This may be sacrilege, but I've never cared for the series to the point that I don't own, or care to own any of them. I mean, it's fighting with Nintendo characters, right? I dunno, it's never grabbed me.  The genre isn't the highest on my radar.

Melee all the way, my buddy and I obsessed over it logging tons of hours and setting up our own challenges like beating three computer opponents on the hardest difficulty stuff like that. Brawl and 64 didn't grab me the same way

Brawl is the first one I got in the series, but my favorite would have to be:
Multiplayer: Super Smash Bros (Wii U/3DS), followed closely by Melee
Single-Player: Brawl, Melee( may be put to 3rd depending how good the single player mode in 3DS when I get it tomorrow)

That's because you two have horrible taste in games.  Go play an RPG.  Leave the fun games to us.

No sacrilege in having different tastes  I personally don't like fighting games apart from Smash Bros, so if you never tried it because you don't like fighting games, maybe it could be worth a try. Or maybe not, but you'll see

The Smash game I have the most memories/nostalgia for would be N64, but I would have to say my favorite is Brawl.  There is just a lot of content and I have never gotten into the competitive stuff really so I did not notice all of the changes they made that competitive Melee players hated.
