The ps3 has a bit of anime games overall...and the system is region free so you can get all of the obscure anime stuff that never released out of Japan with no problem.

I'd say

(for hanhelds); easily the Vita and/or Vita(ps)Tv - it gets more of the niche-ier & anime-ish types of game, plus it gives you access to PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 games as well, and

(for consoles)...probably a launch PS3 (it can play PS1, 2, and 3 games (discs)).

short answer

Sony is your friend here  8)

If you want new games then, as others have noted, that niche seems to have found its home on the Vita.  However, PS4 has some of the bigger name games (most are still in development), such as Persona, Disgaea, etc.  If you just mean in general, then it's a lot harder to pin anything down as the console of choice for games of that ilk.  PS3 is a pretty solid choice though.

Currently Playing: Rocket League (PS4), Fire Emblem Fates, The Witness (PS4), Puzzle & Dragons (Mobile)

What about 3DS? The vita is more niche?

I don't think you can go wrong with a TG-16/PC Engine CD either

For a current system, PSVita all the way.  Offbeat, obscure titles like Akiba's Trip, Danganronpa, One Piece Red and tons more are available on the Vita.  It really is the go-to system for anime style games.

As somebody else already pointed out, Sony is your friend here.  Depending on your tastes, just about anything Japanese will be found on a PlayStation system.  PS3 and PS4 are region free, so you can import titles for these consoles without fear that they won't work.  For PS1 and PS2 games, you would most likely need an import console.  There were games based on anime properties such as Space Battleship Yamato and Neon Genesis Evangelion on those systems.

In addition, if there is a chance that a anime style game got a localization (ie US release), chances are that it was on a PlayStation system.

After watching the latest Game Sack episode, it has to be, without a doubt, the PC-FX (not to be confused with the PC-Engine). NEC's next-gen console after TG-16/PC-Engine, that didn't fair as well.

In that review, there wasn't a single game that didn't have anime cutscenes. And these guys aren't like big anime fans, or at least haven't portrayed themselves that way. That's just how the games are on that console, apparently.

It was only released in Japan, though. And as a result, this is a pretty bad episode of Game Sack (which I really haven't seen bad episodes of this series before). They don't know what's going on in half the games they're playing. And they could only find an English translation for like 1 game online.

Yeah, that last episode was a bit dissapointing since they didn't know how most of the games worked because of lack of translations. I think it would have turned out a little better if they had done a bit more research on the games, and translations since there are quite a few of them out their on the internet, and that might have helped them understand the games a bit more.
But yeah, PC-FX flopped hard since all it had going for it was better decoding and quality of FMV compared to other consoles, but NEC forgot to upgrade all of the other parts from its 1992 build( it was originally going to be released then, but there was no interest in a new console, and developers still wanted to continue to use PC-Engine+ add ons), leaving it with a very niche library of games that didn't appeal to a large amount of people. NEC really made a bad move on their part with this.

PS2.  Has alot of JRPGs.

It was the Golden Age of JRPGs in Playstation 1 - Playstation 2 Era.  PS2 plays both = WIN/WIN situation.

I feel like when the first person here mentioned Sony you may as well have closed the thread. Pick a Sony system, any Sony sytem. You'll find anime.
