard that makes a game highly enjoyable. If a game is too easy it's just boring since there is literally no challenge or reward for succeeding. Likewise a game that is insanely hard that almost ever lets you win is just frustrating and demoralization, which is taken too far is the complete opposite of fun. I find games that offer a fair, balanced challenge in the gameplay are the most enjoyable. Some veer more towards easy, and some more towards hard, but it's this middle ground that I enjoy the most. This is why I almost always start games on the normal difficulty since I find it's usually the most balanced challenge. Sometimes, I have to up the difficulty or decrease it depending on the game, but 90% of the time normal is where it's at.

If the game is too easy I will up the difficulty, I'm not really into playing easy games. Some challenge usually keeps me engaged with the game. Perfect example is modern JRPGs, if I can play the game by pressing one button and not using buffers or items in the inventory then I can loose interest in the combat, which is a main chunk of the game. Upping the difficulty usually fixes it.

It really depends on the game.
I remember that Kirby yarn game on Wii (I forget the name) was incredibly easy, to the point there was no reason to play.

OTOH, the Prince of Persia remake was known for holding your hand too much and making the platforming too easy, but I somewhat enjoyed it.

But TBH, extreme difficulty is more of a turn-off than extreme easiness.

Age-old answer: depends. But easy or not, if the game is good and keeps me entertained, I'll play it. A good example of this is Batman: The Brave and the Bold – The Video Game for the NDS, which happens to be easy, but entertaining; it's a good time killer.
