Are we really counting fan games?  I noticed a Rayman game earlier too...

It's not something I personally would have wanted to include, but OP never stated otherwise. The second fan game to be listed was even added by OP. However, Sonic Robo Blast 2 is even admitted by the creator themselves on its official website as an incomplete project, so that may be enough to warrant not adding to the list.

That being said, this isn't some definitive list anyway.

What's wrong with Rayman?

42. Super Mario 3D World

Loved this one. Glad someone put it. It seems to be one of the lesser liked Mario games in the gaming community.

A disgrace for the 3d mario name what where they thinking. and let's not get me started on the abomination of them cat suits.

It felt like a 2d mario bros title in terms of creativity and gameplay when the formula got stale after new super mario bros 2 3ds. way less complex 3d lvl's to fit the 2d mario bros theme more for 4 player action. I've never been so dissapointed about one of my favourite game series that is 3d mario wich is usually top tier, tons of creativity fun gameplay the best of the best in terms of 3d platforming to just the same stale quality of the newer just okaish new super mario bros games.

The immersiveness, the gameplay, the movement, complex lvl's, the sense of exploration, the creativity even the music, mario 3d world had none of that in the quality of a 3d mario.

Than again it was the wii U.

No new zelda until the console was literally dead last few months, a mario kart withouth a battle mode almost no 3rd party support and a very dissapointing mario game that was of the 3d mainline games. A system seller must have game for any system owners turned into just an okaish side game that could have easily been skipped.

Wii U was truly a very dark era for nintendo,

Counterpoint, it's the best game in the series since Super Mario World, barring maybe the first Galaxy.  It's leagues better than every game in the "New" series.

Rayman Redemption (on the list at 15) is a fan remake of the first game not an official game.

Ah, didn't know that. Was wondering if there was a new game in the series when I saw it.

Sure that's true better than everything in the new 2d series, except for the first new super mario bros ds and luigi's poker it didn't beat that.

In terms of actual 3d mainline mario games, it's bottom of the barrel not even a contest. Dark era for a 3d mario fan thanks to this single wii u entry. Multiplayer actually made the experience worse with a camera angle in wich the already simplistic lvl's felt even smaller than in single player. the lvl's where basicly 2d new super mario bros esk with an extra dimension way less than any other 3d mario only few exceptions, a huge downgrade from every single 3d mario game. let alone the art style and enemies wich where so uninspired and generic compared to other 3d mario games
