Such a big library, and a lot of good games (although the hardware could have been a bit more reliable). Here's some of my favorites:

-Baldur Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2
-Champions of Norrath
-Champions: Return to Arms
-Drakan: The Ancient Gates
-God of War 1 & 2
-Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
-King's Field: The Ancient City
-Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2
-Raiden III
-Resident Evil: Code Veronica X
-Resident Evil 4
-Rygar: The Legendary Adventure
-Spider-Man 1 & 2
-Star Wars: Battlefront 1 & 2
-Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 & 4
-Tony Hawk's Underground
-WWE Smackdown/Smackdown vs. Raw Series
-X-Men Legends 1 & 2

And I thought I'd make a sepearate category for these guys, since those so many just SPECTACULAR classic games collections on the PS2:

-Activision Anthology (such an awesome game menu, it looks like a teenage boy's bedroom from the '80s.)
-Atari Anthology
-Capcom Classics Vol. 1 & 2
-Intellivision Lives! (truthfully, I haven't played this yet, but I soooo want it)
-Mega Man Anniversary Collection
-Mega Man X Collection
-Metal Slug Anthology
-Midway Arcade Treasures 1-3
-Pinball Hall of Fame: Gottileb Collection (video pinball takes of REAL pinball tables)
-Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection (the better of the 2, IMO, and again, REAL pinball tables)
-Samurai Shodown Anthology
-Sega Genesis Collection
-SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1
-Sonic Mega Collection Plus
-Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
-Street Fighter Alpha Anthology
-Taito Legends 1 & 2 (It's really #2 that is a MUST-FREAKING-HAVE for shoot-em up fans)

The two Mega Man & Mega Man X collections are worth it.  As an extreme Mega Man fan I love having them all on to disks and for someone maybe wanting to get into the series it is a much cheaper way to try the games out.

Some of my "standout" / "Must-Play" PS2 games are, quickly - and just off of the top-of-my-head (starting with my absolute favorite 1st & on top; and then, in descending order:

- Shadow Hearts: Covenant (aka "Shadow Hearts 2"),

- Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (aka: "Disgaea 1"),

- Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land,

- Shadow Hearts (aka "Shadow Hearts 1") -and- Shadow Hearts: From the New World (aka "Shadow Hearts 3"),

- Disgaea: Cursed Memories (aka "Disgaea 2"), and

(the rest of these are all some of my own, *Personal* PS2 favs -and- *NOT* in any kind of order) -

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga(s) 1 and 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona(s) 3 and 4, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne,

La Pucelle: Tactics, Phantom Brave, Soul Nomad, Makai Kingdom,

Metal Saga,

Final Fantasy(s) X, X-2, and XII,

Eternal Poison,

Mister Mosquito (for fun & diversity's sake:) -and-...

...I'm in a rush to go check-out some yard/garage sales, so, I'm sure that I've missed/forgoitten a bunch of them!

Dragon quest VIII is arguably the best DQ game made. Dark alliance 1&2 and Champions of Norrath 1&2 are cool co-op dungeon crawlers.

I "third" DQ VIII, such an amazing game.  Monster Arena, post game extras, awesome alchemy system, puff puff girls...

Other favorites:

SSX Tricky
Castle Shikigami 2
Grandia III, Xtreme
