Batman: Arkham Knight in 2014
« on: March 04, 2014, 04:50:39 pm »
This time Rocksteady is back for the brand new Batman game that is looking to be out possibly around October.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsf78BS9VE0

It's been said and as the trailer shows, that the Batmobile will be drivable, meaning the city could be alot larger this time.  It also looks to be the last Batman game, at least for Arkham related Batman, as I'm guessing Rocksteady wants to move on to different IP's.  It is also possible that it could just be for this version of Batman and they might move on to other styles of Batman or heroes.  I'd be all over them doing a Justice League game lol

The video confirms at least a few villains like Scarecrow, Two-Face, Penguin, and Harley.  If there is Harley, there is definitely the Joker, but who else will show up is anyones guess right now.

I just saw this elsewhere. I'm excited. I still haven't played through my copy of Arkham Origin yet, though.

Origins is faulty, not as good as City, but man the story is pretty great to me.  It was worth the general buggyness just to experience the main plot, ignoring most of the side stuff.

It's nice to see Rocksteady back for this one since Origins seemed like a step down from City.

However, I'm kinda disappointed that they're doing Batman again. After 2 great Batman games we know Rocksteady are quite talented devs, it would be nice to not see just more of the same from them. Hopefully this being the last "Arkham" game also means the last Batman game from them, at least for a while.

Yeah I'd imagine they feel like wanting to do new properties rather than just being "The Batman Guys" lol Not a bad pedigree really with having 3 hits out of 4 games (They apparently did something called Urban Chaos on the PS2 and Xbox.  Never heard of it lol)

I agree that I want to see what else they can do, but at the same time I'm glad they're wrapping up the Arkham storyline since City kinda ended on a cliffhanger.

I tried getting into Origins a couple of times but couldn't, it felt to me like what it was - someone else trying to make an Arkham game.  With RS back at the wheel, and as a bonus hearing that it's going to be next-gen only, I'm very excited for this one.

I would honestly recommend Origins if you focus purely on the main story missions.  No side missions or anything like that.  The dynamic with Batman and Joker is probably the best I've seen it.  You see how The Joker becomes infatuated with Batman and the same with Batman, but from two completely different point of views.  The actors they got are familiar, but also new and refreshing, it's the shining aspect of the game atop the flawed gameplay and lame side missions.

The story does take abit to kick off, but basically once The Joker shows up, I just wanted more and more of the story.  I also say "recommend", but only if you get a good deal on it or if you already own it and juts didn't get through it.

I traded it in while it still had a high value, but I plan to pick it back up when I can grab it for $10 or so and I'll probably give it another go then.

Damn, that's what I call a Batmobile!

I totally dig the new Batmobile.  It reminds me of a mixture of the newer Bale era Batmobiles with some styling from the 90's live action Batman.

More info on the game.  Apparently "Arkham Knight" is in reference to a new character they made for the story, a new villain for Batman to fight head to head.  The game is set one year after City, I thought it was before perhaps, and it brings back older actors like Kevin Conroy.  It's also being said to be 5x bigger than City and because it is on next gen systems and PC, they can have up to 50 enemies at once on screen at times.  Batmobile is confirmed for being used and will be basically insta-ready to use at a moments notice with a button press like it is for Batman normally when he needs his car.  I'm getting pretty excited.

Also I'm very glad for no multiplayer, purely want a singleplayer focus, no time and money wasted on a mode no one wants lol

This is the third next-gen game in the past few months to come out & specifically say "no multiplayer" (the other two being inFamous: Second Son and The Order: 1886).  I like this trend, hope it continues.  :)  Not saying NOTHING should have multiplayer, but it doesn't make sense to shoehorn it onto a game that's focused on single player.

Yeah it really does seem like any game with a real strong singleplayer has pretty poor multiplayer.  Same for the other way around generally.  A strong multiplayer doesn't usually lend itself to a strong singleplayer.  Plus multiplayer doesn't usually work in games like Batman, because no one wants to be the random thugs in a Batman game.  Everyone wants to be Batman or another important character.

...

It had better not be the person I'm thinking of. Because if it is, then a lot of people will rage.

I think the term i'm going to use to describe my excitement for this game will be "cautiously optimistic". Yeah that sounds good.
