Looks like both my NES need new 72 pins..... *sighs*
This is going to sound strange, but try the boiling method to repair the original 72 pins. It's worked great for me twice now!

If nothing else, what do you have to lose? If it makes it worse you were going to replace them anyways  :P

hahaha I'm up for the scathing remarks!

I think I did like 5 minutes boil, put a cart you don't care about (like everyone's 8th copy of Super Mario) in and out of it a couple times, then repeat once more. The important part is to let it dry enough afterwords.

:(.

Have you cleaned the pins on the games too? At the very least run a q-tip with alcohol over them. I actually open my carts up and polish the connectors with Brasso.

Yes I did. Some games were pretty dirty. Anyway. I just ordered a new connector. Let's hope it works.

September 1st already...

I can't believe how fast 2015 is flying. Before you know it Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas will be distant memories. That said, this has been a marvelous year so far.

No it doesn't.  The OG ones are the best you'll ever find.  You just need to rehab them.  The boiling method gets rid of dirt pretty well, but it doesn't always bring it back to life.

Get a sewing needle and bend each of the little pins on the connector up just a little.  It'll make better contact with the game and probably work the first time every time.  I've done this on dozens of NES's.  I've never had one that it didn't work on.

Clean it with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip or a old t-shirt wrapped around a credit card.  It sounds weird, but I promise you it will work.

The after market 72pin's are stiffer and are rough on carts.  But that's just my opinion.

Interesting techniques. If I start buying NES games again, I'll be sure to keep that trick in mind.

In other news, we decided we'll board the cat during my family's visit in November. Hopefully it doesn't f*** her up too much. XD
