Aladdin on the genesis was amazing, or Little Mermaid for NES.  Laugh if you must but I remember being surprised as a kid at how much fun this game was.

Actually I played the crap out of The Little Mermaid as a kid. I would borrow it from a cousin and marathon it for an entire weekend at a time. So good. As for Aladdin, I prefer the SNES version over the Genesis version.
Now Playing: Persona 5 Scramble, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8

Epic Yarn is great for kids.  Can't die and good multiplayer.

I can't quite remember what I played with when I was 7... Mostly Legos and doing drawings and such.  I have vague memories of Pitfall, Paperboy, and Duck Hunt, and when I got a lil' older, Sonic the Hedgehog, General Chaos, Mutant League Hockey, Road Rash, Tetris, Rampage...

For current-gen, I hear Double Fine Happy Action Theater is great with kids, and there's always Mario Kart, Mario Party, Wii Sports, Kinect Adventures.

Both Pokemon Pinball games are very good. Metroid Prime Pinball is pretty alright too.

My ex-girlfriends 5 yo daughter will turn on the PS3, TV/Stereo by herself and fire up Little Big Planet and sit there for hours making faces and putting stickers all over the place.  It's hard to not laugh with her!

I did the same thing when I was a kid.  I always wanted my older brother to play games that I wanted to play just so I could watch him.  I wasn't good enough at them to make any progress, so it was just as fun to watch him do it for me.

I always wanted him to play Kid Chameleon for some reason.

What about Katamari Damacy?  And mobile games seem especially handy for kids.  Canabalt is good for a laugh when I have a few minutes to start it up on the Android.
